LCCFox96 Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 Which doesn't say a great deal. Am I serious when I say in view of that he'd be better deployed as a wing back or LB? Completely. How has he made the position his own when LW (and arguably LB) is his designated role? He certainly hasn't kept Albrighton out by performing better. The omission of the latter in the starting XI is another one of Nige's unfathomable decisions. I'm not saying drop him, I'm saying he'd be better utilised at LB/WB given his pace over Konchesky allowing for the addition of Albrighton who against Villa put in one of the best performances of any player all season. He was also far better than Schlupp away to Man U the brief chance he got. You clearly don't recall how well Jeff performed at LB season. Konchesky's lack of pace at Arsenal resulted in a goal - you could say then, coast us three valuable points and a huge boost in morale. I said he has made the LM/W position his own this season because he's started there consistently on merit. Why would we now drop him to left back when he's been one of our biggest attacking threats playing in an advanced left sided role. I agree its strange Albrighton hasn't started more often but he has not outperformed Schlupp this season who, since December at least, has been one of few shining lights in the team. You may have a point about him being best used with out current squad at LWB but that is due to us not having a left back able to play week in week out at this level. I do recall how good Schlupp was at left back on occasions but that doesn't mean I'd play him at there ahead of the left midfield role he has done very well in recently. Algeria play Mahrez down the left. This would allow for Albrighton on the right flank and if Pearson does revert to three CBs and a WB system are you suggesting that RDL and Schlupp wouldn't be an ideal pairing? Think about it. I agree Mahrez is good on the left but do you not think the likes of Feghouli and Brahimi, amongst the other wide attacking talent in their squad, have something to do with their use of Mahrez away from his favoured right wing role? How do you know RDL and Schlupp would be ideal pairings? They've never played their together before! Our team selection and performance have been questionable-poor for most of the season. My point being would moving Schlupp, one of the stronger performers, out of his best/in form position be a good idea at this moment - its a tough one to call. This is the Premiership and we are currently bottom - but it's ok because our second highest scorer has a three goal tally. Yup brilliant, not quite my reasoning for playing Schlupp in the side at the moment! From LM, where he has spent the majority of the season, 3 goals for a winger on a side bottom of the league is not bad. I don't see how Schlupp can be overly criticised for that - there should probably be a few other players between Ulloa and Schlupp on the list!
Brooksy Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 Twattenburg's the ref which means a few dodgy decisions in our favour.
yorkie1999 Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 So many line ups and formations on here. Poor nige's brain must be hurting
Storming Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 Is Huth now available as Stoke won't need him in the cup or has he played earlier .?
Guest Col city fan Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 Whatever the team, we need to win. We'll not get a better chance of doing well in this competition than this season. It's wide open.

Absolutely agree that Mahrez plays enforced LM and that is not his favoured side but it certainly wouldn't inhibit him and he would still more be more effective than Schlupp. That is my opinion and I realise it is a contentious one. But my main point is very simply that Jeff is a better LB than Konchesky and I believe that his pace is better deployed at the back. Yeah, Schlupp has played at the back alongside RDL - this season noteably against Southampton (although De Laet was substituted for Moore). We lost 2-0 but he looked natural simply because 'he made the role his own'. Why shouldn't he be able to play wing back opposite RDL with three CB's? -(my choice looking at the remaining league games ahead - Upson, Huth and Waz with the option of Liam Moore.) Sorry we disagree, I guess that is what a forum is all about, I wasn't being derogatory, but if you think that Jeffery Schlupp really has made the left wing role 'his own' then your expectations of this side's potential is quite limited and I'd invite you to delve into the archives to see what that really means. Like I say, Schlupp is a better option than Konchesky right now and the vacancy at LW can be easily covered and probably substantially more effectively.
st albans fox Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 Twattenburg's the ref which means a few dodgy decisions in our favour. First chance he's had to put the record straight since Man U. Expect a soft pen for them
Corky Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 Hamer De Laet Wasyl Upson Konchesky Mahrez James Cambiasso Schlupp Nugent Kramaric
Salieri Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 Defo Grewks team for me. Would like us to persist with the new formation and agree with the players selected, looks bang on. Villa won't break us down and we'll nick it with a bit of Krama time.
ScouseFox Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 yeah i wouldn't complain if we go 5 at the back again (hopefully one isn't wes but it will be). cambiasso - james mahrez - schlupp kramz as a front 5 is mmmmmmmmhmmmmmmmmmm whether it's 4 at the back with hammond defensive mid or it's 5 at the back, if those 5 are in front of them we win.
Brooksy Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 Hope he puts Hamer back in. Not too bothered if Schlupp or Albrighton play.
Scotch Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 Hamer Moore. Morgan. Wasyl DeLaet. Schlupp Cambiasso Hammond Mahrez Ulloa Kramaric
Phube Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 Schwamer De Laet Moore Was Upson Konch James Cambiasso Mahrez Ulloa Kramarić
Phube Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 Kramaric. Mahrez. Cambiaso. Ahhh the old 0-0-2-1 formation.
foxtillidrop Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 GK: Hamer RB: Simpson CB: Wes CB: Was CB: Upson LB: Schlup CM: Cambiasso CM: James AMR: Mahrez AML: Knockaert FWD: Kramaric Bring Nugent on for a CB after 65 minutes and go 4-4-2 depending on how things are going. Was great to see us pass the ball against Arsenal with the new formation which allows Cambiasso to flourish. All about the possession football.
