Promotion next season?

you don't, nobody does. but when people start questioning his championship record i think it's only fair to try and remember his championship record. which was basically sensational.

slag him off to high heaven about his obvious shortcomings in the premier league but trying to claim he won't be any good in the championship is absolutely ludicrous. like bordering on insane. in fact no, not even bordering on it. genuinely insane.

and your blind faith is equally ludicrous. No man (or choker) is bigger than the club, certainly not Pearson, who should have been put out to grass months ago.

If, even though the chances are very slim, we stay up this season then what happens to all the people that want Pearson gone? Do you go away or what?

In that unlikely event I'd support him staying.

I've supported him all the way until the Palace game. I felt a little bit more positive after the Arsenal game but after yesterday, I'd say get rid even if we stay up. He's had great success here, delivered our best season in 15  years and built a decent core but it seems like this season has affected him. He's second guessing himself, The Pearson of old would've come up with a tactical plan for the Villa game and lived or died by his choices. Instead he decided that because the 5-4-1 wasn't a disaster for the Arsenal game, he's going use it for the Villa game which it wasn't suited for.

I know we didn't concede until we changed to 4-4-2 (which hasn't brought much success either) but that was a poor decision, too. Villa were always going to set up with a 4-3-3 so to start with a 5-4-1 is ridiculously unambitious and to switch to 4-4-2 is suicide.

Failing to utilise his subs when things were going badly makes it seem as though he's either scared of making mistakes or worse, he's completely given up.

Compared to other managers of similar sized clubs, he's been around a lifetime. Maybe there's a reason only hugely successful clubs have managers that stick around for 5+ years. Maybe going through a season like this affects everything from your decision-making to your perception in the media (which influences what kind ofjobs you can go for) which can pretty much kill your career. My point; if managers of this calibre have a shelf life, Pearson is past his.

some of the Pearsonites on her remind me of beaten wives who can't leave a wife beater. He's finished, get over it.

You know a lot of beaten wives do you? Fair play for admitting that on here.

What an awful reply.

I wasn't being totally serious. Although it's rather embarrassing to be questioned for the quality of my posts from a man who earlier claimed last season's successes were little to do with the manager.

I honestly think if we go down the way we are we won't come back up with Pearson in charge. The best players we have will go so a rebuilding of the squad will need to take place. Also the confidence of some the players left will be shot to pieces I.e Drinkwater, Moore etc. Some of these players may well look at Pearson in a different light the aura around him probably will have gone in there eyes.

Agree with this ...there will be a lot of 'blame' going on and even if they are not saying it I am sure some of them will be thinking it ... If so many fans feel that certain players have had a poor season the players will too. The team spirit we had will not be there in abundance. Coming back from a devastating loss in a one off game at Watford is completely different to a season of hurt!

Why is it that Nigel Pearson will be the best man to lead a promotion push next season? There is not a shred of evidence to suggest he will (or won't in the interest of fairness). In my lifetime I have seen the loyalty approach fail more times then it has succeeded, I can only think of one person who has got a team relegated from the Premier League and promoted from the Championship in back to back seasons. Alan Curbishley at Charlton. Failed attempts include Mickey Adams at Leicester, Paul Jewell at Derby, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Cardiff, Felix Magath at Fulham. Can anybody add to these lists or provide any evidence to support this theory that doesn't involve dwelling on the past?

He's got far more experience at that level than any of those managers and has never finished outside the top 6 with us. Get rid and I guarantee any of the current top 10 who change their manager will have him as number one on their list. Why? Because he's got a proven track record of success.

I TOTALLY accept it's gone massively wrong this season, so would Pearson and I totally agree that he's made some bad decisions on tactics but we all knew this season would be a slog. If, come October, it hasn't turned round and we're not in the top 6 again, I'll be happy to say I was wrong and will say his time is up but the challenge is now there to sort this pile of shit out and take us back up again. Getting rid is so so easy but there's no guarantee that any of the names mentioned would do a better job.

Hindsight is of course a wonderful thing.

How many on here were saying last May that we would struggle so badly? Not many I guess.

Imagine for a moment you're the manager of a team whose just got promoted outplaying pretty much any side who turned up to play against you. You ammased the club's most ever number of points in a season. You've got a squad of players who look like they can make the step up to the next level and who appear to want to play for you. Would you stick by them or would you tear it all up and bring in ten new players?

Pearson has made mistakes but ultimately it looks as if the squad which got us promoted basically isn't as good as we all thought it was.Management included. Players expected to step up just haven't been able to do so.

There were perhaps some warning signs (3 cup matches vs premier league opposition) but it is easy to say this now.

The summer wasn't used properly for recruitment. What reasons there are for this we shall probably never know but it is clear to see now that better players were required.

Relegation looks pretty much nailed on and it won't be easy to get back up. Even with parachute payments finances will be tight. Also the fundamental question out there really lies around the type of players required to get out of the championship  who do not look like those required to stay and flourish in the Premier league.

If Pearson gets to stay if we go down he should consider himself one lucky man. How long term are the plans of the owners? If they see this season as a sort of weird period of club development he may well be here. If they want short term fixes then he wont.

I really don't see many inspriring alternatives out there. There are some interesting young candidates but they suffer from exactly what people on here are bemoaning; a lack of premier experience.

Changing the manager may be a case of be careful what you wish for just like promotion to the premier league has so far been.

Hear this quite a bit.

Can I ask were you expecting us to be this bad?

I expected us to range from bottom at the worst to about 8th at best. As frustrating as our position is, it doesn't really surprise me at all.

Is that because they weren't sold the club very well or down to finances? or did they not fancy playing for a manager that only plays his mates??? We just don't know the answer to that.

(but I bet we have different theories!!).

Who knows, didn't hear you moaning about selection then though

I knew it would be difficult this season but I expected him to sign premier quality, or young and very promising, players all across the back 4, a cdm, cam, winger and 2 strikers.

Kept being told that bringing in that number of players would upset the squad.

Maybe he wanted to but couldn't? Was he even making the signings?

Hamer and Albrighton were signed in the summer and it looks quite clear Nige probably didn't want either of them.

And if he doesn't improve things change him again. And again. Until you get a manager that does make a difference and does show improvement.

So how long you going to give the next bloke?

Still not sure about this, is Pearson really the type of manager/man who would allow someone else to pick his team?

If it is the case then what kind of manager/man refuses to play Hamer and Albrighton who seem to offer more than those keeping them out the team?

My list of players was in reply to this idea that we were all generally happy with the squad that started the season.

Who said someone else was picking the team?

Although despite the calls for Albrighton most on here seem happy with Mahrez and Schulpp as our wingers.

What makes you say he doesn't want to play Hamer or Albrighton?

Hamer was signed as a reserve GK, Kasper got injured, he started and because Kasper's injury is long term we brought in a new temporary starter. Hamer is in the position he was signed to play.

Albrighton, I love him, but he's competing with possibly our most mercurial player. Should we really drop Mahrez to play Albrighton? I'd like to find a way to play them both as albrighton knows how to cross but that would mean playing Mahrez "out of position" Personally I'd like to see Mahrez in the slot but maybe they've tried that in training and it hasn't worked. Alternatively drop Camby and put Mahrez in his place with albrighton out wide.

He certainly isn't refusing to play them and neither are clearly an upgrade on what we have in their positions.

All the good players will leave, the fringe players will know that if we're promoted they'll be gone, so they have no incentive to succeed, we have a losing habit. It doesn't seem insane to me to think we'll struggle next season without some change.

why would we lose all the good players, we wont be in a financial situation where we need to sell? the only one who is good enough to sell for money is mahrez, and on his last outing showed his inconsistency can make him useless!

Kramaric is obviously on a different level so it would be interesting to see what happens to him.
