Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 23 February 2015 Posted 23 February 2015 3 clean sheets in 8 games for Hamer, that's an excellent return regardless who the games were against. Really can't see why he's not starting, besides Pearson knowing Schwarzer more on a personal level.

Yes thats Schwarzers not done a lot wrong apart from his mistake against Villa he has looked reasonably solid cant understand all this clambering for him to be out of the team
Finn Claw II Posted 23 February 2015 Posted 23 February 2015 Hamer would be my number 1 (even if/when Kasper is fit). Schawarzer has been in the sticks against Man Utd, Arsenal, Everton and Palace - there are some pretty attacking sides there.

Well the 8 games that Hamer has been in goal see us with a goal a game conceded. Only Chelsea, Mans City and United and Southampton have a better average than that. I'm not for a moment suggesting he'd have kept to that if he'd played more regularly, but I would merely suggest this has been a very strange decision to stand him down in favour of MS
cc_star Posted 23 February 2015 Posted 23 February 2015 Yes thats Schwarzers not done a lot wrong apart from his mistake against Villa he has looked reasonably solid cant understand all this clambering for him to be out of the team In addition to that Villa shambles, he palmed saves to opposing forwards in both the Arsenal & Utd game resulting in key goals He was directly responsible for 3 decisive goals against us in 4 appearances, plus the slow to react Vs Everton which in itself may not be criticised but on the back of other such performances is worrisome to say the least No surprise Hamer has best record, would like to see him behind the (fractionally) more assured back 5 as opposed to the leaky back 4

Sigh... look I know it's not just you who keeps going on about this but lets look back at at least two of those (can't remember the third without checking). Hull away and Stoke away, those clean sheets were more to do with them being utterly woeful in front of goal than anything else. Especially Hull away where they were hitting posts and skying skies left right and centre. Lets not make out it's his skill that's somehow kept teams at bay, woeful finishing does not a good keeper make. The guy did what was asked of him, I've not got much to critisise him for other than his appalling distribution so fair play to him. But come on, lets not over egg the pudding and make him out to have been anything other than competent.

If we're going down that route then, for balance, you need to stick another 4 goals on Schwarzer for Lukaku's finishing yesterday
Babylon Posted 23 February 2015 Posted 23 February 2015 If we're going down that route then, for balance, you need to stick another 4 goals on Schwarzer for Lukaku's finishing yesterday Eh... no the comparison would be like me giving credit to him for keeping the score down to 2 when really he had begger all to do with it.
Guest Kopfkino Posted 23 February 2015 Posted 23 February 2015 Penalties don't count so take two goals off for Hamer
westernpark Posted 23 February 2015 Posted 23 February 2015 Isn't Ben Hamer very good friends with Matt Mills? Besides Schwarzer is a better keeper, but if you're playing people on form, Hamer has to start.
Danno Posted 23 February 2015 Posted 23 February 2015 I love how Ben Hamer has become Manuel Neuer after a couple of mistakes from Schwarzer. His kicking is an embarrassment plus he has made plenty of mistakes himself for both Spurs goals and against Man City.
MrSpaM Posted 23 February 2015 Posted 23 February 2015 Everybody has completely forgetting how bad Hamers distribution was before he was dropped then? Keeping clean sheets is good and all, but when your kicking is useless you cause massive problems for the rest of the team. Hamer is a decent keeper, but let's not pretend he wasn't making mistakes game after game.

Could argue that we were playing a more attacking style at the start of the season, and Hamer's run was around the same time we tried to keep things tight and why he was involved in a lot of low scoring games. Its not just the keepers responsibility to keep the ball out of the net, it is also dependent on defenders and midfielders, and so those stats may not be truly correlated with which keepers are the best. Anyway regardless of any stats, I would take Kasper as our number one, because on the whole, he is our best keeper

I know both are important to fans, but surely one is more important i.e. clean sheets cos you're guaranteed at least a point.

filbertway Posted 23 February 2015 Posted 23 February 2015 Does anyone else get annoyed by the fact he takes about 2 minutes to take a goal kick? Was impressed with his quick kick to Vardy later on in the game, 95% of the time though it's like he's trying to waste time. If we're winning and it's the last 5-10 min then fair enough.

From what i saw yesterday the distribution wouldn't make no odds, as Schwarzer kicked it straight, straight to the Everton defence every time they out jumped kramaric

His kicking is an embarrassment plus he has made plenty of mistakes himself for both Spurs goals and against Man City. This is literally the last thing you look for in a goalkeeper and, quite frankly, the only thing embarrassing is people using this as something to find faults in his game. Ben is better than Schwarzer at shot stopping, cross collection and he's better at controlling his area. I can't work out why he's been dropped, we look much more solid with him in the team. From what i saw yesterday the distribution wouldn't make no odds, as Schwarzer kicked it straight, straight to the Everton defence every time they out jumped kramaric Schwarzer kicked it into touch twice. It's a pathetic argument.

This, but even worse if you was Hamer and you wait for your chance and arguably the team produces its best results of the season - you are dropped for an aging 42 year old that's played 4 games in 2 years that then makes clangers

But Everton were woeful in front of goal yesterday but still managed to get two past Schwartzer... Admittedly he had no chance with Upson's pin-point header mind. Hamer wins this hands-down for me just because he commands his box. Plus he hasn't yet comically fallen over and scored an own goal with his arse like Swatzer did. You call Hamer's distribution 'appalling' but don't mention Schwartzer's gaff at all!

I think Conrad Logan has also become Manuel Neuer after a couple of mistakes from Schwarzer. No idea how you can blame Hamer for Man City's goal. Seriously though, Schwarzer is solid enough... But given the fact that we're one of the weaker teams in the league we need a keeper who can save a few shots now and again.
