Be careful of trams too, they seem to come out of nowhere. They're silent assassins. There's a Heineken factory there that does tours I believe, it's quite close to the centre.

I found that 90% of people spoke English too and they're very friendly. If you here people whistling at night near you just ignore it and carry on walking.

My office is there, so I go quite frequently. I've not smoked, but I've had a few brownies :)

It's a great city, definitely check out the red light area, it is interesting. Take a boat and do the canals. I've not been overly impressed with the food or the pubs, I think the ones downtown are probably too geared up for tourists, and Dutch food is sh!te generally.

I second that. Dutch food is horrendous.

Well, my computer is in the laundry room at my house in Lesotho. But the head office for the company is in Amsterdam!

re the food, as I posted above the Indonesian stuff is amazing. Get a reiss tafel (sp?). There are some good places round the Leidersplein.

Spent a day there after a four day bender in Germany. Bad move.

Dutch food is just chips with mayo or curry sauce isn't it?

At work, they often bring out pickled herring with raw onion. Fortunately, it is usually accompanied by some beers.

They also seem to be big fans of rolling things up in to balls, covering in breadcrumbs and deep frying. Tasty, but not particularly interesting.

Don't forget potato croquette in a bun... with mayo. I suppose you'll eat any old shit when stoned  lol

I just want chicken and steak. Surely Amsterdam has a few half decent steak houses?

Plenty of standard stuff around, enough tourist places near the main square.

Snack wise they have loads of noodle on the go places which I loved, cheap and nice tasting.

Been there twice now and absolutely love the place - went most recently in February with my girlfriend and a few mates, had an awesome time. Check out the Heineken Brewery Tour, it's really interesting and not all just about the brewing and stuff. Anne Frank's house is worth a visit, but literally don't bother if you're going at the weekend. I went on a Thursday a couple of years ago and the place was more or less empty - on Saturday the queues were going down the street.

The best part for me was just walking round the place, finding interesting little bars and cafes, having some beer and a bit of a smoke. It's a really, really beautiful city.

The food is bollocks though, I've literally never had a meal there that wasn't overpriced and a bit grim.

Depends on how much you want and the strain. A gram (2 or 3 joints worth) on average is between 8 and 20 euros.

If anyone has plans on drug tourism I'd strongly recommend going to Rotterdam or The Hague instead where it's much more reasonably priced.  I don't think I've seen prices above 16€ there.

Ah, I see the problem here. You ended up in Scotland, not Holland

Heineken museum is decent.

I would not bother with the main stream coffee shops like the bulldog, check out places like the green house effect and amnesia.

Brass house is a €50 for 30 minute gig with a prossie but you can pay more if you want something that looks like a Czech porn star.

Food check out pancake corner....yum.

The sex shows are a bit of a laugh too. I paid 25 euros and saw four shows - one where some woman got legitimately nailed on stage too. Never been less turned on in my life, but it was certainly an... experience.

There seemed to a s***load of Argentinian steak houses knocking about when I went

I made the mistake of ordering a 'fillet of steak' when I went, note the 'of'. It arrived and it was just a few thin slices of shit stacked on top of one another. I was there for 4 nights and didn't manage to find one decent meal.

When on a stag weekend, we all went to Moulin Rouge for a sex show.  I think The Banana Bar is more well known where they do magic with bananas & make them disappear.

It was a selection of sex shows, about half a dozen sex acts on a constant loop.  If you you stay long enough, you get to see exactly the same acts over & over.  It is a bit bizarre & have been more aroused doing the washing up.

To this day, my mate is convinced he caught herpes that night.  One of the acts wanted a volunteer on stage.  With it being his stag do, he was thrown up on stage.  It was a big black woman, a Rusty Lee lookalike in a see through nighty.  He was told to lay on his back.  She then produced a 10" gold plated dildo & put it in his mouth..........pulled up her nighty & squatted down on the dildo.  He said that his lips touched hers.  One of the most disgusting things I've ever seen but none of us could breathe laughing.

I caught scabies the same weekend.  I would like to say that whilst I visited the Red Light District I never participated, but try convincing people of that after a weekend in Amsterdam.  The girl at the pharmacy didn't look too impressed either when I went in to pick up my crabs cream

Amsterdam is a great place to visit, I can't personally spend more than a couple of nights there nowadays though. Once you've been to all the museums theres not really much else to do apart from smoke and drink, both of which are pretty expensive. I would recommend going it you havnt been before mind, people are really friendly there on the most part, and it's got a cracking night life. Just don't go there expecting it to be cheap, especially the beer lol

Best thing to do is just go Wok2Walk every night if your not fussy about sitting down and eating, 5 euros for a massive box of chinese.

I've found the places where you sit down and eat with a menu and everything to be generally poor quality and overpriced, just stick to the takeaways

Trust me, they are all absolute garbage

How much is weed over there ?

The high grade stuff is pretty much priced the same as it is here, aka massivly overpriced. Only seems to have gone that way over the past few years though, first time I went about 8 years ago it was loads cheaper, practically half the price of what it is now.

Don't go to Amsterdam expecting to get cheap weed, it really doesnt work that way at all, a gram can cost you anywhere inbetween 12-20 euros depending on the strengh you get. I dont tend to smoke that much nowadays, but some of my mates easily got through 30-40 euros worth in a day.
