LJS Posted 15 March 2015 Posted 15 March 2015 If we were comfortably mid table, people would laugh and roll their eyes and it would add to the legend of Nige as a hard man. We'd probably mention that he also likes to take on wild dogs, too. Because we are rock bottom and almost certainly going down, it's a sackable offence. The reason Mourinho gets away with being a fud is that, by and large, he manages successful teams. It's as simple as that. Of course, but the context matters. Pearson has been in the game long enough to know that. He's helping people to build a narrative. He might not care about what people think of him persoanlly but he is the public figurehead of the club and he should definitely care what people think about Leicester City.

I was going to mention something similar to this but then stopped myself as on the flip side of the coin, if we were comfortably mid table he wouldn't have got himself so annoyed and worked up, he's crack-ed/ing under the pressure. I myself did find it quite funny, i'm not gonna slag him off for what he did, I will however slag him off for the job he's doing.
MC Prussian Posted 15 March 2015 Posted 15 March 2015 That's the Pro Pearson 'get out of jail card' though surely? Don't worry about this season, it was always going to be difficult etc etc..because Nigel will naturally take us straight back up again and we will be bigger and better. I even heard this last night in the pub...from one of my own mates ...who said that Nigel would have 'learnt' how to build a side capable of challenging in the top flight when we come straight back up. Until I pointed out that actually, rather than him learning, we now look a worse side than we did at the start of this season. This thing about bouncing straight back up is ridiculous and is trawled out as a catch all by those loyal to Sir Nigel. No-one knows how we'd do next season. If we go down, the squad will change I suspect, and as you say, the Championship is anything but a simple division to get out of. You could argue the Premier League is equally tough to remain in, let alone establishing yourself in it for a longer period of time. The squad will be changing no matter what division we'll be playing in next season, as about half of our players' contracts are running out.
v6rat Posted 15 March 2015 Posted 15 March 2015 Everybody in life reaches their maximum potential in terms of ability and powers to earn money at a certain level, usually as a result of their education, work ethic, people skills etc etc. Pearson has proved this year that as a manager of a promotion winning team from the Championship to the Premiership that he has reached his maximum potential. At this point in time, Pearson is a good Championship manager and nothing else.
the-blue-wildabeast Posted 15 March 2015 Posted 15 March 2015 I still want Pearson here. I like him a lot and believe we're not that far off becoming a success in the premier league we just need to get a couple of more concentrated players. I would definitely give him the first 10 games of next season whatever league we are in, which I still have some faith will be this one. Unbelievable Jeff! We seem to have a second tier mentality so no surprise thats what we achieved.
nettle Posted 15 March 2015 Posted 15 March 2015 The biggest problem at the moment is that there is no passion with the manager, players etc they are going through the motions. The way the players played yesterday they know we are going down. Pearson cannot motivate them anymore that's why he needs to go. To be honest I'm surprised the fans haven't turned already because years gone by the fans would have. Someone mentioned the Pleat years in another post I think most fans wanted him out by the end of his tenure, it was poisonous being in the crowd and fans let the board and Pleat know in no uncertain terms. Fans just seem different now.
st albans fox Posted 15 March 2015 Posted 15 March 2015 Stoke, palace and hull. Three winnable home games. you could argue that stoke was made over difficult by our lack of midfield personnel available. I would say that it's up to the management to come up with a formula to cope with that. so three huge games in the context of this season and ................ No goals scored. There really are no excuses that can be trotted out. The other sides at the bottom are making their home form count. and please let's not have a retort which speaks of luck.

Yes it is a tough division to remain in, but after 10 years of toil to get back in the Prem we have made a complete pigs ear of it, we have been a shambles and blown a massive opportunity.

You can throw Sunderland in there for good measure aswell.

I know we haven't been playing well for most part, been too cautious/negative/defensive, and we've had bad luck coming into play as well - at both ends of the pitch. All I'm saying is that comments like yours would be much more justified comes the end of the season - if we were still performing as badly as this on a regular basis up until then. Right now, there's still plenty of points to play for - and, as worn out as it may sound to some, who says we can't bounce straight back in case of relegation? And would relegation really spell the end of the world?
LJS Posted 15 March 2015 Posted 15 March 2015 Historically most promoted clubs stay up. Clubs who win promotion with the points total we managed don't normally even go close to relegation. I know people will use this season's likelihood of the three promoted sides going down as evidence for just how tough staying in this league is. But that hasn't happened since 1998. It's rare. Of course, the top flight is a much better league than the second tier. But the gulf isn't so huge that proper preparation couldn't have seen us survive comfortably. If Norwich, Swansea, Hull and Palace can do it there is absolutely no reason that we shouldn't have been capable beyond simple poor management. We were promoted early enough to spend time getting this right. We've failed miserably and the season has been a huge waste of a great opportunity.
artursteppe Posted 15 March 2015 Posted 15 March 2015 I can't believe that Col and me seem to be allies. I have been 'banned' from posting on here a few times because I'd criticised Pearson. I had a real good rant from start to finish during the game yesterday and for another twenty minutes walking away from the ground. Hull were absolutely rubbish and our players seemed to be full of trepidation. It should have been 'dip your bread' time. We should have thrashed them, but we were too frightened to have a go. Pearson is actually spineless, yes he has always tried to appear strong, an appearance of strength based on arrogance, but he is a powder puff. He has never prepared any team to thoroughly outplay and thrash weaker opposition. He's 'yeller'. Division one, Championship or Premiership, we have rarely beaten any of the worst teams in our league. This is not a new thing this season. To survive in the Prem, you have to beat the crap teams. Yes we do well against the best sides, that to be fair is why we finished top last season, but every year, year after year we underperform against rubbish. Best chance of promotion is to beat your major competitors, best chance of survival is to beat your major competitors. It ain't rocket science. Pearson cannot beat the crap. He has never been able to do it and he never will. He is too much of a 'pussy'. Anyone can appear to be strong in situations where 'you can't lose' whtaever the result against teams like Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, but it takes a man with 'balls' to hammer the rubbish. I don't like him, but Sherwoods crap Villa side were 4-0 up away at crap Sunderland yesterday by half time !!!!!!!!!!!!! Our first shot took 35 minutes yesterday, that is if the Kramaric cross which went just over the bar after 25 minutes was actually a cross. Point made anyway I think. Hull finished with 10 shots to our 8. Says it all I think! If we had beaten a crap Hull yesterday, and beaten Burnley at home and a crap Villa away, we would not be in the bottom three now. Also take into account lack lustre performances against Palace away when they were really crap, Newcastle away when they were THE worst team in the league, WBA at home when they were crap, Sunderland at home who are really crap, QPR away who we should always beat and people have actually been defending Pearson this season................ Bizarre! Oh but we did beat Hull and Villa 1-0 wasn't it? WOW! Enough, I could go on and on and on.....................................................
lavrentis Posted 15 March 2015 Posted 15 March 2015 It's all a learning process, Pearson has won us 2 titles, if we go down then he'll bring us straight back up with a years premier league experience which will not count against him. PEARSON IN

We can go round in circles because your last couple of sentences takes me back to my earlier post regarding how tough the Championship is and how matter of fact some people are about us bouncing straight back up (should we be relegated) it's all ifs buts or maybes at the moment though. No it's not the end of the world of course should we be relegated but after 10 years of struggle to finally get into the Prem it's going to be a sad sad day when we have the dreaded R next to our name, and it looks likely we will be going down with a whimper. I just hope it doesn't take us 10 years for our next opportunity.

v6rat Posted 15 March 2015 Posted 15 March 2015 Leicester manager Nigel Pearson said: "We've got 10 games left, six at home and we probably need to win five. Pity he didn't think this before the Hull match when we had 7 home games left.
Bettsj2 Posted 15 March 2015 Posted 15 March 2015 It's all a learning process, Pearson has won us 2 titles, if we go down then he'll bring us straight back up with a years premier league experience which will not count against him. PEARSON IN The only thing we should have learned is that Pearson cant handle pressure. He's shown it before in the Championship during a previous disastrous run and he's showing it now. Unless we go 15 unbeaten or whatever it was he's just a pool of salty jizz. He needs to go and he needs to go now. Anyone who thinks any differently knows nothing about football.
st albans fox Posted 15 March 2015 Posted 15 March 2015 I think this is going to get more and more polarised until he is sacked. The pros are not for turning and the antis are gaining support each time we play. I suppose when there is no one left inbetween, a decision will be made. might take a while though, judging by the tone of the differing posts. I don't feel no goals against Sunderland and WBA at home was so terrible btw. The context was different to stoke, palace and hull. a surprise win at the lane could turn the tide? As it happens, it's been a fairly good place for us to go to over the years. at least it's a fixture where five at the back is going to look realistic (that will be five defenders against Kane btw) although I hope he realises we need to go three v three in the middle. (Which he won't).
Guest MattP Posted 15 March 2015 Posted 15 March 2015 Everyone is culpable for this season, Pearson hasn't got it right and some of the players have been a disgrace. The persistence with Morgan and Schulpp is indefensible. As was the negativity yesterday in a game we had to win. For the first time though listening to Pearson I don't think he's too bothered if he gets the sack.
Stadt Posted 15 March 2015 Posted 15 March 2015 He's clearly not good enough for the premiership but he's an excellent championship manager, he's more likely than some random Spaniard or Neil Warnock to get us up again.
demon_dog Posted 15 March 2015 Posted 15 March 2015 We are clearly sinking back down to the championship. Pearson and the players all seem resigned to that fact, yesterday's performance clearly showed that. Davie G. Time to bring out the sinking boat with Pearson and Top! Sod it why is everyone so quiet. PEARSON OUT.
Walkerfox Posted 15 March 2015 Posted 15 March 2015 Anyone think it was interesting that Martin O'neill was the owners' guest of honour yesterday? Heard it on radio Leicester before the game.
