An Away Move

How many new fans have we attracted this season? And how much is it worth?

Recommended Posts

According to my estimates, the official LCFC Facebook page has attracted about a million more fans in the space of a year and a half.

Anyone who can back this up?

I think even at the start of last season, we were at something like 200'000 to 300'000 likes if I'm not mistaken. We're now at 1.6 million followers.

There's software out there that tracks this. But looking here alone (https://www.facebook.com/lcfc/likes), ~300k in the past week,

Always been curious, is there anyone on this forum that 'chose' Leicester?

ie not born in Leics or family connections.  Not Algerian Mahrez supporters and not fans picked up on the back of this year's success.

Just wondered.

All the armchair glory supporting Manchester United fans that have never even been to Manchester let alone a match that are dotted all around the towns and villages of our beloved Leicester will have a harder time convincing their children to follow them in their shallow pursuit of fan victory. This alone means thousands of new fans in the coming generation!!

I chose Leicester about 5-6 games into the season last year. Spent about 5 months wondering why I was choosing to subject myself to such torture for a team I had no connection to.  ;) Quite happy with my decision.

I think those that are saying concentrate on the 7-8 year olds in Leicestershire and the surrounding counties could be missing the bigger point. The Premier League on television reaches into literally billions of homes. If Leicester can consolidate after this season that translates into a lot of wonga in terms of merchandise and internet content which the club can care a fee for. A Leicester subscription channel on satellite could also be a goer if we continue to expand globally. Let's keep it local AND go capitalise on our new global popularity. The more the merrier I say!

I think people are more open now to other teams. A few years back with no World Wide coverage only Man Utd Liverpool Forest (yuk) were available. Now supporters of football have a wider choice. Years ago in the 70's and 80's although City was my first club I also admired Liverpool and man Utd. They were good sides for neutrals.Who could not admire Best Charton etc?  In the 60's Spurs had a good team but now I am not so bothered about those teams. It is more to do with the multi thousand cost of their teams and less home grown players. The paypacket comes above the club. I became more a fan of City during Weller, Worthington Birchy etc. Not the best team as in title winning contenders but they enjoyed the game.

So when oversea fans choose teams they look at a few and pick the one they see as most exciting for them. The usual teams are just one of many now.

I know someone who took his kid up to the etihad on saturday, I assumed to see leicester but no his kid is a Man city fan (you wouldnt have seen any man city fans in leicestershire 15 years ago), pretty sad really, maybe after the game he changed his allegiance to his better local side.

I'm something of a new fan and so far the only people benefiting are those offering those free pornridden video streams from the Leicester games. I'm too old for shirts. But I am spreading the word in Sweden of leicesters awesomeness. Who knows, maybe I'll visit at some point too. Likely along with the missus which means there will be spending of money involved.

Glory grabbers all over the county must be spending a lot of time thinking about how stupid it is that they follow a club who they have no connection to, when their local club is currently the best in the UK.

I'm sure this season must be slowly converting the glory supporters of Leicestershire. It might not last, but there'll still be plenty that become Leicester fans for life.

There's got to be a lot of people who'd never even given any thought to why they're fans of clubs from miles away and not the one in their hometown. They might wonder how it feels to see your own club climb from the depths of the 3rd tier to the top of the PL in just a few years. They might realise that they'll never experience anything like we are right now, even if 'their' club wins the Champions League.

I'm sure this season is teaching a lot of people a lesson that they might learn from.

I still don't see any Man City fans in Leicester.

Chelsea got a decade on Man City in terms of growth so maybe in the coming years you will see Man City shirts more regularly in our neck of the woods.

I remember Chelsea in the 90's. It was followed by few in England and the world. The change came when Ruud Gullit brought the likes of Vialli and an under appreciated Zola from Italy, a country he spent most of his professional life playing. It didn't make Chelsea a champion team, far from it, but it made it a fun team to watch. Later with the addition of new managers and great players, it became a phenom. It now rivals Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal in world popularity. And what's wrong with little Leicester doing the same thing? Not a goddam thing! Welcome your new fans, some will leave but many will stay.

When I was over there a couple of years back, the only guy I met who had even heard of Leicester was an IK Sirius fan who'd been to the preseason friendly against them in the Sven days.

Yep, i'm an auzzie from Sydney, have been fox fan since the 70's. Never seen them live. Remember as a kid watch Weller, shilton, worthington ...etc

Gone through the ups and downs with them, from a distance.

Always copped $h1T from other supporters.... not any more. My turn to return serve.

I do not mind anyone joining our fold.

I also love fans from other clubs wanting us to win as it gives hope.

But personally anyone that signs up now as we are top.

Fine but if ur not here for life fvcm off we do not need your support or sympathy.

If your not here long term please fvck off.h

sorry but who the hell are you ,we are not here for your eyes, as algerianfox reply you, and i agree

once Mahrez leaves the club we won t be fans anymore , leiceter is what it is just because of this magical MAHREZ

without him leiceter would be a very boring team , look the goal against liverpool the guy made n assist of 40 yards juslt like american football ,

now if mhrez was argentinian or brazilian all eyes would be on him, you do not give enough credit to the guy,

he is above any player in the pl without him vardy kante are just very ordinary players look where they come from kante was in caen

and verdy was in the 5 th division , there is only two players as mahrez today ,messi and neymar ,and look how many fans they have

Mahrez would be equaly as popular as them but the only thing he is algerian ,this is why, you do not give enough credit to the guy ,leiceter should thank him to make every player of leiceter so valuable today, as maradona in Napoli ,even giordano the forward of napoli in the time of maradona was the best stricker and the hole napoli was a  great team, so if we are fans it is just because leiceter has a magical and a statospheric player that comes one in a life time at leiceter,

now they are many fans thanks to Mahrez ,actually they are 40 millions algerians fans of leiceter city but not for so long just wait the move for our gem ,that for me is making leiceter loved by every soccer fan ,that is missing this kind of fooball , since all the magic players are gone ,ronaldinho ,maradona platini zidane , now we have 4

messi

mahrez,

neymar

ronaldo

this beautifull football played by these players is in extinction, and maybe in 10 years no one would care about this game anymore since it would be boring as hell .....

so enjoy the moment and share these magical moments with all football fans that love a game called football ,and no matter it is called leiceter ,barcelona or Milan

enjoy!!!

I am not here for life and i will stop watching leicester as soon as Mahrez leave the club.

I think it's so called fan like you that kept this club down for so long.

You sound like a gang member not a football club fan.

To be fair to Sylo, you are not really a Leicester fan, you just watch someone in our club that chose to play for your country through heritage (and possibly never thought he could play for france).

You will also, as you have said your self, fvck off at some point if Mahrez leaves.

being top is great for attracting new fans, as others have said the future of the club is the young guys in the local areas, I really hate seeing youngstars in and around leicester wearing manure/lpool/arsehole tops, I have never understood why people don't support their home town club.

The really scary thing is though, I am currently spending a lot of time at cov hospital and when I walk around, I hear a lot of talk from obvious cov hood rats about leicester, all of it pretty complimentary.

Pass the crack pipe back dude!

Why don't you post on a Mahrez forum instead of the Foxes talk forum, do you think anyone cares that 40 million Algerians are watching illegal streams, jizzing over Mahrez?

Mentioning Mahrez in the same breath as Messi et al is a little short sighted and childish, putting down other players by saying we are a one man team is down right inflammatory.

We appreciate that a lot of people are now "supporting" us, but if you are not a lifer that will stay through the tough times then really I think your "support" is totally plastic and no real member of the blue army will even realise you have gone, when you do
