DanTheFox07 Posted 19 September 2009 Posted 19 September 2009 I can remember Fryatt having a lot of doubters and most people saying he would struggle in the championship, After today`s result I believe if i have my facts right he is now joint top goalscorer in the league with 7 goals. Annoys me the amount of people that have been quick to jump on this guy`s back in the past and say he isn`t good enough, no doubt all the doubters have changed there tune now. I did explain to many people that Makes a difference that he has decent players around him to give him the quality ball`s needed to score, where when we have been in the championship previously this hasn`t been the case. also another point id like to make, Someone on here mentioned about if fryatt get`s injured then we would struggle, considering we have been struggling to score goals regularly I don`t think pearson should discount Campbell. I for one don`t like Campbell for the attitude he has shown the club and his unwillingness to drop his wage demands to play regular football elsewhere, however I think given the amount of money were paying this guy if fryatt gets injured then I think we have to look at using him.
SystonFox Posted 19 September 2009 Posted 19 September 2009 havent watch his goals from today but ive always enjoyed Fryatt playing for us, scored 50+ goals for us. had a bad season last time we were in the champ but is making up for it now! long may his legacy continue.
Matt Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 I'll hold my hands up, I had my doubts about him, Like always whenever I doubt a player or feel a player isn't good enough i'm more than happy for them to prove me wrong, and if they do i'll admit it. Well done to Fryatt, I just hope he keeps it up and continues to prove me wrong, He was shocking on Tuesday night but i'll let him off the odd game That is when other strikers and other players need to chip in with goals though - I think Pearson should have acted earlier with a Waghorn for Fryatt sub alot earlier on Tuesday.
Daveaway Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 I was another who also thought that he could not cut the mustard in the championship. But I will hold my hands up. Nig had the faith in him and it is showing off. Glad in a way that we did not get for Cox from Swindon how many goals and to that end how many start has he had for West Brom. Onwards and upwards, keep the good work up City & Matty Fryatt.
eaststandtom Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 thing is fryatt has always had a good touch and for a player who is not lightning he can cover a lot of ground running with the ball thanks to his technique and ability. its that old chaestnut of having confidence. he clearly was running on empty season before last as i am sure everyone was. out in the cold under allen, megson was playing him out of position and holloway couldnt decide what team to play ever. its was all condusive to him having a poor season still, i think he should have done better. however, an excellent season last year and he is still full of goals and confidence so far. i am sure he will have some bad patches this season. we just need to stay patient with him and not say 'i told you so'. for me, watching the city since 1988 this is the 1st time i have seen a player score more than 20 goals in a season and that happened only once under dickov
crazylegs1984 Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 Nonsense or some truth? [/quote ] bolox hopefully that lad has blue blood running through his veins and his heart beats to the tune of the post horn gallop!
jonthefox Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 the frustrating thing with fryatt is , yes he`s a great striker but with the amount he misses , he could be brilliant. still, we should be happy we have a player of his calibre at the club. he`s a legend in the making dont ya know.
Fox92 Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 Nonsense or some truth? Nonsense, can't see Sunderland wanting another striker sureley. Bruce has paid £5million for Campbell was it? And £10million for Bent was it? Why another striker?
MikeyT Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 Nonsense or some truth? Just can't imagine this would be true...it's one thing going up against defences in this league, but i can't see him getting by defences like Chelsea, Man United, Liverpool, Aresanl and probably 90% of Premiership defences. I love Fryatt and think he's doing a great job and would hate to see him leave...but i have serious doubts whether he could cut it in the Premiership. If he ever makes it there with us then i hope to eat my words.
jimmer Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 Nonsense, can't see Sunderland wanting another striker sureley. Bruce has paid £5million for Campbell was it? And £10million for Bent was it? Why another striker? Exactly my thoughts, was just suprised to see an article about him in this way. I really think Fryatt is happy here, would have to be an insanely lucrative deal to lure him away, having said that he does seem the loyal type
Legend_in_blue Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 He will always take the easy finish. He'll get plenty of those in the championship and like everyone says, confidence is high so you'd expect him to take them. But... It's those one-off 2 second chances, the ones where a bit of class is needed, sort of one touch, in, where he flounders. If he could take those, he'd be premiership quality.
Corky Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 He still tends to hold on to the ball too long, and often shoots instead of looking for a pass, but it was considered that he wouldn't score at this level, and he certainly has shown he can so far this season, so he's doing pretty well at the moment.

Still quite young though isn't he so got time to work on the technical side but he is scoring goals and you cannot ask for much more at the moment from a striker! From our point of view somebody like Helguson is not a complete forward but finds the net which makes him a fans favourite.
dogadug Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 If it weren't for Matty, we'd be near the bttom. He's our only real goalscorer, so lets get behind him

Not sure I totally agree with that, Fryatt does miss some pretty simple chances (one in the pboro game). However every striker at this level misses chances and his goals are well outweighing his misses atm, let's hope he can keep it up. Anyone criticising him at this moment in time ought to have a think where we'd be in the table without him.
lildave3 Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 Even I will admit he has been playing well lately. The things I slagged him off for seem to have improved and the way he works the channels is sort of like watching a young me.

Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 I rate Fryatt but he annoys me so much. I think a lot of the time he needs 2 chances to score but yesterday he was awesome. But the annoying thing is that he scores harder chances than he misses sometimes, like the one on ones but then scores great goals like yesterday. We rely on him too much as well.
lou Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 I stand by everything Ive ever said about Fryatt because thats how I felt at the time. Yes hes doing well so far this season and Ive always said Im happy for players Ive not rated to prove me wrong. He still misses too many and his passing is woeful at times but hes the only one scoring for us so Im happy with him as it stands. I will not have a blinkered view of any player at this club, if they play well I'll happily acknowledge that but theyll all have their bad days and faults. Hope he keeps it up anyway.
Leicester Rule! Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 I still say that he lacks speed and acceleration. His composure is good, but he should have had a fair few more goals this season. Look at the Peterbrough chance.
Matt Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 I still say that he lacks speed and acceleration. His composure is good, but he should have had a fair few more goals this season. Look at the Peterbrough chance. He wasn't v Blackpool imo. He was a different player, so sharp, and quick...He must have been on his comedown v Peterborough though.
dayday Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 i never doubted him Hi everyone,a newbie so go easy on me. I think what people have to remember is that good strikers will probaly score a 1in 3/4shots ratio,so on that score he is doing very well. Take his and Dany N'guessans goals out of the equation, only Waghorn has scored, now that is a worry.
