But surely they are loons? So, who cares if they think they are better than you? You know they are not, because they don't believe in 'science'.

A political party could have everyone departed, but God doesn't exist does he... so what's the problem?!

Blimey these Christians are harsh, he says deported and you're killing them all instead.

Good and bad etc are things the world has unfortunately forgotten.

Imo law should be based on good/bad i.e. moral/immoral rather than 'legal'/'illegal'.

Very strict definitions of law lead to serious injustices.

There was a case in Hong Kong where a flight attendant who was sexually assaulted during a flight couldn't press charges since laws relating to sexual assault didn't cover airplanes. She ended up being fired because of the kerfuffle that followed. Is this justice?

Unfortunately we are straying too far from good/bad and this has started because of hatred towards anything remotely biblical/religious, which more often than not are solid indicators of decent morality.

Morality is almost entirely subjective, and the black/white dichotomy is dangerously simplistic when people try to use it as a means of enforcing control over the lives of others.

And religious scripture is merely the words of a man - or, at the very stringiest example, the words of a 'God' written down by a man which is little better given our inherent inability to understand the will of an omnipotent being - so any view of morality it gives is equally subjective and by no means absolute.

I would probably say I am a 'red letter Christian', and that I think that the words attributed to Christ are very meaningful and powerful, and because a lot of the language used is metaphorical and allegorical much can be open to interpretation, either for good or bad.

Convenient Christianity.

Very, well, convenient.

There's no point arguing with a religious person. They'll find a reason to quash any argument you attempt and if they can't they just say say it's because they have faith.

I'd be interested if anybody on here has had athiest parents, or has been brought up without religion but has ended up religious, and why.

A bit like "Pearson IN".

Bunch of Jehovah Witnesses trying to hand out leaflets outside Edinburgh Haymarket all day every day. Never ceases to astound me how these regular looking wearing suits folk get drawn into what is essentially a cult. It's just WIERD!

Judging others says more about you then them. Im atheist but alot of people cant go through life without a sense of meaning or path laying out in front of them throughout life, so if religion cults or anything else gives a person this then fair play to them i say. You should count yourself lucky that you think the way you do as you will never need to get involved with religious things, but at same time it shouldn't give people the right to mock or look down at anyone else as you dont see life through there eyes but your own. I dont believe in god religion but can see alot of people would be lost without a sense of meaning or direction without it. Doesn't mean your right or there wrong or other way.

The point isn't that god doesn't exist and these people are wrong, the point is that these people think I should be punished for all eternity for not agreeing with them, and their god seemingly is willing to oblige. It doesn't matter that it won't happen, what matters is the sadistic nature of those people.

I am disillusioned by the direction our society is heading towards.

Disgusting standards and norms being upheld by people in general, unfortunately I would be condemned to death for pointing these out.

Let's say football and tinder is all I have in common with 80-90% of you.

If anyone wants another person to go to hell, then they wouldn't be very nice. I'd imagine most Christians actually do not want you to be punished. Most Christians I know are actually sad that more people do not have a relationship with Christ and are praying that God's grace will suffice. Personally, I don't want anyone to go to hell.

But again, why do you care what people think? Do you think they will act on their 'sadistic nature'? It isn't like they can put you in hell themselves.

If you believe - great

If it enhances your life - fantastic

Just don't tell me that I'm going to burn and suffer for eternity because I don't believe the same as you

This is spot on. Grinds my ears something rotten that people teach kids this.

If you actually believe that people are going to Hell for all of eternity then why do you have a computer and why are you spending time supporting a football club. If you believe that people will be burning forever and ever why aren't you out there every waking second trying to convert people. If I genuinely believed this evil twisted lie I wouldn't sleep at night.

You don't believe in god, we get it.

Clearly you don't as I've said in this thread, which is designed for religious talk, that I do believe in God.

'For I know the plans I have for you', declared the Lord, 'to prosper you and not to harm you, just don't fvcking buy a computer and support a football team'.

Oh and if you believe it's a "sick and twisted lie" then why are you wasting your time, get the fvck out there and start protesting outside churches!

People who preach in public can **** off, people who translate their religion in to passive or literal violence can **** off, people who use outdated dark ages dogma to persecute a race, gender, sexuality, sex, culture or creed can **** off. People who use their religion to coerce others in to surrendering their money, liberty, contraceptives, sexual, mental or physical health can **** off.

Other than that I don't give a toss.

Most of the moderately religious people I know are the most considerate and caring people I know and the most content because of the morality their religion encourages. I don't have a problem with that.

I'm somewhere between atheist, agnostic, vaguely spiritual and moderately humanist and most accurately - I don't give two shits. The Christians have the best architecture, the Buddhists have the best martial arts, the Hindus have the best food and the Sikhs have the best headgear.

All I know is that, whilst almost certainly a psychological placebo, my mother's faith gives her literal, physical relief and helps her cope with a crippling auto immune condition. Or so she believes. That and her church community always enthusiastically looked after her as best as they could, before she moved. That's enough for me.

Muslims have the best food man. Also possibly the best interiors - I just love those Laura Ashley swirls guys!

I'm talking on the grounds of morals. If some people were about to go into their house that you knew was going to explode would you just leave them to it if they said they didn't believe you?

Don't say humour. That old Jews telling jokes stuff is rubbish. Protestants have the best humour. Orthodox have craziest weddings and best swingy incense things.

Uh, they're both joint best at not eating pork scratchings? Mind you, they're also joint worst at bacon sandwiches.

I guess I'd have to say the Muslims had the best twelfth century world leader(s?) and the Jews.......... uh... sideburns?

Shit no BAGELS. Bagels. You brilliant Jews. Bagels, take a bow, all of you. Who gave us pastrami? Was that the Jewish too? Well done guys.
