BoneDog Posted 5 April 2015 Posted 5 April 2015 HARK! Thought I'd start this thread to save other FT'ers from having their threads spoiled by religious arguments. One reply to a comment about religion can ruin a good thread, so in future instead of me replying in the thread it happens in and causing 10 pages of crap that alot of folk don't want to read I'll quote and reply in here (when I can be bothered). Others can also rant about religion in here if they want to - I'll allow that. God hates masturbators*. You know who you are. Hang your heads in shame. Hallelujah. *I don't actually know if this is true.
The Doctor Posted 5 April 2015 Posted 5 April 2015 I give it 2 pages before it's deleted for holocaust denial.
BoneDog Posted 5 April 2015 Author Posted 5 April 2015 Is it OK to deny Jesus Yes mate, I'm not a nazi.
Strokes Posted 5 April 2015 Posted 5 April 2015 Hmm one thread gone, better feck off before we all get detention.
Benguin Posted 5 April 2015 Posted 5 April 2015 Most people think I am an Athiest because I go out of my way to argue with theists. I know several religious people and love debating with them. I am however not an Athiest as I do believe in God. I find it impossible to understand that the world was created from nothing. I think that the rules of the universe could suggest a creator. I find most peoples interpretation of God, however an absolute joke. My [personal favourite religion to mock is Christianity because A: a lot of my family and friends are Christians and B: Cause some of the stuff they say is so funny. God is all knowing, does he know what it feels like to want to have anal with Rachel Riley? God is all loving, so he loves me and therefore I'm already saved? God wants everyone to love him and billions do, but most love him by the wrong set of rules i.e - Christian God and a Muslim or a Muslim God and a Jewish boy. Why doesn't God just end the wrong religions so all those who are loving him the wrong way can start loving the right way? Why is Religion so geographically influenced? Why do Christians say you have a choice? You can't choose to believe something! You can choose what to wear or what to eat but belief is not chosen. I can read the bible, go to church, surround myself with Christians but just like love it is not a choice whether I actually believe.
Merging Cultures Posted 6 April 2015 Posted 6 April 2015 God is all knowing, does he know what it feels like to want to have anal with Rachel Riley? Sure. God is all loving, so he loves me and therefore I'm already saved? Free will, so it hurts Him if you do not accept Jesus as your Saviour from sin. God wants everyone to love him and billions do, but most love him by the wrong set of rules i.e - Christian God and a Muslim or a Muslim God and a Jewish boy. It's up to the believers to spread the good news. Why do Christians say you have a choice? You can't choose to believe something! You can choose what to wear or what to eat but belief is not chosen. Lots of people know about Christianity, yet they have chosen not to explore it or seek God personally. If you believe that He doesn't exist, or believe another religion, and have heard about God and Christianity but haven't explored the potential that He does exist then you are making a choice.

I think Benthefoxface was speaking about people who have looked at what Christianity has to say and have rejected it after doing so. In their case their lack of belief is not the result of a concious choice. They haven't chosen not to believe, they simply can't help but find the claims Christianity makes to be unconvincing. Concerning the point you make about people who choose not to examine Christianity carefully, I think you're being unfair. There are many religions in the world today, is it reasonable for God to expect us to explore all of them? That's what we'd have to do in order to be certain (from a position of naivety) that we hadn't 'chosen not to explore the possibility of God'.

Fair enough, way too early too be catching up on these heavy threads!! I can only talk from my experience, and in my opinion, if the person has explored Christianity and come away not believing, then there certainly isn't much that can be done. Most Christians go through doubt, but I believe as we continue to seek Him, He reveals Himself to us. I've struggled with my faith a lot. Long periods where I've felt so distant from God, when really He has been there with me I've just been looking in the wrong place. Developing a relationship with Christ is a lifelong journey and book knowledge of Christianity only goes so far. Personally, I think most religions are interpretations of the same thing and unless you are exposed to all, God isn't going to 'punish you' for not having heard about or studied another religion. Christians have a bonus to know about Jesus, but that almost makes it harder because now we have to follow his teachings too. However, if you are a believer in a certain religion, it seems to me it either matters infinitely or not at all. There isn't much middle ground. If it is infinitely important, then you should want all your family and friends to know about it. Believers have a commission to tell others the Good News. Not that I'm a good advert for Christianity really!

What God do you believe in and follow? How is it impossible for the world to be created by nothing, but on the other hand you want to believe it to be created by something/someone that has never been proven to physically exist and has been argued to only be people's figment of imagination? After all, God is only a construct within people's minds which they've built over time from whatever has been written in a 'holy' book.

I simply don't understand the universe and fear death so bridge those gaps with God. I do not know what God is or whether there is and afterlife. I just can't imagine it all ending; all though I completely understand the atheist perspective and heavily doubt a God most of the time. I do not believe in ANY Diety composed by religion.

Benguin Posted 6 April 2015 Posted 6 April 2015 Aren't gods constructed from religion or some kind of following? What kind of god do you follow? No its the other way around, belief in God creates Religion. Belief in God has always existed, it's human nature. I don't follow a particular type of God, I don't understand nor do I try to understand what God is. To think you know the will of God is utmost arrogance. I believe that the world did not come from nothing, simply that.

No, I just don't want to believe that there is nothing. Really good article about an Oxford Uni study about the very question "Is belief in God human nature." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/8510711/Belief-in-God-is-part-of-human-nature-Oxford-study.html
