Voted but felt pretty disappointed in the options, considering I live in a "battle-ground" the campaigning here has been pretty awful, other than a trees worth of flyers coming through the door, each one just trotting out the party line, it has been pretty dull.

There weren't even any interesting parties on the ballot, just the usual 5, with only 2 having any chance of winning it. FPTP sucks and I hope that the outcome of this election is as muddy and unclear as everyone has predicted and something is done about this awful antiquated and undemocratic system we have to make the most important choice we can in how the direction this country goes in.

Going to vote later, shame I live in one of the safest Tory seats there is :(

Why don't you move?

Sell up and move to St Matthews or something.

Surely even you've got to admit that's a stupid post, Matt. Cmon. There's flippant and then there's just silly. That was Kenesque.

Oh I'm being a little mischievious.

A lot of people who moan about living in a certain area could move though if they wanted too.

Sure, to an extent. But I don't think many people really move because their MP seat is Tory or Labour.

If I could afford to live in the top end of Rothley or Woodhouse, I don't think I'd give a toss that it's a solid Tory seat.

I'll bet you a shitload of Tories have moved out of Brighton Pavillion.

And their rent would be cheaper !

That's sort of the point I'm making though. If you want to get out a solid Tory area to live in a Labour one it shouldn't really be that hard for the vast majority on the basis of property prices.

The reason Thatcher did what she did was exactly because of what you have just said there, let's give people who live in council/social housing tthe chance to actually work their way to being able to afford to living at the top end of Rothley or Woodhouse. Nothing wrong with that.

No, what Thatcher did was implement a short termist, populist policy to win working class votes from short termist thinkers and diminish public housing stock for future generations.

But let's not have that argument in this thread when FIF and MB are calling each other stupid in the landlord thread over the same thing.

End of the day, an area's MP should hold little sway in whether or not you live there.

Whoever gets elected, we all have to live with it nation wide.

We'll agree to disagree I think.

It is a valid point. I've never known a Labour area that isn't a complete dive. But what came first, the chicken or the egg? (Brighton is lovely, I don't think the Greens are nearly as bad as is made out).

Given that Labour is typically popular in working class, inner city areas and Conservatives in more rural, middle class areas that's not really shocking.

Some  people prefer to live near family and friends especially the elderly who may have lived on the same street  for years, know the neighbours and feel safe  when going to a local shop. If they moved  they  could have unsavory types next door.

Eureka! All becomes clear.
