Newcastle 39

Villa 39

Hull 37

Leicester 35

Sunderland 33

Burnley 33

QPR 32

Is how I see it. Would take it right now!!!

There are upsets to come. We have to beat Newcastle.

I honestly think that Burnley and QPR are down which is not overly helpful as Burnley still have to play Villa and Hull and I would want them totally committed for these games! Two wins should do for City but I do hope that we don't have a repeat of yesterday's line-up (I mean, Konchesky!!), tactics and performance at Sunderland as that could put us right in the mix again. Just when you think Big Nigel has learnt a few lessons he starts tinkering again..

When your multi-positional, multi-talented player of the season is out and one of your most hard-working creative players is out  - you have to chnage your lineup. That's not tinkering.

Who did you think would replace Konch with Schlupp out?

I wouldn't worry about Burnley and QPR's commitment until they are mathematically down. I'm sure they'll carry on until they have an R next to their name. Even then, they may play better with the pressure off.

Bare minimum, 2 more wins would mean Sunderland having to win 3 to overtake us - considering goal difference - and you can't see them winning 3 from that run in.

And that's not considering Hull.

So many permeations, and it'll change on a weekly basis I bet.

A point v Chelsea and a win against Newcastle would set us up very nicely.

I think despite Hull's win yesterday they are bang in trouble with that fixture list and to be honest I don't fancy QPR's or Sunderland's either! Ignoring form and betting just on the remaining fixtures I'd be thinking Burnley has the best chance of getting out of it, oddly enough.

This. I keep looking at Sunderlands run in and I can't see them getting many points at all, although people thought that last year.

If we beat Sunderland I don't think they'll get more than 33 points.

True but I can't see them doing it 2 seasons running. They were lucky to get a 2nd chance by staying up last year and they haven't improved at all. I was looking at their squad to see who I would like us to poach if they go down and there was nobody really. Let's face it we all know that we need to improve over the summer so if they have not even one player that you'd think I'd like us to sign him shows how poor they are.

Adam Johnson is focked.

Ricardo alvarez on loan there, has good pedigree but hasn't settled.

Even rodwell damaged goods at the moment

All the rest meh. defoe I wouldn't want us to sign even on a free. Short sighted and the wages huge.

They are a poor side.

Hull will beat one of the big teams they still have to play. Sunderland know how to do the bare minimum and scrape out results to stay up.

we have a huge task in front of us to beat them

If Chelsea beat us & Newcastle benefit from the 'dead cat bounce' and we put in a poor performance seeing them beat us... then we'll have a herculean task to stay up - that's not beyond the realms of possibility, in fact it's quite likely to some extent or another

How many points do we reckon we'll need to stay up?

Newcastle? I think I have edited the points right.

Assuming QPR and Bunley are gone, editted to make it a bit easier to focus on the 5 teams battling it out for survival:

Southampton (h), Sunderland (a), QPR (h)

Hull (34 points):

For us to go down with 40 points (2 more wins) requires Newcastle, Villa, Hull to each win 2 games and Sunderland to win 2 and draw one.

Even then it would go down to GD between us Hull and Sunderland....

Can't see Sunderland doing better than 36. We'll beat QPR to take 37 at least. Hull will do Burnley and get 37 at least. Newcastle won't win another game but might get a point. Villa win 2 of their 3 and go 41. So it'd come down to Toon or Mackem on GD.

Atm ,the way things are going, I don't think any result in that group is a nailed on certainty.

Sunderland playing the four most in-form sides in the PL, three of them away.

i dunno after the crap results they've had this year, they deserve to go down, regardless if they win with that run in.

makes me feel a little better looking at the run ins like that I must admit, hopefully arsenal win by 2/3 goals tomorrow & we'll go up a place in the table :)

Genuinely can't see Villa losing any of those (and I'll bet you they win the cup, too)

Hull surprised us all by beating Liverpool but I think it would be a miracle for them to beat Arsenal, Spurs AND Man Utd.

Sunderland did well yesterday but playing Everton, Arsenal and Chelsea amid us should hopefully prove too much.

After yesterday's performance I genuinely can't see where Newcastle are going to get their next point from, let alone win. They were in total dissarray and not a single player looked like he wanted to be there, to such an extent that at least one almost certainly got himself sent off on purpose. Carver clearly hates his players and they clearly hate him - nobody wants to be there.

As for us, Sunderland is the crucial game that we MUST NOT LOSE under any circumstances. We can beat both Southampton and QPR I think too.

The last spot is either Sunderland's or Newcastle's I think. Hopefully the latter.

It would  be  good if Sunderland and Newcastle played each other  last day or dependant on results of each other. It will be chaos on Teeside.

Teesside is Middlesbrough.
