Dodgy Bob Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 The absolute state of this. A new low in the campaign.
Alf Bentley Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Interesting BBC article re. the sequence of events after the referendum, particularly if there's a Leave vote: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-36420148 I found this bit, about the role of the Westminster Parliament interesting: "The majority of Britain's 650 MPs are in favour of Britain staying in the EU and while they will have to respect the will of the British people if they vote to leave the EU, they will not be silent bystanders. There are already moves among the 450 or so MPs who want to stay in the EU, across the Labour, Conservative, SNP, Plaid Cymru and Green parties, to keep Britain in the single market in any exit negotiations. This would mean Britain would have to keep its borders open to EU workers and continue paying into EU coffers. They say it would be legitimate for MPs to do this because the Leave campaign has refused to spell out what trading relationship it wants the UK to have with the EU in the future - and it would demonstrate the sovereignty of Parliament the Leavers were so keen to restore". Is anyone clear what the official Leave line is on the single market? Early on, Gove said that, post-Brexit, the UK would NOT try to stay in the single market, but would negotiate deals from outside it, more like Albania/Ukraine and less like Norway or Switzerland. Yet a lot of Leave people seem to assume that it will be possible to stay in the single market, with all its advantages, while ditching the "freedom of movement within the EU" so as to retake control of immigration. Surely the EU would not give the UK the option to stay in the single market AND ditch freedom of movement?!? My assumption is that we'll have to choose - some sort of deal similar to Norway or Switzerland (in single market, paying contributions, accepting freedom of movement) or outside single market, with UK control of EU immigration but having to negotiate new deals, potentially paying tariffs etc. A couple more articles here (FT & New Statesman): https://next.ft.com/content/72c1cd00-321b-11e6-bda0-04585c31b153 http://www.newstatesman.com/politics/uk/2016/06/can-uk-have-deal-eu-switzerland-or-norway "The

johnny the fox Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 I'm 10 minutes into this and it's surprisingly alright. They've repeated a few of the arguments I've heard but there are some uniquely left-wing points made too. I'd encourage other people to have a watch if you've got time. crowd funded for 6 grand..
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 The absolute state of this. A new low in the campaign. I take it you mean this strange new trend to stand with legs wide apart as Farage has adopted in the picture! What is that about?
Jimothy Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 that picture was taken from the front page of the Guardian... Point being?
Jimothy Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 no point just a fact... Well thanks, I'm not sure why you felt the need to inform everyone of that completely useless fact.
Nalis Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 that picture was taken from the front page of the Guardian... Minus the white guy photoshopped from the billboard for maximum effort of course.
Strokes Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Minus the white guy photoshopped from the billboard for maximum effort of course. That's positive discrimination for you
Jimothy Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Minus the white guy photoshopped from the billboard for maximum effort of course. Tbf the white guy isn't photoshopped out, he's just behind that white box on the bottom right. If you look at the original photo, there's quite a bit cut off the bottom.
johnny the fox Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Well thanks, I'm not sure why you felt the need to inform everyone of that completely useless fact. informing people of facts is never useless in context of a referendum unless you wish to be willfully ignorant ..
Jimothy Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 informing people of facts is never useless in context of a referendum unless you wish to be willfully ignorant .. It's a ****ing pointless fact what paper the picture is from What could that possibly add to the debate? What could it possibly inform anyone trying to make an informed decision?
Dodgy Bob Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 I haven't got a clue what the relevance of the source of the photo is either, but i didn't take it from the guardian anyway, i took it from the telegraph as you'll see if you check the properties.
johnny the fox Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 It's a ****ing pointless fact what paper the picture is from What could that possibly add to the debate? What could it possibly inform anyone trying to make an informed decision? i'm not here to personally inform you of anything..please make your'e own mind up .. and i don't think you speak for everybody on here unless you think you do.
Jimothy Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 i'm not here to personally inform you of anything..please make your'e own mind up .. and i don't think you speak for everybody on here unless you think you do. I didn't say you were you imbecile. I'm just baffled why you felt the need to tell everyone where the photo came from. It's information that has no baring on the referendum, it's just a completely pointless post, totally meaningless.
davieG Posted 19 June 2016 Author Posted 19 June 2016 It's a ****ing pointless fact what paper the picture is from What could that possibly add to the debate? What could it possibly inform anyone trying to make an informed decision? If it's so pointless why are you making such a fuss about it, if it meant nothing to you why even question the relevance it's just nit picking and arguing for the sake of it and distracts from any discussions.

I'm just confused, and now he's trying to make out its very important to the referendum debate that we all know where this picture came from. It'd be nice if Johnny actually posted something of substance, rather than stupid post that say absolutely nothing other than the implication that he believes he's much smarter than you. I'm happy to discuss the referendum, I'm not the one trying to make out the source of a picture is important to that. I'm just asking why, and he's not answering.

There wasn't even any fit poon of the pic, so why bother discussing it

You're making it important by making it a discussion point, if you'd have ignored it I doubt I or any others would have noticed it. Sadly I've now made it even more noticeable

Dr The Singh Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Don't worry, Moose. Nobody would ever confuse you with a Guardian reader.. , do they still do Sunday Sport
Jimothy Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 You're making it important by making it a discussion point, if you'd have ignored it I doubt I or any others would have noticed it. Sadly I've now made it even more noticeable I asked him a simple question, he escalated it by not answering me and making stupid post trying to imply the source was very important without actually saying anything. He's the one escalating not me, I just wanted my very simple question answered.
