Jeff Schlupp

Well I don't think he was at all, Schlupp was for the most part what I've been saying Schlupp is for two years... a mixed bag. Great at gaining ground on the pitch for the team, a real threat with his pace pulling people all over the shop, but much of the time when he has to think about it poor shooting and poor delivery.

In most games you'll get the sublime and then the ridiculous from him. That's what I mean by steady, it was for the most part just his usual game. There were some games where he was great and others where he was poor, but for the most part it was just usual Jeff, with an upwards trend to a bit more good stuff as the season went on and he got used to the league.... much like everyone else.

That's not a slight on him, I appreciate when he brings both defensively and in attack. I'm surprised he was players players (as most people probably were) but I think his team mates appreciate he does a lot of work at both ends of the field.

ah right, i just assumed that "sublime or ridiculous" was basically the opposite of steady. apologies.

Is the rumour of a new contract deal any more believable than the ones suggesting the links to other clubs.

He had a new contract for 4 years last year as we entered the PL so I'm not convinced.

I believe it was a 3 year deal so he will have 2 remaining.

I may be wrong

You're not.

Konchesky's an extremely limited footballer but at least he does actually have a bit of know-how positionally at left back - only natural given Schlupp is a lot younger and has never really settled into a position. No idea why some get so defensive when this is pointed out.

Like schlupp and think with his pace he works great for us, but an Arsenal player :) Imagine him being involved in a champions league possession keeping move. Not sure he can trap a ball, think, pass, think to move, receive the ball, pass.Too many thinks methinks. Hopefully he will develop with LCFC but a million miles away from Arsenal standard. The ability to be powerful and run fast is not enough for a top 4 team is it?

You're right that he still needs to develop before he could potentially get in the arse's team but to be fair, Gibbs isn't exactly awe inspiring, his England caps owe more to the fact that he's at arse rather than true international class.

Close enough, but obviously comfortable territory for you to dig around and out of.

They mean completely different things. If I say Eden Hazard is one of the best wingers in recent PL history does that mean he's the best since 1992? Of course it doesn't. There's no "digging" required.

And the idea that I or anybody else "hates" Jeff Schlupp is mad, he tries his best for us he's just not a very good full back in my opinion. I quite like his attitude actually (it's hard not to) but I reserve the right to think that as a full back he is rubbish, just as you reserve yours to rate him as a left back.

People need to get themselves on google and watch every MOTD Leicester highlights and watch the  winning run again. Schlupp  has been instrumental no doubt about that, fair play to the lad he deserves an improved offer.

Mate, he was the players player of the season. And played some of the season at left back. And some at wing back..yet he's 'rubbish'. And Arsenal have shown an interest...

Have you thought this one through?

Not Surprised OUR JEFF is attracting interest from some of the bigger clubs.

Always will be the first name on the team sheet for me.

Also was impressed with his earlier interviews showing his allegiance to the club - loyalty goes a long way in this day and age.

Well I certainly have and think he's spot on.

Do you honestly believe our squad thought he was our best player last season?

I think they've collectively seen someone who's confidence has always been a bit up and down, someone who's had a lot of adapting to do (largely involving his regularly changing position), someone likeable and someone with potential, and decided to vote for him. I might be wrong here, but I just do not believe that he was our best player last season and playing at left back, absolutely certainly wasn't.

Those things I've listed are positives generally - things that will always go in his favour, and that's why I've got more faith in him than I once had too, I just do not believe he is a good left back at this level. Left wing back or left wing.

Steady also means "regular", and I just defined my definition in the post above about what was regular about him. The games where he was either terrible or great you could probably count on one hand. Most of the rest were just regular Jeff, a mixed bag of great and shit. Not enough of either to label him good or bad in that game.

I'd rather not have the guy at left back, he's got a lot of improving to do. But labeling him "the worst" in that position is just ridiculous. Especially when he played so few games there. Unless you've watched every game in the premier for the last decade I'm not sure anyone can make such comments. TTFN explained he was responding to someone saying he'd push the Arsenal left back for a game, I'm I'd agree that's a way off comment as well.

Loyalty indeed is a rare but precious thing these days

Players' player of the season means nothing really though does it? Just often given a popular squad member who tries hard.

I doubt the players seriously thought Schulpp was more important to the team than Cambiasso, Vardy, Huth or Wasyl etc

Since when did Schlupp become the new Bobby Carlos? I get that he's a likeable character, he's 'one of our own', and he has improved this season, as shown in the run in, but come on, some people seriously need to relax a little with the rimming. What was the source for the Arsenal bid anyway? That strikes me as something that would be one of the biggest mismatches in football. He in no way, shape or form, embodies the way they play.

Yes he has, he said he was rubbish at left back but very good as wing back. I don't get why people are so offended, we all want him to succeed but he has limitations and plenty of improvements to make.

I'd guess people are offended about him being "one of the worst premier league left backs in recent history", which for me is a bit of a silly comment for all the reasons already outlined.

I think Schlupp has been hammered (needlessly IMO) this season and comments like that are OTT. There are plenty of ways his limitations could have been discussed. So people will get a bit defensive if they think it's over the top.

This.

If you're going to go wildly over the top with criticism then it's only natural to expect people to go over the top when defending him.
