I asked him the same question, his response was he's lost a yard or two of pace in the last couple of seasons. That makes a difference when you're playing in the knockout stages of the Champions League. I'd personally be very happy with this signing. Getting a free agent with international experience and a regular spot in a top Bundesliga side would be quite a coup for us.

Would you describe albrighton as quick? Well I'm certain Konch could have played for Austria in his prime and didn't he play European football a fair bit at Fulham and Liverpool? Slow is slow at the end of the day and if you're playing wing back you need to get up and down at a decent rate. If he's signing as a left back than fair enough. No, more tenacious but he was equally as effective as Schlupp on the left.

If Pearson has plans to keep the back three and a midfield five then the wingers/wingbacks need to be able to do both jobs and Schlupp is currently perfect for this system. If we were playing a flat 4 then I'd look at a new left back, and completely understand Pearson going for someone like this.
