fleckneymike Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Anyway. At away games theres quite a good representation of Leicester and Leicestershire in the crowd.
shailen Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 I'm asian and a lot of younger asian players are good enough, but they are taken out because some of their parents still believe that there is a prejudice towards ethnic players and some don't see it as a viable career. The thing with asian culture in general, is that parents get involved in their childrens lives because they want to almost secure their future for them. The odds of becoming a doctor for example are far more favourable than the odds of becoming a footballer. Think we will see more asian footballers now, when the generation that has lived in this country become parents. As for why there are so little asian fans, I asked my dad/uncle who said that in the 80s they felt threatened to go, because of the abuse and racist chants they got. My dad has always been a LCFC fan, but only in the last 20 years or so has gone to matches regularly. Many people his age did not take the plunge and so their children were not born going to the football every week, and therefore with no affinity towards Leicester chose the likes of United/Arsenal...etc, who they could see on TV every week. Now with more asian fans going to the KP, bringing their families, the numbers will increase and we will see more fans.
RizLCFC Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 In my immediate family, me and my dad are the only Leicester fans, we always have been, the others are Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal. If we stay in the topflight for a number of years then I'm certain the number of Asian fans will increase. Do I think the club do enough to attract Asian fans? No I don't. Will they? Probably not. Unlike Leicestershire CCC, but they have to, in order to increase income from revenue but more importantly sponsorship, as there are a lot of wealthy Asian businessmen in the county and city, with our wealthy owners, we aren't in need of that. This season, I've got to know 20 odd Asian fans, mostly in their early to mid 20s, so it's good to see that they are attending games at young age and hopefully they can continue to do so along with their families. I myself have only ever once experienced racism in and around the ground, so I hope that's not a concern for any Asian fans. Also, the Asian mentality isn't buying family season tickets and attending games every Saturday, that just doesn't happen, don't know why, I love going with my old man and friends to the footy.
foxinsox Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Each year there seem to be more Asians at City. Quite a few Chinese/Korean too around me in the East Stand, who I think are students. They seem as enthusiastic as anyone else and loving the atmosphere. I have not heard any racist talk either. Times change and good to see an integrated crowd, the team has been integrated for years. If you want to see an all white crowd then watch the Tigers, very rare to see a non white face at Welford Road.

During the previous ownership,City have done a lot in the community to get more Asians into KP but as you stated yourself its not the in thing to buy ST's to basically guarantee going footy on a week to week basis. There are some Asian box holders but on the whole the elder generations would have found it ludicrous to pay money to watch football when they could watch wrestling on TV and get pissed whilst doing so!!!

Gerard Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 The more the years go on the more Asian culture is absorbed into British culture. For example curry is more popular than fish and chips. You wouldn't bat an eye if you hears racist comments in the 1980's but nowadays people would be offended to hear it. I think we'll see more Asians coming as time goes on and especially if Leicester are successful and encourages people to support their local club and come down to watch a high quality product.
Dr The Singh Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 My dad a proud Singh goes, with a doaba turban goes, with his grandson who wears a patka, who is my son, gets no hassle, compared to the 80's, 90's is a massive statement. If people don't want to come an d see city, whatever colour, race, they can foook off
Dr The Singh Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Asians and Rugby will NEVER work, unless something drastic happens! Not true, I played for Leicester Forest for years, along with a lot of other Sikhs, there loads of Sikhs thatbplay in the Bedford area, its the only sport that relates to kabbadi
Dr The Singh Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 BTW, WTF Asian???!? Massive place, Europe is a piece of puss in comparison
kam6 Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Myself and a few of the lads, being Sikh, all support Leicester and have done since the day we could. 20 years a season ticket holder. I used to go with me old man and I fell in love with the club. I think that the last three years in our group we have gone from 4 "Asian" ST holders to about 16 in b2 and comfy seats respectively. This was not a jump on the premier league bandwagon thing, they became ST holders from the championship and now majority of them from supporting Man Utd Liverpool arsenal etc, they're first team is now Leicester. I think that the Asian fan base will increase in years to come. I've always believed in support the local team from where u were born
lestajigs Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Since we got in the premier league, there seems to be a increase in Asians, at a guess they where supporting Man U, arsenal, Liverpool, the season before!! Might be a few Leicester through and through, but most are just in it for the premier league! At a guess
Dr The Singh Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Do you mean you were born in India, or that you are of South Asian heritage? It's an interesting question because I have a friend whose parents are/were Asian but he is fiercely "Lestuh!" and, along with his sister, is a lifelong City fan. On the other hand, these days, it must be even more desperate being a cricket fan in Leicester(shire) than it ever was being a City fan! Any fookrr born here and say they are etc etc are coonts. Giving India as an example, having been there for every year of my life, and my dad having long established business, they saying they are Indian are in a Bollywood world, the place ranks of the worst hiprokosy and inhumane behaviour in the world

Apologise if its seem unique, being a Sikh, I think my brothers in Burma and Mongolia would be upset
lestajigs Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 That expands to all to be fair, glory hunters everywhrre True,
Dr The Singh Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Now to some this thread will come across as racist however with Leicester being a multicultural city why do we lack Asian or multicultural fans? Off the top of my head I know 20 Asian Leicester fans how come we don't see more down the King Power or away games? 20 more then there would be 10 years ago. From my perspective, its ramping up, year by year I see loads, Muslims, hindus, Sikhs etc, there will be a time in a few years where people will moan there will be too many

What folks me off, is the word of Asian, WTF is Asian mentality, your making statements for a continent, to be fair I would say that if you mentioned Indian, that place is cooking continent the foooking gujratis are well different to the Punjabi's, in fact the within Punjab the banaya are well different to the sikhs. So don't insult the likes of me and state who the foook younr talking about

When I was at Uni in the 90's there were plenty of rugby playing Sikhs. One was very good and played at pro level rugby union for a team in the lower leagues. And yes he was from Luton.
Dr The Singh Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 As an indian myself and having most of my family is leicester, cricket is by far more popular, having previous generations far greater interest in that sport. There are hardly any leicester fans I know, and even the younger generations tend to play/have more interest in playing cricketWTF, is an Indian, what do you mean, Gujarati, telegani, goan, because all of speak different languages, different cultures and beliefs, they have different genomes. Please don't confuse the likes of me.
Dr The Singh Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 As an Asian LC STH I only know a couple others whereas I probably know 10 fans for each Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea. I was actually brought up as an Man United fan till around 9/10 when I realised I didnt give a s*** about Manchester and felt a greater affinity towards Leicester. Never will understand why people wouldn't support their local club regardless of division or prestige WTF, are you, if you make a statement about you ethnicity, please be specific, Asia is a massive continent
Dr The Singh Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Exactly my thoughts but less racist than I would have put itWhy?i think the club should provide free tickets for asian fans so we can get more of them in the stands.Massive continent dude

Loads of Sikhs playing rugby, couple are professional at rugby league, a couple at Bedford, were coming dude to take over
