Lack of Asian fans

Now to some this thread will come across as racist however with Leicester being a multicultural city why do we lack Asian or multicultural fans?

Off the top of my head I know 20 Asian Leicester fans how come we don't see more down the King Power or away games?

Most I know support Liverpool, Manchester Utd. etc.,

Probably the reason why, we do have Asian fans, but population wise, it's a low amount.

Hopefully if we remain a top flight club for a number of years, it might encourage all parts of Leicestershire's cultures to follow the city, and when the ground is eventually extended, we will see mid 40 thousand gates.

Obviously generalisations are going to be inevitable in this thread, so I hope no offence is caused. I think it must just be that a lot of them don't fully identify with Leicester. Also if your parents don't support the local team you are far more likely to start glory-supporting at a young age and just stick with that, regardless of race. I'm sure more people will support Leicester in each new generation of families that stay in the city, especially now that we are in the prem.

I think a lot of Asian fans don't feel the same affinity to Leicester because they haven't been brought up on generations of their family supporting Leicester. So a lot of them have chosen to support United/Arsenal/Liverpool...etc. Sometimes I wonder if football was created now, given the worldwide exposure to watch any game if the bigger clubs would have even bigger support.

I know lot of Asian lads that are well into their football but I think the lack of Asian Leicester fans is due to the club not being passed down. There are even less of the older generation that are City fans (understandably) and like many, I started supporting Leicester because of my Dad. If their parents aren’t too passionate about it, then the only way they’d watch football as a kid would be on the TV and almost naturally now, like any armchair fan they’d pick Arsenal, United or Liverpool. We’ll gradually see more and more though.

It's a generational. I've certainly noticed an increase in the number of Asian supporters at games over the course of my lifetime, and I'm sure it'll continue to grow.

As an indian myself and having most of my family is leicester, cricket is by far more popular, having previous generations far greater interest in that sport. There are hardly any leicester fans I know, and even the younger generations tend to play/have more interest in playing cricket

There has been a huge increase in Asian demographic over the past ten years - it's actually far more noticeable in C and B Blocks.

As have I. Basically this.

Came on this thread to say pretty much the exact same thing as above.

It will only increase over time so I can see in 50 years or so the faces of our support won't be dissimilar from the ethnic make up of the City.

yeah basically if your dad/uncle etc didn't really like footy and you wanted to like it cos your mates liked it would you support us when we were shit or would you support liverpool/united/chelsea when they were winning the champions league and on sky every day and you can buy their kits in sports soccer?

i imagine some are getting into supporting us now and in 20 years time there will be a lot more leicester based people supporting leicester over other teams, should we stay in this league. whether they're asian, polish, african etc etc, if they're simply choosing their own team to support and they live in leicester, it's a lot more attractive to "choose" us now than it was 8 years ago.

Think the problem is when their family's were living abroad originally, they were probably bought up to support teams like man u and chelsea, and I don't think that's going to change just because they've moved to Leicester at some point in their past

Loads more in the West Stand these days, it's something that will increase over time, as other have said, it's different if you haven't had the family generational thing to attach you to the club.

As an Asian LC STH I only know a couple others whereas I probably know 10 fans for each Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea. I was actually brought up as an Man United fan till around 9/10 when I realised I didnt give a s*** about Manchester and felt a greater affinity towards Leicester.

Never will understand why people wouldn't support their local club regardless of division or prestige

Exactly my thoughts but less racist than I would have put it

I agree with this point a lot. I think most asian kids will grow up with parents who probably don't even care about football, so when they begin supporting teams they'll look for the better ones. Plus I think some asian people may feel intimidated by going to a mostly white working class football crowd.
