the zorro Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 So nothing for the lesbian community then? They all play for the ladies team
StanSP Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 why would it be racist, Ash, to ask this ?! Like VB says up above, I've also noticed more and more Asian fans over the years. It's certainly generational I think, too. Maybe as the club becomes more successful, we'll pick up more fans in their younger ages who go on to become true Leicester fans and not just support us because we're doing well.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 I know Indians/Pakistanis tend to prefer cricket but what kind of gates does Grace Road get? I think it's a market that City, Tigers and LCCC are not getting much of.
Bamba's Babes Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Now to some this thread will come across as racist however with Leicester being a multicultural city why do we lack Asian or multicultural fans? Off the top of my head I know 20 Asian Leicester fans how come we don't see more down the King Power or away games? Why is it racist?
Guest MattP Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 I know Indians/Pakistanis tend to prefer cricket but what kind of gates does Grace Road get? I think it's a market that City, Tigers and LCCC are not getting much of. They prefer cricket but not many seem to support Leicestershire, the vast majority support their parents/grandparents nations as well over their own.
The_77 Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 This is my favorite image from the past season: Been telling the same story for years about why I, as a native New Yorker, support City: twin brother (Jordan), Kasey Keller in the 90s, down to League One and back, blah blah... THAT photo really sums up what's so special about this club and its city, and it certainly makes me proud to be a New York Fox.
LanguedocFox Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 As an indian myself and having most of my family is leicester, cricket is by far more popular, having previous generations far greater interest in that sport. There are hardly any leicester fans I know, and even the younger generations tend to play/have more interest in playing cricket Do you mean you were born in India, or that you are of South Asian heritage? It's an interesting question because I have a friend whose parents are/were Asian but he is fiercely "Lestuh!" and, along with his sister, is a lifelong City fan. On the other hand, these days, it must be even more desperate being a cricket fan in Leicester(shire) than it ever was being a City fan!
AS78UK Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 My parents weren't really into sport, and I was always advised to avoid going to the stadium in the 80s in fear of being racially abused. In essence its not what asian kids do. Obviously over the years this concern has eased and hence we now see more asian heritaged supporters coming to show there support. Took my 6 and 5 year-olds to there first game this season and they can't wait for next season to go again. Can only see the Asian support getting stronger and stronger has we are now in second and third generation families.

Burmesefox Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 And for the gays. and quarter Burmese casual lads who live in Harborough.

We've had some big name Indian overseas players since the late 90s but it's hardly affected the gates. Very strange. Hopefully the new CEO has some good ideas to attract more Asian support, there's so much untapped potential there (as long as it doesn't lead to everyone Pakistani/of Pakistani heritage being booed all game, remember that happening at that unofficial T20 Champions League they had at Grace Road once).

foxoffderby Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 I know a guy who is Indian Sikh started going in the mid 80's when he was about 10. It was around the Lineker/Smith era. He used to to stand in pen 3 in the kop at filbo. He went through quite a lot abuse from away fans the usual racist comments, but the worst was when some of the lads in Pen 3 started giving him abuse other Leicester fans. That wasn't nice. I don't know how he got through it but he kept coming back even though he was clearly upset on many occasions. He even started going to away games in his teens. He still goes to City now and is a season ticket holder and has been for the last 12 years. He must be around 40 now.
Harry - LCFC Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 It isn't racist to make this thread, you're making a cultural observation which is perfectly fine. There are plenty of British Asians who like football but they tend to follow the bigger clubs. This is because they often lack a relative (usually the father) who brings them up to support 'their' club and explains to them why it's important to attend games on a regular basis. I think this will change over time. Current fans will pass on the lessons they've learnt from their experiences and more British Asians will adopt the English culture of supporting one's local club
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 i think the club should provide free tickets for asian fans so we can get more of them in the stands. Now, that really would be "racist discrimination."
Spudulike Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 As an Asian LC STH I only know a couple others whereas I probably know 10 fans for each Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea. I was actually brought up as an Man United fan till around 9/10 when I realised I didnt give a s*** about Manchester and felt a greater affinity towards Leicester. Never will understand why people wouldn't support their local club regardless of division or prestige That's absolutely it Kieron. I just don't get it either that someone will 'support' a club from another place of which they have no affinity regardless of their cultural heritage. What has a club in Manchester, Liverpool or London got to do with a person that has always lived in Leicester ?? It's one of the many things that I like about our club in that most of our fellow fans either come from our fair city or who have family connections. That's why it means so much more to us.
Raj Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Raj, Singh is King where you at lads?Hello!!!When I started going 20+ years ago it was the beginning of the end of the racism.I still hot a few from our own fans and there weren't really that many Asians going cos our parents always said it was non stop racism and gang warfare!!! Nowadays if you walk from Welford Rd to the groung before kick off you will notice a massive increase in Asian fans. To me its great, cos you will always see Asians playing footy everywhere but not taking the step up to supporting or playing at a higher level(cos they all wanna be dentists in it!!!) The proportion of black players to supporters however is worrying don't you think???
Raj Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Also like stated a lot support manure, liverpool even though they never go...I personally think its great that our demographic is more diverse in relation to our city culturualy...up the brown blue army!!!
SecretPro Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 I know Indians/Pakistanis tend to prefer cricket but what kind of gates does Grace Road get? I think it's a market that City, Tigers and LCCC are not getting much of. This. I know from my work colleagues that Cricket is the big thing with the Indians, even the young'uns. It's their sport of choice at school too. However, i was a season ticket holder for years down at LCCC and the only time I saw a real indian contingent was whenever Leicestershire played against India A.
fleckneymike Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Now to some this thread will come across as racist however with Leicester being a multicultural city why do we lack Asian or multicultural fans? Off the top of my head I know 20 Asian Leicester fans how come we don't see more down the King Power or away games? What the **** is a 'multicultural' fan? Something like 4% of all people in Leicestershire are Indian and 28% in the City. That'll probably be part of the reason.
