Nod.E Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 No idea how reliable the source is: http://www.hinckleytimes.net/sport/football/football-news/leicester-running-qpr-winger-9643721? Was very impressed with him last season. Wouldn't mind seeing him here.
Guest kristianity77 Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Yes, yes and yes. Always rated Matt Phillips. Got one hell of a shot on him as well!
Fox 4 Life Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 I think he would fit in very well here but WBA are definitely in the driving seat - whilst we have no manager the less desirable we will be to players unfortunately
lgfualol Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 I feel we're just another name added to the speculation by whoever it benefits, unless it is the ghost of NP trying to sign players.
Ed25 Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 He has been linked for a few weeks now. As people have already said, looks likely that he will be going West Brom
simon789us Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Not sure he's worth that but we need a winger hope manager is sorted this week as we will miss out on these signings if it drags on too long
Sharpe's Fox Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 No better than, or possibly not as good as, Albrighton or Mahrez. This is a bit meh for me.
AyewJoking Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Is it better to sign players with no Premier League experience or players who have failed in the Premier League?
gurru991 Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 I think Austin is better value at 15 than Williams at 10
Nod.E Posted 13 July 2015 Author Posted 13 July 2015 Is it better to sign players with no Premier League experience or players who have failed in the Premier League? Harsh. His team failed but Phillips, for the most part at least, performed very well as far as I can tell. A lot of the good things QPR did seemed to go through Austin and Phillips. We could quite easily have been relegated last season but would that have made Mahrez, Kasper and Cambiasso failed Prem players?

Nod.E Posted 13 July 2015 Author Posted 13 July 2015 Yes Your black and white approach to failure confuses me. They were impressive. A player's inability to achieve the club's goal takes nothing away from their ability to succeed at other clubs.
LCCFox96 Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 I rate Phillips but I'm not sure I'd like to see £10mil invested in his services. That's a huge fee for a player who doesn't yet justify it in my opinion. If we could get him for £6-7mil then it would probably represent good business. Also just because a player has QPR on their CV doesn't mean they're a total shit shack! Phillips stepped up to the plate on a number of occasions for QPR last season, if more of his teammates had done the same then they might still be in this league.

The more money that comes into the Prem, the more people will expect, and the more people are willing to pay in transfer fees...

People have got to stop saying arbitrary numbers next to what they think we should pay. We have money and clearly want to progress. The key is to identify the right players and then go get them.
foxfanazer Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Would be really happy with this! Double swoop for him and Austin

My point being that for £10mil, or any arbitrary figure you or I could quote in that region, we could potentially strengthen with a better player than Phillips. I understand that you have to pay your way to get these players, it was a criticism of over paying for the individual rather than the concept of over paying.
