Gerard Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 I think the way to attract him is a relatively low minimum fee release clause. He comes here to showcase his talents in the "best league in the world" and if you're good enough one of the top 6 will pick you up soon enough. Hopefully he has been told by now by his owners that his options are Leicester City or stay in Brazil. If Leicester assure him that he won't be forced to stay here for the length of his contract if a huge club are willing to pay a £15-20m release clause then he can use us as a stepping stone IF he is good enough. This will sweeten it for him and make him likely to sign because at 26 he probably wants to go to Europe now. It's a great situation for us because we get the player and it improves our chances of finishing higher up the table. If he's a success we make a profit and in a year's time we're in a better position to attract players than what we are today.
4everfox Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 Yes my comment stating we have as much chance of winning the Champions League as Leverkusen wasn't literal as we aren't in the Champions League but it certainly isn't too wide of the mark. The Champions League could potentially be won by about 5 or 6 clubs at a push between now and when Aranguiz retires and neither Leicester nor Leverkusen are one of them.
Itsthejoeker Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 I'm remaining confident on this one. We've seen so much to suggest that he's joining, and very little to link him with BL. The fact the were no rumours coming out of BL of an upped bid and wage offers etc, just tells me he is on his way here.
Molly Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 but he can say he's played in the CL. Offer him a get out clause after 1 year.
Gerard Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 I got up expecting to hear some news after the Friday deadline. Is there nothing coming out of Brazil?
OhBastian Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 Well another morning spent tearing hair out over this haha. If you look at the fact that he has discussed wages etc with our representative, his club announced he was leaving, he missed training to fly to Europe and there has been no other offer accepted by his club...he is surely ours...right? If you look at the fact that his club gave us a deadline of friday to sort it out, the guy who was acting up for us has now said he thinks it is more complicated, his club haven't stated who he is leaving for and the fact that the player has apparently stated he doesn't want to come to England suggests he isn't coming.....right?....
Molly Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 I got up expecting to hear some news after the Friday deadline. Is there nothing coming out of Brazil? Yeah, you wanna snort?
Merging Cultures Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 Hopefully he has been told by now by his owners that his options are Leicester City or stay in Brazil. He would know they are full of BS if they said that though. He'd call their bluff and tell them to wave goodbye to €9.8m. If he plays crap next year, he could be worth nothing. They will want to cash in now as he has had a good season.

4everfox Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 but he can say he's played in the CL. Offer him a get out clause after 1 year. That's what Leverkusen will say. No player with any ambition or self respect will see that as a selling point. Some awful footballers can also say that they have played in the Champions League and will they be remembered? No.
artursteppe Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 That's not true. They have a chance because they are in it. We don't. Therefore they have an infintessimally larger chance than we do. even though we both know that they won't. Infintesimally means very small, tiny!

Infintesimally means very small, tiny! thanks Sven.
Molly Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 Infintesimally means very small, tiny! To be a pedant it would help if you spelt right.

Aranguiz has more to lose than the owners. The owners are probably worth €100m or so, they can afford to wait it out more than the player and they won't be doing him any favours if he's going to lose them €5.2m I remember Emerson going on strike at Middlesbrough. Steve Gibson refused to budge and said we can afford to lose his transfer fee, he can't afford to not work for four years. Leicester isn't that much of a come down from BL. They were fourth in a one team league last season and there were bigger clubs behind them. Our league is more competitive and shown more across the world. It's not like they're forcing him to play for Anzhi Makhachkala. As I said before Leicester need to do something to make it easier for him to get a big move if he's a success and a really big team come knocking. It makes the whole process easier.
gerrytaggart Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 No one has ever fought over me like this. #heartbroken.

I am not sure his third party owners will be worth that much. If they are a company that owns football players, they make money by selling players. If they don't sell, they don't make money. They probably only do a few large deals every couple of years, so I'd imagine they'd like the cash flow. They would also know it takes one injury or bad season and he is worthless. If they are a local businessman who has bank rolled him in his early career, you'd also want to cash in early to recoup your investment. The club however could probably wait it out. But they are probably not that rich either, it is Brazil not England.
AKCJ Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 I'd use Leicester as a stepping stone to a proper Champions League club. LISTEN TO YOURSELF CHRIST. BAYER AREN'T GENK OR SOME OTHER NO MARK, THEY QUALIFIED FOR THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE BY FINISHING IN THE TOP 4 OF (ARGUABLY) A STRONGER LEAGUE THAN THE PREM.

We're trying to sign Charles Aranguiz, not Charles Dickens.
