Merging Cultures Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 And as far as what I would take, I'd push as much as I could for the €15m, but wouldn't jeopardise losing €9.8m either. It's not a €15m or nothing game.
ARM1968 Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 Losing potentially €5.2 million is a big incentive for his owners to push the move. I think he will come. I hope he will. He's what we need.
MGLCFC Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 If the player refuses the contract the businessmen get nothing. They can try to force him to accept the contract. I'm sure they have a lot of leverage. But if he sticks by his guns and says he isn't signing, they wouldn't leave €9.8m on the table. We don't know how much say in the matter the player has. I'd imagine he would have a clause in his contract with his owners saying that a buying club would have to be mutually approved. At least I would. I suppose we are all trying to put 2 and 2 together, when the bottom line is no of us know the complexities of the situation, other than dealings with 3rd parties from Latin America is unlikely to be straight forward.

Just not convinced yet that he will.Losing €9.8m is also a big incentive to ensure they don't chase BL away and get the guy signed by someone.
Matt Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 Again, I reiterate, if he doesn't want to come here but is somewhat forced, do we really want unhappy players here, I would imagine it'll only end one way. I remember going back to the dark days of players not really wanting to be here.
ARM1968 Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 Matt. We sell it to him as a stepping stone. There are bigger clubs than BL who would be in for him if he has a good season or two with us. And the massive wages would surely soften his disappointment.

I remember going back to the dark days of players not really wanting to be here. Not to turn this into a Leicester is shit thread, but which good players really want to play for us? I think the best we can hope for is that we find a good youth player who loves city, failing that we just hope that players want to do well for us in the 'shop window'.
Callabinho Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 He will sign don't worry. He would be stupid to refuse.
tom27111 Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 He will sign don't worry. He would be stupid to refuse. Because football players are notorious for being so intelligent.
4everfox Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 We should just say to the bloke that if he has a good couple of seasons with us he will have the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United after him where he actually has a chance of winning the Champions League, he won't have that chance playing for Bayer Leverkusen because they will never win the Champions League. They will get eliminated at the group stage which makes his desire to player Champions League football pointless if it is with them. Bayer Leverkusen have got about as much chance of winning the Champions League as Leicester have.

To be fair, if he has a good couple of seasons at Bayer Leverkusen those same clubs may still be sniffing... particularly if he shows he's capable in BL's CL games...

Bayer Leverkusen have got about as much chance of winning the Champions League as Leicester have. You have to be in it to win it. So I'd say they have considerably more chance than we do. However, I do understand your point.

gerrytaggart Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 Morning Campers. It transpires his best mate (Marcelo Diaz) who plays for HSV (Hamburg)is praying he signs for Bayer 04 Oooh football friend.
Max Power Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 Just because he'd rather play for a champions league club, doesn't mean if he does come here he's going to mope around and not bother. He's a professional footballer ffs
4everfox Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 I'm just saying that we could sell it to him like that. Challenge him by asking whether he believes he is good enough to play regularly in one of Europe's biggest clubs or whether he really wants to settle playing for a club that will never have any success in Europe. Promise to sell him to one of Europe's elite if he proves himself as he has more chance of grabbing the attention of the world by performing well in 38 games in the most watched league in the world then he does playing 6 pointless games in the Champions League. He probably could get the same interest from bigger clubs playing for Leverkusen but they would be far more reluctant to sell then we would as they are likely to believe they can win a major European trophy.
Guest ttfn Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 This statement just demonstrates the utter ignorance of some people on here. It's true though isn't it? Bayern, Barcelona and Real Madrid look like taking 3 of the 4 semi final spots every year in perpetuity. Leverkusen are 100/1 to win it but they may as well offer 100,000/1 because it's just not going to happen; it's a closed shop.

So I guess BL who will never win it have a better chance.
Guest ttfn Posted 1 August 2015 Posted 1 August 2015 True but we're not even a 1000000/1. So I guess BL who will never win it have a better chance. It's immaterially different though and it's certainly not ignorant to suggest that we have about as much chance of winning It as they do. Neither side has a hope of winning the Champions League in the next 10 years.

The teams you mentioned could face each other in the early knockout stages. Monaco and Porto were incredibly close to making the semis this year. Leverkusen are a million miles ahead of us when it comes to playing in Europe.

Neither side has a hope of winning the Champions League in the next 10 years. That's not true. They have a chance because they are in it. We don't. Therefore they have an infintessimally larger chance than we do. even though we both know that they won't.
