kushiro Posted 21 August 2015 Posted 21 August 2015 The response I always give when anyone asks me "Wigston?! What the hell is Wigston famous for?!" , is "Well, not only was it the home of England kit makers Admiral in the notoriously World Cup shy 1970s, but it's also the home of one of the funniest men who ever lived." What I've never been able to discover is where exactly in Wiggy his family lived. Any help? Road name will do.

He was born in Stoneygate, went school in Melton and lived in Wigston for a couple of years - dunno where, sorry.
DennisNedry Posted 21 August 2015 Posted 21 August 2015 Graham Chapman, of Monty Python fame, lived (around 1951/52) in what was then Wigston police station, (the building on the corner of Pullman Road - opposite the swimming baths) during the time that his father was the inspector there. He attended South Wigston Junior School. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wigston_Magna This is wikipedia so the source may not be 100% trustworthy.
inckley fox Posted 21 August 2015 Posted 21 August 2015 I might be wrong but I think his father worked in either Hinckley or Burbage for some time, and the family spent some time around that way.

Just a couple of years? Oh. That's a bit of a letdown. I'm sure they must have been his most formative years, though. Thanks.
MPH Posted 21 August 2015 Posted 21 August 2015 Wigston? Just a poor mans Oadby. Wrong thread for school boy putdowns, mate.

Fox92 Posted 26 August 2015 Posted 26 August 2015 Legend. I am aware that Chapman and Cleese were the backbone to most of the classic sketches.
Webbo Posted 26 August 2015 Posted 26 August 2015 When I've watched" and now for something completely different" there is an outdoor scene that looks like Uppingham Road to me.

I remain unsure whether I should be concerned or impressed that somebody has a phone book from 1983.

Out Foxed Posted 1 September 2015 Posted 1 September 2015 The porn star Mckenzie Lee is from Wigston, if that makes you feel any better.
