Swalker Posted 24 August 2015 Posted 24 August 2015 Who would you have in your 23 man England squad to face Switzerland and San Marino? Keepers: Hart, Butland, McCarthy Defenders: Clyne, Shaw, Stones, Jagielka, Cahill, Cresswell, Smalling, Gomez Midfielders: Redmond, Albrighton, Barkley, Henderson (should be fit apparently), Milner, Sterling, Barry Strikers: Vardy, Rooney, Defoe, Austin, Kane I've tried to go for players who are playing every week and with decent form. But obviously some (Rooney and Cahill) are too integral too exclude and Kane holds his place for the sole reason that I couldn't think of a better option (Wilson has stood out in one game so I couldn't justify selection based on one game). Anyway, have a go (not as easy as it sounds to name a 23 man squad)
Wymsey Posted 24 August 2015 Posted 24 August 2015 Would probably drop Rooney altogether tbh; out of form and give one of the 'rising' stars a chance.
Swalker Posted 24 August 2015 Author Posted 24 August 2015 Would probably drop Rooney altogether tbh; out of form and give one of the 'rising' stars a chance. I really wanted to but with no glaringly obvious option or proven international goalscorer available (assuming defoe wouldn't start) I had to include him Defoe? Your nuts. Bagged a couple of goals which is more than can be said for most English strikers
Stadt Posted 24 August 2015 Posted 24 August 2015 Weeeuuuul simpson hobbs moore konchesky albrighton drinky hammond dyer fryatt vardy That would probably be more entertaining than watching us labour to a routine 6-0 against San Marino. There's not very many English players in form at the minute, for Switzerland you'd probably go Hart, Shaw, Cahill, Smalling, Clyne, Milner, Carrick, Sterling, Barkley, Ox and Vardy?
Grandad. Posted 24 August 2015 Posted 24 August 2015 Keep Joe Gomez away from the England side, he's playing well at the minute, don't want Hodgson ruining his confidence.
Tincy Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Scott Dann and Jason puncheon deserve to be involved
Jimothy Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Scott Dann and Jason puncheon deserve to be involved Scott Dann definitely when you look at our other centre back options.
Leicesterpool Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Would probably drop Rooney altogether tbh; out of form and give one of the 'rising' stars a chance. I totally would agree, however he's one of the favourites so he can't be dropped. If Hodgson was to drop Rooney I'd really credit him to have the balls.
J.Lisemore Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Unfortunately we haven't got much choice but to take Rooney, everybody knows he's been on the decline for ages but there isn't much better around for us.
Ross-Kemp Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Unfortunately we haven't got much choice but to take Rooney, everybody knows he's been on the decline for ages but there isn't much better around for us.It's not necessarily about having better, I'd much rather have Vardy starting than him because he scares defenders, his pace and constant running causes problems, Rooney only seems to run towards his own goal and now he's lost his yard of pace, he doesn't stretch defenders as much.
Guest NGoloMode Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Seriously think England's captain should be dropped for Jamie Vardy? I know this is a LCFC forum but come on..
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 HART CLYNE----SMALLING----STONES----SHAW MILNER----HENDO BARKLEY VARDY----ROONEY----STERLING or even HART CLYNE----SMALLING----STONES----SHAW HENDO MILNER-----BARKLEY ROONEY STERLING VARDY
General Smuts Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Keepers: Hart, Butland, Ruddy Defenders: Clyne, Shaw, Bertrand, Stones, Jagielka, Cahill, Smalling, Naughton Midfielders: Redmond, Albrighton, Lallana, Sterling, Barkley, Henderson, Mason, Delph Strikers: Vardy, Rooney, Walcott, Berahino
AKCJ Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Hart Clyne Stones Jagielka Bertrand Albrighton Henderson Barkley Sterling Rooney Vardy
Ross-Kemp Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Seriously think England's captain should be dropped for Jamie Vardy? I know this is a LCFC forum but come on..Yep, I'd be stripping him of the captaincy too.He should not be an automatic pick for England, no-one should be. What has Rooney done so far this season? 4 games in, how many goals / assists has he got?
kingfox Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Keepers - Hart, Butland, McCarthy Defenders - Clyne, Jenkinson, Cahill, Smalling, Stones, Jagielka, Gomez, Shaw Midfielders - Puncheon, Sterling, Young, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Henderson, Barkley, Milner, Carrick Strikers - Rooney, Walcott, Vardy, Austin Will probably get Lallana, Ibe, Townsend, Mason & Kane. Meanwhile options at right-back are pretty terrible.
Haydos Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Defoes been good actually, his movement has looked fantastic for his goals, looks very sharp and focused again.
Grandad. Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Looking through the names in this thread is actually quite worrying. Hearing Henderson is out for up to 4 weeks so I would be surprised to see him in the squad, same with Lallana but there has been no date given on his injury.
sdb Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Imagine if players in form were picked! I'm not saying he should be dropped but how much longer does Rooney do sod all for before people realise his best days are way, way behind him?
Guest Posted 26 August 2015 Posted 26 August 2015 I'd just take the U21 squad from here on out and consider it extra training for the 2022 WC.
Guest NGoloMode Posted 26 August 2015 Posted 26 August 2015 Yep, I'd be stripping him of the captaincy too. He should not be an automatic pick for England, no-one should be. What has Rooney done so far this season? 4 games in, how many goals / assists has he got? 5 Premier Leagues, 1 Champions League, 1 Club World Cup and 2 League Cups. He's captain of arguably the biggest team in the world. He's scored about 20 goals a season for the past 10 years. He scored 8 in 13 for England in 2014. 2 goals in 4 in 2015. But yeah.. lets drop one of England's best ever players after 4 poor games and make Gary Cahill captain.
