Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 Barkley always looks clumsy in an England shirt for me, never seems to have the same guile or touch he shows for Everton. Hopefully Smalling has shown enough to overtake Jagielka as second choice centre half and we never have to see or hear of him again. With everyone fit (which they never are, cheers Arsenal) I'd line up with: Hart Clyne-----Cahill-----Smalling-----Bertrand* Henderson-----Milner Wilshere Sterling-----------------------------Ox Rooney *Be nice to see Aaron Cresswell given a run out before the tourny to see how he could fit in.

AKCJ Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 To those whingng about Rooney and how he got his goals.
Grandad. Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 I think 4-2-3-1 is our best formation, 4-3-3 just doesn't work. Hart Clyne Stones Smalling Shaw Milner Henderson Sterling Barkley Ox Rooney That's what I would like to see, obviously you could go Rooney in the 10 with Sturridge/Kane upfront but I want to see Barkley in there and make it his own. Time to pair a new CB pairing for the future and Smalling to be fair is starting to look a good CB, Stones is the future so get him in now. If he can stay fit I would also like to see Wilshire in there ahead of Milner, I really rate Wilshire and for England he rarely fails. God knows, we can pick whatever side we want but Hodgson will still pick the usual faces.
AKCJ Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 Hart Clyne Smalling Cahill Baines Wilshere Carrick Walcott Barkley Sterling Rooney
Dan Posted 10 September 2015 Posted 10 September 2015 Hodgson knows that England are actually semi-competent at stifling better sides - I can't recall losing by more than a single goal to anybody under his reign (no doubt it has happened but it must be a rarity). However I feel that this caution does take a little sting out of our attacking threat; we always seem to set up very deep and although we're spoilt for pace and talent in attacking positions we very rarely appear to actually hurt anybody on the counter. Build up seems so pedestrian at times to the point we're perennially trying to play it through eight opposition bodies on the edge of the area. I appreciate the Roy is working with the weakest pool of players for a considerable stretch, but the Premier League, for all it's faults - is built on pace and aggression (our current side is the embodiment of this). Hodgson's England have the ingredients to be the same but it seldom shows, can't argue with the points tally in these qualifiers, mind. Good post. I think the only one to beat us by two or more were Chile in the friendly at Wembley. I'm not bothered about us trying to recreate what Spain or Argentina can do, I don't feel we've played to our own strengths in years and the fact we're on maximum points in this group doesn't change that. The only game where we looked deadly on the counter was Switzerland away.
Grandad. Posted 1 October 2015 Posted 1 October 2015 Danny Ings and Dele Alli expected to be named in senior squad, no Daniel Sturridge.

kingfox Posted 1 October 2015 Posted 1 October 2015 That time again... Milner Oxlade-Chamberlain Ings Midfield is poor without Henderson & Wilshere, quite surprised he hasn't picked Eric Dier though. Thought he'd include Sturridge or Berahino instead of bloody Danny Ings.
Wymsey Posted 1 October 2015 Posted 1 October 2015 Really not fussed, have a 'meh' feeling towards England nowadays.

Milner Oxlade-Chamberlain Ings Midfield is poor without Henderson & Wilshere, quite surprised he hasn't picked Eric Dier though. Thought he'd include Sturridge or Berahino instead of bloody Danny Ings. Not going involve Sturridge, no need to. Just returned from a serious injury and we have already qualified, why would you call him up? Berahino you would think has something to do with his transfer window antics, otherwise I would of thought he would have been called up. Clearly not seen anything of Danny Ings recently? Been brilliant for Liverpool, not scored a lot but very creative and has worked well with Sturridge, think he'll get a couple tonight v Sion. Won't expect Ings to get game time ahead of Rooney, Kane and Vardy. Especially with the 4-3-3 approach England have. I think we look into squads far too much, just because you're called up it doesn't mean you're going to play, it's just to get you involved, see how things work in the senior side, Alli and Ings are very young, they're going to be nervous, so get them involved and when their time actually comes they won't feel out of place and will be comfortable within the squad.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 1 October 2015 Posted 1 October 2015 Ings has probably been our best striker bar Vardy in those called up, them two up top against Estonia would be magnif. Can't see Vardy starting this time round though

Milner Oxlade-Chamberlain Ings Midfield is poor without Henderson & Wilshere, quite surprised he hasn't picked Eric Dier though. Thought he'd include Sturridge or Berahino instead of bloody Danny Ings. Yeah the lack of Dier is weird, considering he and Alli have picked up some good rep this season so far. Think with that squad, the best starting 11 to test out would be: Hart Clyne Stones Cahill Bertrand Milner Alli Walcott Barkley Sterling Vardy Of course, I'm massively biased , but having Walcott/Vardy/Sterling interchanging at the front....PACE!! Central midfield is a bit difficult to choose...I'd like to see Carrick in there, as he's the closest we have in that squad to a DM, but feel he might be a bit slow if we want to use the pace of our forwards to threaten teams. Milner is no slouch in getting across the park, so I think his energy would be helpful, and give us a chance to see how Alli fits into the team too. Wasn't impressed with Shelvey last time out, but maybe he just needs time. Thoughts?
The Horse's Mouth Posted 1 October 2015 Posted 1 October 2015 Alli is pish, should've stuck with Nigeria

I'd expect to see Kane start after his involvement in the last game, he did well when he came on and definitely changed the game. Maybe him upfront with Rooney deeper. Hart Clyne - Smalling - Cahill - Bertrand Carrick - Milner The Ox - Rooney - Sterling Kane Maybe that v Estonia.
Finnegan Posted 1 October 2015 Posted 1 October 2015 Anyone that'd pick Kane over Vardy is just picking entirely based on reputation. Kane has been poor this season, his bubble looks like bursting. Meanwhile, Vardy has been fantastic so far this season, is out scoring and out performing all of the competition and is absolutely high on confidence. He also has a work rate and pace that England could really do with. First name on the team sheet to be honest.
Finnegan Posted 1 October 2015 Posted 1 October 2015 And as a PS: no I'm not joking, trolling, fishing, needing to calm down, especially biased or having a laugh and I'm definitely not thick. The proof is right in front of everyone's eyes, people just want to tut and roll their eyes because he plays for little Leicester.
ScouseFox Posted 1 October 2015 Posted 1 October 2015 his all round game is a lot better than all our other strikers in terms of what he gives a team and he's now scoring and assisting more than everyone else put together, too. just make him captain an be done with it
AKCJ Posted 1 October 2015 Posted 1 October 2015 He's got to be starting for me. To be honest, if we get someone like Spain or Germany at some point next summer then he has to play. Playing against San Marino where he's got 11 defenders in front of him and he was nullified because his skill isn't taking it round three and whacking it top corner.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 1 October 2015 Posted 1 October 2015 Can't wait to watch Vardy's game completely nullified by Roy's slow, pedestrian football.

So don't act surprised when Vardy doesn't start and if Kane doesn't start comes on ahead of Vardy, just the way it is unfortunately.
Corky Posted 1 October 2015 Posted 1 October 2015 Hahaha Yeah, England selection is so ****ing bent when a player who has scored 10 in 17 Premier League games (including five in four matches) is chosen ahead of someone who has scored no goals this season.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 1 October 2015 Posted 1 October 2015 Hahaha Is he wearing a Slazenger polo
