NewquayFox Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 Keith Weller in the early 1970s in a City shirt was a joy to watch, I'm thinking that Mahrez is beginning to look as entertaining as my all time favourite City player...... Up the City.....
Kitchandro Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 I've always watched clips of Weller and thought how rare it is to see a player, let alone a Leicester player, committed to running at players with such pace and skill and it would be nice to have someone of that ilk again. Mahrez is a joy to watch at the moment, I love it when they put together highlights of his mazy dribbles like Sky did pre-match on Sunday. It's a privilege to see him playing for us every week; there are very, very few players in world football who play with that much flair. I read a read a great article today about how we're putting bigger clubs to shame with how exciting we are! I just hope that we try to carry on that way.
NewquayFox Posted 16 September 2015 Author Posted 16 September 2015 Long may it continue Kitchandro.... Up the City.....
st albans fox Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 Until we see riyad play in white long johns we can never judge
demon_dog Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 They weren't Long Johns! They were tights. I recall being at that game when he first wore them, can't repeat what the fans around me were saying. These days it is known as not politically correct to talk like that!
NewquayFox Posted 16 September 2015 Author Posted 16 September 2015 Norwich at home I think, and Weller scored a cracker...... Up the City....
Lancasterfox Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 I was sitting in a pub last night in mid Lancashire where everyone either supports Utd or lpool and I overheard them talking about the game " yes 2.0 down and they came back and murdered them, they looked fantastic, that Mahrez was too, they look really good, I felt very proud to be an LCFC boy, I used to love watching Weller play and Lenny Glover.

fuchsntf Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 Mahrez as still a long way to go before he can compared with Weller. Weller, did hell of alot at Chelsea , before he came to Leicester. Mahrez, will need to match performances, like Wellers hattrick againts Liverpool (who were then Englands top team) Goal of the decade, against Luton. More importantly Weller , could control a game, and had game awareness. He wasnt just a ball wizard. This doesnt mean Mahrez cant take his crown, but he needs a few more years, and marvellous ball skills behind him. Glover, Sinclair, Goodfellow, may also throw their hats into the discussion. K.Weller was Englands equivilant to G.Best, and many pundits and ex-coaches enjoyed discusding the point. One being Joe Mercer, who many thought should of been a longterm England Manager, and said Weller, Worthington should of already seen 20 caps before he came on the scene. All the best, and I love watching Mahrez, but noway a Weller clone
corbyfox1884 Posted 18 September 2015 Posted 18 September 2015 I was a 13 year old Liverpool 'fan' who , after going to watch Leicester City with Weller and Wortho , never looked back . Weller is my all time favourite . Class act .
Weller in Tights Posted 18 September 2015 Posted 18 September 2015 Can we be sure what they were? image.jpg Stop pinching my picture
Weller in Tights Posted 18 September 2015 Posted 18 September 2015 Love Mahrez, but he needs to keep it up for a couple of seasons for me to consider changing my profile pic.

Up the City..... I was a 13 year old Liverpool 'fan' who , after going to watch Leicester City with Weller and Wortho , never looked back . Weller is my all time favourite . Class act . me too. I was a 7 year old lightweight Liverpool fan and my dad took me to see Leicester v Arsenal at Christmas in 73. 2-0 - I was sold. All those Ws and Lenny Glover - sensational. Although without Shilton we would have been battered. That was it. 40 odd years of misery and joy later I am buzzing like a 7 year old again watching this current team. I can't say I really understood the finer points of football in those days, but there do appear to be similarities between some of those players and the current squad. Would love a Frank Worthington though.
wokinghamfox Posted 18 September 2015 Posted 18 September 2015 I was a 13 year old Liverpool 'fan' who , after going to watch Leicester City with Weller and Wortho , never looked back . B Weller is my all time favourite . Class act . great players and some magic moments.
majaco Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 If I remember correctly, we were on an awful run before the Norwich game. We hammered them 3-0. Did Andy Peake play in the game. I think either he or Dave Buchanan debuted.
Wycombe Fox Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Wasn't there a story to the Weller tights? I'm sure I read that his Mrs had found them in his car and when she accused him of having another woman, KW made the excuse that he was going to wear them to keep his legs warm during a game and had to follow it through.

Nothing worse than a follow through in your tights!
Clever Fox Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Weller was a top top player at a time when there were so many great players around. As said he had the know how to influence games as well as score great goals. Will always remember that liverpool game. To be fair to Mahrez he's only a young lad still learning the game. Thankfully he hasn't had his natural talent coached out of him like a lot of good english kids. Walcot's an example. but watching him glide past players is why we all watch football. Long may it continue in a Leicester Shirt.
Thracian Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Lenny Glover attacked everyone and was a real handful. Going back still further Derek Hogg could turn anyone inside-out, was an excellent crosser and well capable of scoring a goal or two. The best of all? So difficult. To me Glover was the most rousing. He didn't give a toss for anyone's reputation. Fast even with the ball at his feet. Very direct and with lots of end product. But football's changed so much. It's hard to compare the merits of today's players with those of 50 years ago. Mahrez, Weller, Glover or Hogg? I'm just glad to have watched them all.
NewquayFox Posted 19 September 2015 Author Posted 19 September 2015 I remember watching Glover as a kid and he got clattered week in week out but just got up and got on with it, very direct... Up the City........
Jacnah Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Can we be sure what they were? image.jpg the tights are fine but the shorts...........
