Can't help but compare the weekend's performance at Southampton to the previous season's.

Last season's game (Nov 8th) we didn't even have a shot on target and looked so inferior to them, whereas at the weekend we created loads of chances and completely dominated in open play. Fantastic progression and just shows how far we've come.

Better players...

Superior Manager?

Yes. That October-December period was very poor, we totally nullified our attacking threat and just couldn't muster anything out of some winnable matches.

We look an unrecognisable side from March. Please don't go back to that level of performance mixed in with the dull style, we've shown attacking football is the way we'll get results.

That's the thing, the players aren't much better. The odd addition but the core of the side is the same. Plus we had Cambiasso last season

The difference between the two games is totally the way we approached them. We were poor in the first half but not negative. In a way it probably helped that we went 2-0 down earlier, we had no choice but to throw the kitchen sink at them second half and that's what we're the best at.

Completely agree, that's the big thing that I took from Saturday is that when we look to attack teams and put pressure on them, then even a good Southampton side at home couldn't cope with us. And the squad has obviously improved but also the players from last season such as Vardy, Albrighton, Drinkwater, Schlupp and Mahrez look so much better after having a year to get up to speed with the league.

No I genuinely think this season we have better players. The midfield this season is much fitter, stronger, mobile and combative this season. Makes a big difference when we are chasing games.

I tried to say last season this was where we were failing. And still believe it.

Kante has been a great signing. And Drinkwater this season has had the opportunity to shine. Last season he was held back.

I do agree though (and have often said) that many of our players are showing the experience they now have of the division.

There were a few games last season where we were absolutely dominated barely managing a shot, (Swansea away, Southampton away) both come to mind.

This season however we look like we can score against any side we come up against, sort the defending out and it should be a very good season.

Already been said, but to repeat- experience. Last season we spent 3/4 of the season terrified of the oppostion. Now, we no longer believe the Sky Sports bs. Most of the teams are very average.

CL. Believe!

But the different players that we do have now are making a huge difference. Kante, Dyer, Fuchs and Albrighton who was barely used until the last 10 games of the season are complimenting our team very, very well. Vardy was devoid of confidence for the majority of last season and now looks like a man possessed, Mahrez and Drinkwater are on fire. It's also the way we approach game I agree but we've added some real quality that is improving us. We've also other additions waiting in the wings that could given time improve us further.

Kanté is able to defend and cover players. Drinky is fizzing passes as well as covering attacking midfielders. Our midfield is so much better than last season.

I will say that if Drinkwater doesn't stop wasting opportunities from 20-25 yards out then i'm going to get very annoyed with him. He's always been a streaky striker of the ball and I know he's not going to hit the target all the time but some of his efforts when he could have controlled the ball and used it more effectively are abysmal. Other than that he's bob on this season.

I think that's very clear.

The midfield now has energy. It's not 'classy'. Kante and Drinkwater are not as composed on the ball as Cambiasso.

But that doesn't matter...and for me this is (and always has been) the point.

Our central midfield doesn't have to be classy. Now, we win the ball and give it. Kante and Drinkwater will track back, tackle..and give it to Mahrez, Albrighton and now Dyer to begin the attack again. That's what their role is.

Last season we got exposed in the central midfield area time after time due to not being quick enough, strong enough or mobile enough.

THAT was where Cambiasso could be a liability IMO.

I agree with you on this and always have done.

That period of the season was horrible to watch, we was a completely different team.

Too defensive, dodgy tactics and vulnerable substitutions from NP.

We are definitely a team that needs to play on the attack, proved it in the championship and is proving it the start and end of last season and so far this season.

I try not to use the C-word in posts it doesn't end happily.

I wasn't happy with the sacking of Pearson like the majority but the change in manager imo has made the most difference.

With Pearson he would never give the more gifted players the freedom they required and was always dragging our top players off around the 60/70 min mark.

One big difference between the two is the way Ranieri manages the team, isn't afraid to make critical subs when required and allows the better players more time and freedom on the pitch and also has belief that they will make a difference.

Plus with the addition of Kante and Dyer our midfield looks a lot better.

Usual suspects getting in their thinly veiled digs at Cambiasso....Crazy.

Major reason that we're top 5 this season and bottom five last season is the midfield. You keep those glasses on.

Most have said it, but experience. I also think the re-emergence of Danny Drinkwater has been almost like a new signing. Last season - I think he struggled to play a different role alongside Cambiasso. He has to be given responsibility of the ball. Kante is perfect for him to just break play up, give it to Danny, and bang we're on the attack again.

One thing I noticed in the press conference after was that CR said we had to go and attack being 2 down we would rather lost 4-0 and try then 2-0 and not. I don't think you would ever of heard NP say that.

Have to agree about Danny. Before last season I stated he was going to be one of our star players in the Prem and thanks to selection and form he disappointed. Glad to see he's been given a chance and taken it wholeheartedly this season.

He didn't cost much either!
