SPOTY 2015

Vardy is currently joint 6th favourite with Rooney (I'm guessing because he broke the England record)

Ennis-Hill is the favourite, she won the heptathlon gold at the worlds to add that to her Olympic and World title. I don't think anyone has held all three. Murray is second favourite, which you've already mentioned. Fury third and Hamilton fourth, both you've mentioned. Then it's Rooney and Vardy at between 20/1 to 33/1.

Spose that's about right really, obviously we're gonna be bias towards Vardy but it is a great feat that he's reached, I forgot about Rooney breaking the England record aswell.

At 33/1 might worth an each way bet.

Hasn't SPOTY been voted for in recent years? If it's the case this year we all need to get voting for Vardy! lol

Wouldn't say interested, it's just the fact it's rammed down your throat and you can't get away from it every time Wimbledon rolls around, I know I can get easy bites so if i'm gonna have to put up with back to back Wimbledon wankfest I may aswell have abit of fun with it. lol

Wimbledon is an event that's protected against being taken by subscription services, so nobodies shoving it down your throat, people have sat down and decided it's along side the World Cup, Rugby World Cup, FA Cup final, British GP, Olympics and other major events as something that should be available free for us all to watch. Other people will hate football or rugby or F1, but they just have to put up with same as you should do Wimbledon. TV isn't your own personal service, sometimes it might show shit you don't like.

Isn't winning this type of competition gives other consideration - apart from doing well in Sport - such as off-field behaviour?

The 'Jap' incident might affect his chances if so.

giggs won it and he cheated on his wife with half of wales including most of his own family

I think he won before all that came out.

I don't know who came 2nd and 3rd but it must have been a pretty weak year for true contenders.

IIrc there was a campaign amongst Man U fans to fix the result. That's why you have to be nominated now.

When Giggs won it, it pissed me off. Same as when McCoy won it and same as if Rooney gets nominated this year. Giggs was nominated for winning more league titles than anyone else, McCoy for setting a record for the most champion jockey titles and Rooney will be for breaking the England scoring record. These are all career achievements, not something they've achieved over that particular year. Give them a lifetime achievement award and let the years most successful athletes compete for the main prize.

He was still nominated by the panel. They get a group of ex sportsmen and women, and I think some journalists, and they compile a list. It used to be papers voted for their top ten and the ten with the most overall votes make the up the final 10. So Man U fans would have had no say over Giggs making the final 10, but obviously would have been able to vote for him in droves on the night.

McCoy won the national which he'd been trying to do for about 20 years. He was also the most clear cut winner in terms of votes and percentages for years.

Stand corrected on McCoy then. But the percentage of votes thing is hardy anything to crow about, you just get obsessives voting over and over to get their favourite to win in these situations, and when it's someone's one and only chance, they are even more likely to skew the vote.

Point still stands for Giggs and Rooney, and for that matter McCoys potential nomination this year.

Kind of hope it's not Murray.

Such a dull bloke, the type who rarely smiles.

But it's not about who's the most happy go lucky person, otherwise the same person would win every year. It's about sporting achievements.

Plus he's actually quote a funny bloke if you actually listen to some of his interviews away from the court. Seems up for a laugh away from tennis.

The 12 nominations have been named now:

Lizzie Armitstead

Lucy Bronze

Jessica Ennis-Hill

Chris Froome

Mo Farah

Lewis Hamilton

Andy Murray

Adam Peaty

Greg Rutherford

Kevin Sinfield

Max Whitlock

Andy Murray

Tyson Fury

I'd fancy the top 3 to be something like

1.Ennis

2.Murray

3.Fury/Froome
