Guest MattP Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 Muhammed Ali won the Sports Personality of the Century award and his views were far more controversial than Fury's.
Matt Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 SNP have started bleating on about he should be dropped....Makes me want him to win it even more, G'won Tyson. The whole ceremony is a farce anyway given the shortlist.
purpleronnie Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 People can't see this is all to do with selling tickets? He wants to become the anti hero, he was never going to be the peoples champion was he? Should take it all with a pinch of salt, but that's not possible in these reactionary times.
Super_horns Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 I would say before he became a public "celeb" no-one seemed that bothered about his views did they? He's hardly going to change them (rightly or wrongly) now...
Footballwipe Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 SPOTY, wish it was done and dusted within 30 minutes Lineker "Good evening, it's 8pm and welcome to SPOTY 2015, let's not piss about. The nominees for Coach of the year are... "And the winner is.... PERSON (repeat until main award) "The nominees for SPOTY are... "The winner is PERSON" That's all from this year's awards, next up at 8:30pm it's Countryfile. Happy Christmas. Goodbye.
Bettsj2 Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Fury is right in what he says. He's achieved possibly the highest accolade in sport against the odds and he's certainly more interesting than the other nominees this year and the winners from previous years.

It's hilarious, he's not even subtle about boiling piss yet still succeeds everytime.

Harsh, he has the biggest following of any British boxer since Hatton.
purpleronnie Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Harsh, he has the biggest following of any British boxer since Hatton. Well that's just it, they'll be people happilly following him because he's a top British boxer, others who like to follow the 'bad boy' and others who will tune in to watch him fail. It's all money in his pocket. And people fall for it. Very smart on his part.

I just think he is showing us exactly who he is, he's always been like it, it's not something he's started to do recently. His rant at Bellew and Price that got him fined showed that and no one was paying to watch him fall then.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 I don't understand why people still watch this. It has to be the most boring thing on television.
Webbo Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Pre Sky this was 1 of the best shows on the telly with clips of all the major sports and champions and a review of the year. Now all you get is a photograph so they have to fill the time with boring interviews. I haven't watched it for years.

I thought it was great in the 80's and 90's and I used to really look forward to watching it. I think the problem is that it's got a big too big for it's boots and too commercial (big stadium audiences, calling it SPOTY etc.) They've messed about with the format so many times and introduced too many crappy awards that use up the time previously devoted to actually showing sporting clips. I'm sure the BBC's lack of live coverage these days has got something to do with it. If you look at what they've got the rights for now compared to 25 years ago it's piss poor really.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 It's pretty ironic calling it the Sports Personality of the Year award when Andy Murray is the favourite to win.
Raj Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Like Tyson Fury is really bothered about sinning this shite after becoming heavyweight champion of the world!!! As others have said... It's just pure crap!!
Nalis Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Anyone that sounds like Craaaaaig Daaaavid gets my vote.
Jimothy Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 It's pretty ironic calling it the Sports Personality of the Year award when Andy Murray is the favourite to win. "The BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award is the main award of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony, which takes place each December. The winner is the sportsperson, judged by a public vote, to have achieved the most that year." Where does that say you having be the funniest, happy go lucky sports person? If that were the case, the same person would win every year. Also Murray is pretty funny bloke if you watch interviews with him away from the court.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 17 December 2015 Posted 17 December 2015 It's pretty ironic calling it the Sports Personality of the Year award when Andy Murray is the favourite to win. He should win Corpse Personality of the Year
Alf Bentley Posted 17 December 2015 Posted 17 December 2015 At the risk of becoming a figure of ridicule like whoever started the "My mate's the ref" thread..... My cousin's on the panel for this (Tim Hallissey, Sports Editor of The Times). I spoke to his Dad (my uncle) a couple of days ago and asked him to tell his son off for not including Vardy. My uncle, a big cricket fan, said that he'd already given him a bollocking for not including a cricketer.
Matt Posted 20 December 2015 Posted 20 December 2015 Vardy got 2 seconds credit then! It's something I guess. I'm hoping they do abit of a thing about him in that case. Gary's perhaps shoehorned it in.

Matt Posted 20 December 2015 Posted 20 December 2015 It's just started and he made the opening montage, how can you moan at that? That what i'm saying, he's got 2 seconds credit. Atleast they have acknowledged him and i'm hoping because of the montage he might get a mention/montage later in the programme, please don't think I was moaning about it, you have got the wrong end of the stick if you thought I was. The 'It's something I guess' comment was aimed at him not being nominated but apart from that I can't see anything negative in what I posted.

It was the just the comment that he got two seconds like you thought 2 minutes into the show that was all he'd get. I'm hoping city get a decent mention, football team of the year surely?
