With Ennis favourite and Root not even nominated it makes a joke of the whole award.

Surely the fact that 'personality' is in the title makes it a joke, it isn't, nor seemingly will ever be, about that

Just noticed this, wtf. Automatically assumed he was in.

Wins an Ashes, becomes the number one batsman in the World and is behind Peaty, Whitlock, Bronze etc?

Even Stuart Broad with 8-15 in an Ashes Test isn't considered.

Root or Cook should be in at the very least.

Never has been about personality, in this sense the personality just means person.

This, it's political correct nonsense to please the idiots, it's been going on for years at this event now. It wouldn't surprise me if they even went to the length of giving the England womens the team award over the David Cup side.

It's a tough choice for the winner mind, Ennis-Hill, Murray and Fury all more than deserving of the accolade, I'd like to see Fury win just to see the speech, it would be everything they hate and that's probably why he won't win.

Precisely why at 40/1, I couldn't resist sticking some money on it. It's obvious to anyone with an ounce of brain matter, that the Davis Cup team should win the team award, but knowing what the BBC are like, you seriously can imagine the women's football team getting it.

Joe Root not nominated for Sports Personality of the year.  Weird.

Hopefully a wake-up for cricket about how lack of terrestrial coverage is affecting its standing in the wider sporting world. That said, for a panel of experts in the field not to consider him worthy is ridiculous.

The more I think about the more I agree,

Murray has just single handidly won a World Cup we hadn't won since 1936 and Fury has just dethroned the undisputed World Champion who hasn't been beaten for over ten years. How is she favourite?

Murray's cumulative price for winning all 8 of his singles games is less than evens. I wouldn't get too excited about his achievements.

Nothing to do with that at all, just the BBC making a stupid decision, Tyson Fury's fight was on Sky Box Office and it stop him being nominated.

A swimmer and a gymnast are in it.

They do cover cricket on Radio 4 LW and 5 Live Sports Extra so the BBC does have some rights to broadcast.

Vardy has broken a record of 12 years in one of the biggest sporting leagues in the world. Lucy Bronze has made the list for scoring a couple of goal for England at the Women's World Cup. He's much more deserving of a spot than her for example.

You are aware the BBC are probably the only media outlet that promotes women's football, therefor has to include at least one on the short list.

No one watches it, no ones interested in it yet they constantly bang on about it.

I thought the final list was poor really, most could've been on 2012's list, shows a poor sporting year really, they extended it to include Murray and Fury so why wasn't JV included? After all he broke a long standing premier league record.

Only reason Vards didnt get a shout is because it's based on the achievements within the year, rather than a portion of it

Was that portion not within the year then? lol

oh yeah lucy bronze has been performing week in week out not just that two weeks when they were on tele and anyone gave a shit

and tyson fury has fought klitschko 365 times this year not just a portion of it

.

A swimmer and a gymnast are in it.

TBF they have done very well in their own right winning World championships but clearly a cricketer would be more high profile to the general public even though it's not on free to air.

If Ennis wins it will be because she's the BBCs poster girl and nothing else.

Her achievements don't match those of Fury and Hamilton.

Totally disagee,

She is well worthy, took all medals put in front of her over 10 years.

In 7 disciplines dont forget.

Plus she has a talking dachshund, which trains with her..!!!!

Are you being dense on purpose? If a footballer is going to win this award it's going to be consistency through the year, rather than a boom period over a few months.

You mean like Lucy Bronze and her decent World Cup?

Anyway people are often nominated for breaking records or a particularly good performance. Breaking a 12 year old record in the top league of our national sport should be a gimme for a nomination.

Not to mention equalling an 80 year record.

They're not the same though, the men's game will always need to match a much higher level to get a look in than the women's. I'm not even arguing against Vardy, I'm merely saying the reason he didn't get the nod is because he hasn't be consistent throughout the calender year and I'd imagine the racial incident probably prevented him getting the nod too.
