Jimothy Posted 29 October 2015 Posted 29 October 2015 Froome will have to get over the 'he's not British argument' before he wins it. Although we did once give it Greg Rusedski - wtf! He will have to win it a third time and hope nobody else does anything that year. Shows how far British sport has come when in 1997 when Rusedski won it was basically because he reached the us open final, three years ago Murray came third after winning the us open and Olympic gold! I wouldn't have thought being born outside of Britain would hinder Froome though, Farah has come close before, Barry McGuigan is bloody Irish and he won! But there certainly seem to be something against Froome, given how in recent years cycling fans have voted in such numbers to have two winners one of which was Cavendish, who really didn't deserve it. Froome only came 5th after winning the tour!

I can't see anyone but Ennis winning it this year, she's a woman, popular and won something after childbirth, everything you need for a win in this day and age.
goose2010 Posted 29 October 2015 Posted 29 October 2015 1, Root 2, Hamilton 3, Cook England cricket team will win team.

I know they are eligible, I said that earlier, I was replying to Renarts post about getting past the being born outside Britain hurdle.
Darkon84 Posted 29 October 2015 Posted 29 October 2015 Welsh clean sweep, Bale and the national team. Actually have to say, despite hating them almost as much as I hate the first team, I'd give England B the team of the year award and give Michael O'Neil the coach award (there's a coach award right?) The fact they've qualified is beyond brilliant. You could argue that Wales have underachieved for a long time and we shouldn't be surprised we've qualified. NI however? ****ing miracle. Basically Britain's pub team. It's like Boston United making the FA Cup Final... (or even just the FA Cup proper tbh Boston.) The Northern Ireland side definitely deserve some sort of recognition, you're not wrong there. Besides, the 'England B team' are the Republic, rather than the North. On a side note, why do you hate Northern Ireland so much?
Finnegan Posted 29 October 2015 Posted 29 October 2015 We went through a period of playing them seemingly every year. Back to back qualifying campaigns then that ill fated home nations thing. They were just the scummiest bunch of cvnts to ever visit Cardiff and I include our own fans fighting each other in that. Had infinitely more trouble with them than with England, rucks everywhere round the city. Gave Big John dogs abuse just for playing for the wrong Scottish football club. Absolute retards. Basically an away end full of the sort of pricks that commute to Glasgow several times a year to give Rangers a shit reputation. Absolute mouth breathing wankers. Make Leeds look lovely. Always a dirty bunch of cheating, time wasting twats on the pitch as well. Will never forget Savage getting sent off for getting back to his feet after being floored.
Super_horns Posted 29 October 2015 Posted 29 October 2015 Ennis fr me - she will get the female vote and I think of all the likely contenders she will get the biggest publicity. Froome and Farah must have a chance as well. Ladies footballers to win Team award?

Hardly surprising, it must be hard to support a nation where a significent porportion of people that surround you don't want to even exist.
RonnieTodger Posted 29 October 2015 Posted 29 October 2015 1, Root 2, Hamilton 3, Cook England cricket team will win team. They only deserve to be nominated if they specify the test team. The world cup was disgraceful. Tai Woffinden at least deserves a nomination.
AKCJ Posted 29 October 2015 Posted 29 October 2015 Even the test team weren't that great. They profitted from the Aussies being piss poor rather than being too good.
Finnegan Posted 29 October 2015 Posted 29 October 2015 They only deserve to be nominated if they specify the test team. The world cup was disgraceful. Tai Woffinden at least deserves a nomination. 99.9% of the people voting won't even know who Woffinden is without Google.
RonnieTodger Posted 29 October 2015 Posted 29 October 2015 99.9% of the people voting won't even know who Woffinden is without Google. Probably not, but some right poverty sports get nominations. Double world champion at 25 deserves one.

Fair enough then, sounds like it was the same as always, one group of muppets ruining it for everyone else. Wasn't all that about 10 years ago anyway, and the Welsh all booed GSTQ in the same round of games? The booing and abuse happens, that's what happens sometimes, I'm not going to complain about Savage getting booed when he played for us, he was that sort of player, as was Hartson, Vinny Jones etc. The fighting though, is unacceptable, and again, just a group of w*nkers ruining it for everyone else.
Finnegan Posted 30 October 2015 Posted 30 October 2015 I'd have no issue with them booing Hartson for anything legitimate. I have no problem with England fans booing Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, I have no problem with our fans booing GSTQ. What I object to is the knuckle dragging cvnts bringing their hateful sectarian "politics" to Cardiff. They're Irish football fans, he's a Welsh footballer, they're kicking off because he happens to play for a Scottish football club that wears the wrong colour? **** that.

Do you they are kicking off because he played for Celtic or because he was caught on camera singing pro-IRA songs? I'm sure other Welsh players who have turned out for Celtic like Bellamy wouldn't get the same treatment as Hartson.
Finnegan Posted 30 October 2015 Posted 30 October 2015 Yeah Bellers got a bit of stick. Matthews never gets a game.
Renart Posted 5 November 2015 Author Posted 5 November 2015 The overseas award for SPOTY 2016 will be awarded based on a public vote. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/sports-personality/34727485 Who will be on the shortlist and who do you think will win it? I would like Richie McCaw or Dan Carter to win it. Really the whole NZ rugby team should get a special recognition but I don't think that they can win the Team of the Year award, although the West Indies cricket team did win it in 1963?
Matt Posted 29 November 2015 Posted 29 November 2015 Jamie Vardy. Gotta be nominated at the very least surely? It's not exactly been a vintage year for British sport has it? I can't think of too much. (SPOTY is only for British sportspeople isn't it? Obviously there are overseas awards) The only people that spring to mind for me are; Hamilton winning the F1. Dreary Murray and the tennis bullshit that is going on at the moment (Although isn't that a team event? Therefore they'd get team of the year? Or is also a single event, not really interested in the shitest of shite sports) Tai Woffinden as has already been mentioned Fury after last night, but i'm sure many people will have something to say about that, personally I like him and think he's done great. and our very own Vardy. When are the nominations announced?

Should think being the first GB team to win the Davis Cup in 79 years will guarantee the team award for GB Tennis, but I think the overall single winner is anyones game.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 29 November 2015 Posted 29 November 2015 vardy should definitely win this I think he should too, would be amazing. Had Kane achieved this feat they would just give it to him now

When are the nominations announced? Vardy is currently joint 6th favourite with Rooney (I'm guessing because he broke the England record) Ennis-Hill is the favourite, she won the heptathlon gold at the worlds to add that to her Olympic and World title. I don't think anyone has held all three. Murray is second favourite, which you've already mentioned. Fury third and Hamilton fourth, both you've mentioned. Then it's Rooney and Vardy at between 20/1 to 33/1.

Wouldn't say interested, it's just the fact it's rammed down your throat and you can't get away from it every time Wimbledon rolls around, I know I can get easy bites so if i'm gonna have to put up with back to back Wimbledon wankfest I may aswell have abit of fun with it.
