Indoor Plants

Ok my new flat is pretty bare. Loads of beige and white. Sorta like a kid who doesn't give a shit lives there and isn't planning on staying long. Got the standard posters and a few photo frames in my bedroom and stuff but wanna smash a nice, funky looking plant in the living room.

Cheap, doesn't wanna be looked after like an actual live creature and looks sexy. Was thinking of a cool cactus but hello there is about 9 thousand types of cacti.

Anyone any tips or ideas.

Yep, I've lived in one or two places where it grew on the walls.

At least you would never go hungry, heating or eating wouldn't be such a difficult choice.

My old flatmate had a massive cactus that he put in the living room. I fell over after a night out and I knocked it over. It landed on my face and chest and I screamed. It was ****ing agony. The next morning, I'm still feeling tender I pick up the shirt I was wearing and get 1000 of the needle things in my hand (yes I am a bit stupid).

Don't get a cactus.

What about a fish tank

i looked into this but a plant or a selection of pretty cool plants is a lot cheaper and easier to maintain. still an option though. do you have fish?

Plants are pretty gay just get like a coffee table or something.

Are you near an Ikea? Loads of cheap easy houseplants there.

Fish tanks are great but not that cheap to do properly and take a bit of looking after

Get a standard spider or yukka plant, they clean the air and no hassle. Only probs if you have a cat cause they eat and sit on them

Fish tanks are pointless to me, theres no fun in having trapped, near inanimate creatures swim around a box all day that buzzes and costs to run.

Just get a snow globe or lava lamp tbh tho

Most indoor plants need a lot of bright light but not direct sunlight.  A bright room or window sill.  That's not always easy when in a flat, if it's pointing in the wrong direction.

Without decent light, most plants will struggle.  You may be able to keep them alive but they won't grow & be healthy.

Some plants I can think of that are reasonably easy to care for & widely available.  Devils ivy, weeping fig, schefflera, rubber tree plant, areca palm, Mother-in-laws tongue.

I don't like them but a Peace Lily is useful to have if you're not sure when to water plants.  They will quickly start sagging when needing water but soon recover.  A good indicator of when to water your plants.

They need feeding occasionally, repotting occasionally, leaves misting/cleaned.

House plants can be a complete pain in the arse & if they're not looked after they can look worse than not having any plants at all.
