fuchsntf Posted 13 December 2015 Posted 13 December 2015 Not found a relevant thread....So Gordon Banks...family reports he is sufferring from deadly kidney cancer. All positive thoughts and good luck in your battle to fight the big C. Thanks for being a major part of our history, I was sorry you were allowed to leave at the time, 2-3 seasons too early, but there was a young guy biting at the bit.
Guest Bilo Posted 13 December 2015 Posted 13 December 2015 Get well soon. Banks of England has to be up there with the greatest goalkeepers of them all.
Guest Posted 13 December 2015 Posted 13 December 2015 possibly the greatest City player ever. Certainly one of the greatest England keepers ever. Arguably one of the greatest world goalkeepers ever. best wishes Gordon.

Buzzell Posted 13 December 2015 Posted 13 December 2015 God damn cancer strikes again. All the best to him. Get well soon Banks.
leicsmac Posted 13 December 2015 Posted 13 December 2015 You'd be hard pressed to name five better keepers in world history. Yashin, Zoff and that's about it. I'd say him and Yashin were on a par as the best ever. Get better soon!
Kitchandro Posted 13 December 2015 Posted 13 December 2015 Poor bloke. Read the bbc article, they're referring to him as a former Stoke player. No mention of Leicester at all. Yes our club should do more to honour him and his great achievements whilst with us, we should definitely have a statue. But it's no excuse for the media who should be recognising him as our player. Good luck Gordon, a real legend.
Guest Posted 13 December 2015 Posted 13 December 2015 You'd be hard pressed to name five better keepers in world history. Yashin, Zoff and that's about it. I can't remember Yashin but for me Banks is slightly ahead of Dino Zoff and Sepp Maier.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 13 December 2015 Posted 13 December 2015 Hope you win this battle Banksy! Get well soon.
Len Finsbury Posted 13 December 2015 Posted 13 December 2015 If anyone was deserving of a statue out side the ground, it's him. How many other Leicester players have won a world cup?
Thracian Posted 13 December 2015 Posted 13 December 2015 Wish him nothing but the best. Saw him play for for us on many occasions and have a signed picture of his stunning save from Pele in the 1970 World Cup defeat by Brazil hanging in my home. Hope he pulls off something just as special from his latest test.
The Blur Posted 13 December 2015 Posted 13 December 2015 Wishing him a speedy recovery. Banks' autobiography was amongst my favourite football autobiographies.
Wymsey Posted 13 December 2015 Posted 13 December 2015 Very sad. I had had spoken him 1-2-1 a few times at the football as he used my Father's/Uncle's business which had sponsored the club for years. A true gentleman, and wish him all the very best for a speedy recovery.
shen Posted 13 December 2015 Posted 13 December 2015 I'd say him and Yashin were on a par as the best ever. Get better soon! You'd be hard pressed to name five better keepers in world history. Yashin, Zoff and that's about it. And here I thought there was very little footage of Yashin. I certainly have not seen anywhere near enough to class him as one of the best ever. If it weren't for the Lev Yashin award, I doubt many will have even heard of him. I think Kahn, P. Schmeichel and Buffon deserve to be considered as equals to Zoff, Banks and possibly Yashin.
Spudulike Posted 13 December 2015 Posted 13 December 2015 If anyone was deserving of a statue out side the ground, it's him. How many other Leicester players have won a world cup? The statue outside the Britannia Stadium is modeled on an image from the '66 World Cup..... when he was an LCFC player. It's situated in the wrong place. Get well soon, our Gordon. LCFC legend.
glenelgfox Posted 14 December 2015 Posted 14 December 2015 If anyone was deserving of a statue out side the ground, it's him. How many other Leicester players have won a world cup? This - Legend!
Voll Blau Posted 14 December 2015 Posted 14 December 2015 Best wishes to him, hope for a speedy recovery. The original 'Sheffield lad done good' for Leicester...
Jordan Posted 14 December 2015 Posted 14 December 2015 I've always thought it seems odd and even a bit of a shame how Banks was seemingly just forgotten about by LCFC after they let him go. He's clearly a legend, and he also always come across as a gentleman every time I've heard him speak. I never hear anyone say anything but good things about him. What Stoke have done for him over the years is classy. I wish "Banks of England" all the best in his fight!
Guest Posted 14 December 2015 Posted 14 December 2015 I found it such a shame that after finishing his career he needed to become a driving instructor. Can you imagine Wooney having to do the same?
Guest Bilo Posted 14 December 2015 Posted 14 December 2015 We really do need to have a statue of Banks outside the stadium - I'd love this one with Shilts.
