New Expectations

I don't understand people saying we'll never get a better chance to win the league, surely if we get too four and get a shed load of CL money, we will have an even better chance to win the league then we do now? With the power to attract better players and added experience to the squad we currently have.

is that a man city fans perspective?

If I were Ranieri, I would be careful on putting another points total on in. If he does then I would think he would have looked at the 70 points mark as being a good number.

Setting a target of staying in top 4 or 5 maybe or perhaps he will set a number of wins (10+) etc.

The 40 point target has been stroke of genius from him though, with having the players brutally focused on reaching that. Be interesting to see his next move and if he is so open about the new target!

I was thinking what his next target would be and i think it will be a points target again ..... say 60 ..... so they have a short term target to aim at rather than an end of season target .... it would nicely avoid the question of what we are trying to achieve and keep the pressure off while still keeping the focus .... and if we achieved it with say 8 games to go then his next target would be 4 wins .... I don't think he'll come out and say a position at any point until maybe that last few games.

I think next target is 55 points to match our best ever PL haul, I doubt he would start targeting positions as that leaves room for failure, we aim for 55 points and to be the most successful Leicester side in PL history, then we reassess.

Agree with both of you, points target would make more sense.

Anything less then finishing with 65-70 points now would be disappointing now, 27 point need for 70 which we would only require mid table form for at around 1.5pts per game.

Ranieri a clever old fox, he keep aying the right things

I hope we beat that, because if not it going to be a really poor second half of the session, we would have to perform like newcastle, Sunderland and Villa to miss that target!

Of course, but that sort of a drop in form is very possible, we did it ourselves not that long ago...

It is better to set achievable targets, beat them, then set the next target, focussing on 40 points has kept the pressure off, because even if we lose a couple our target is still achievable, if you start saying we are aiming for top 4, then we set ourselves up to fail and if we do lose a couple of games panic sets in, focussing on the points tally rather than our position will, hopefully, keep the players grounded and focussing on the job in hand, rather than looking too far ahead at CL/Top 4/the title.

The new expectation honestly should just be "three points at a time". Anything else would be the media trying to set this club up to fail and pounce.

I think the aim has to be top four now and I never thought I'd say that. Anything less and I'd be disappointed now as we would have to break another record to finish outside the top four. I find it highly improbable that we will ever get another chance like this so we need to grab it with both hands. If we finished 5th now I'd be heartbroken as well as proud but the club have dangled the carrot in front of me and I want a taste of it.

It's a good competition and English clubs are the only ones daft enough not to take it seriously. It will be a big reason for us losing our fourth CL spot to Italy in the next two or three seasons. I'd be delighted to see us in it, as I was to be in its predecessor in 1997 and 2000. We're Leicester City. We really can't turn our noses up at any sort of European competition. It doesn't happen often enough for us to have that privilege.

I can understand that. I just think its the reason why your Liverpools and Spurs have a top four barrier - playing on a Thursday night in Zazaland, flying back knackered with injuries for a game at the weekend isn't where I want Leicester to be with the depth in quality we rely on.

true although giving the players the 40 target seemed to have really worked well, so would it be foolish not to set a new points target? I guess we wouldn't know either way until end of the season. I think he might play the safe route and say we want a top 6 finish and leave it ambiguous

My expectations? To win the PL.

Do I think we will? No, probably not.

Would I take second place now if offered? Absolutely not.

That's probably very naive of me but fuck it, in for a penny in for a Pound.

At the end of the day, it's the players on the field that decide the outcome, and right now Leicester is fielding the best starting XI. If the team is healthy and intact at the end of January, it's our title to lose. Not having to play in europe, or in the Capital one cup may turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

What do you say to other fans when talking about the league?

I normally say we won't the league, and that I'm just enjoying the ride, I predicted a draw against Everton and Chelsea and would have been very happy with those results.

I normally make a few jokes about us winning the league, but when pushed I say it has been fantastic but all we have done is given ourselves a fantastic start and a great chance at a great season.

I realise this is not our American fans' fault as that's how they say it, but it really irks me when I read "*Team Name* is" rather than "*Team Name* are". Can this be autocorrected? :P

At the stage now where I say I'd be disappointed with finishing any lower than 6th as it's mean we're hitting bottom half/relagation form for half a season.

If I were jealous of one team in my lifetime it would be Mike Walker's Norwich team who came ever so close to being champions - they came third - and the following year defeated Bayern Munich in the UEFA Cup. Only they don't have the UEFA Cup any more, so it would have to be the Champion's League. I could go with that. And they managed to do all that with a shit manager. We've got Claudio.

I've just considered the possibility of us continuing our run and winning the next 2 games and tonight's game being a draw!

Should these 3 results come to fruition we would be on 44 points, half way through the season and at least 8 points clear of Man City and at least 4 clear of Arsenal! Just try and imagine that!

I think at this point it would have to be relegation form for us not to get top 7 at this point, 2 months ago i think all of us would of taken anything in the top10, i think now we have to be looking to get top4.

Depending on your age the highest you would have seen Leicester finish would be 8th, 7th or 6th (going back in time)

So everyone should be absolutely delighted with a 6th place equal best finish or witness an outstanding 5th place triumph.

If you expect anything higher, please don't get your hopes up too soon and just enjoy these moments as there is a long, long way to go yet.

I think this is our best route to winning it.

Beat Man City and keep getting results and suddenly find ourselves 10pts clear after Man City and Arsenal stutter.

Then hold on for dear life.

If we can get through to the middle of February and still be top our next nine games are all winnable.

:xmaslaugh:

I blame you all for this terrible language you've spread across the world. The English invented rules that are followed only some of the time. There are words that are spelled the same way but pronounced differently.

I'm not sure if it's true throughout America, but around here if you use the city's name (which is singular) we use "is," and if you use the team's name (if it's plural) then we use "are." So "Leicester is going to win the league. The Foxes are unbeatable."

It sounds awkward to start a sentence with "Leicester are ......"

This is a Football forum, with no prizes for the correct use of notional agreement, why the stress.?
