Koke Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 If Morgan had raced back and made that identical challenge on Josh King, and was subsequently sent off for it as well, people here would lose their nut over it and rage against the ref. It's amazing of how biased football fans can be. I hope Francis get the red card rescinded.
CORNFOX68 Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 Have seen it mentioned before he definitely put his hand on vardys shoulder he definitely caught him as he went for ball penalty imo
davieG Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 Bournemouth unlikely to appeal Simon Francis' red card Eddie Howe says Bournemouth are unlikely to appeal against the controversial red card picked up by Simon Francis at Leicester City. The Bournemouth captain was harshly sent off by referee Andre Marriner for his last-ditch tackle on Jamie Vardy during the goalless draw at the King Power Stadium on Saturday. Television replays showed Francis got to a touch on the ball during his sliding challenge on the Leicester striker in the 57th minute. Marriner showed the Bournemouth defender a straight red and pointed to the penalty spot but Riyad Mahrez was denied by a save from Arthur Boruc. Howe, whose team next play Birmingham in the FA Cup on Saturday, believes it was the wrong call and sought out Marriner after the match. "There wasn't any aggression. I was asking him about suspensions and potential ways we could minimise any bans," said Howe. "I do believe we would appeal it if he was due a three-game ban. But I am told it is just one game so with the FA Cup coming up, it is not too bad for us. "For me it wasn't a penalty. Simon has come from the side and got a clear touch on the ball. It is not a penalty or a free-kick." http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11743/10118406/bournemouth-unlikely-to-appeal-simon-francis-red-card

It's amazing of how biased football fans can be. I hope Francis get the red card rescinded. I'd actually berate Morgan for trying to make the challenge when the chance of success was so slim and the punishment for fouling the player is so large. But that's just me I guess.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 Thought they both were, clear tackle from behindThis
Finnegan Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 Haven't seen the replay but I sit dead level with the first and it looked stonewall, he just swiped Vardy down from behind and didn't get the ball.
KP Fox Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 "Came in from the side"! What!? It's true. That's exactly how it was. Watch the video on YouTube and you will see exactly what Howe means.
Len Finsbury Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 I didn't think the first was a penalty. I think Vardy's foot got caught between the legs of the defender after he's got a touch on it. The second one, I thought WAS a penalty. Vardy is a master at the fall though, probably why he's won the most penalties this season in the PL.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 Thought the first one was a clear pen and second could have been given but would have been harsh. Don't really see how it's relevant that the guy got a slight touch on the ball when he came through the back of Vardy to do it. Second was just a clumsy tangle, he didn't even attempt to make a challenge. I'd have probably let him off if I was referee
ARM1968 Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 Not read the thread. First one wasn't. Second one was. Balanced out.
Phube Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 It's true. That's exactly how it was. Watch the video on YouTube and you will see exactly what Howe means. So it's you and Howe who don't know what "side" mean then?
bluebeau Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 Good clean tackle from their lad,and if the shoe was on the other foot we'd be fuming. I agree 100% & I hope he appeals against the red card. The ref must either be blind or he didn't actually see what happened!
KP Fox Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 So it's you and Howe who don't know what "side" mean then? Well I do know and you clearly don't but it doesn't matter. As a biased City fan I was chuffed the penalty was given and was sick as pig when it was saved. Just stating my opinion that it was not a penalty in the first place, that's all.
My Nads Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 Of course it was a penalty! People are only saying it wasn't because of the commentator said it wasn't, but he was wrong. If the ref hadn't have given that, we would have a thread with 900 pages on it by now!
The Doctor Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 Trajectory? The ball was on the floor. Doesn't mean it can't have a trajectory. It's going in the direction of Vardys run. Francis doesn't change the direction it's going or push it ahead of Vardy into Borucs path. Stonewall foul.
foxes876 Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 Once JV had got away and in front of the defender the tackle was likely to be a foul, even though the defender touched the ball he could not avoid fouling JV. This was my thoughts on it at the time. Even when a defender gets a strong contact on the ball from behind in these situations it's from having to have 'gone through' the attacker unless they are very close to level with the attacker. Was just a bit too far behind Vardy to pull it off and get away with it IMO.
dibbdroid Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 Goals on Sunday today showed contact was made with Vardy before the ball. Penalty, red card.

It'sblueupnorth Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 Most stonewall penalty I've ever seen. Their lad has gone through Vardy to play the ball, come in from behind, stopped a goalscoring opportunity and I'm unsure where this mysterious touch on the ball people are harking on about comes into play.
Guest Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 Lot of people saying both were pens. Blue tinted specs anyone? :xmascool: Brilliant defending on the one given. Felt the second was a better shout. Anyway my opinion is no more or less valid than anyone elses. As you were..
Captain... Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 A few years ago, when it was still accepted that you could have significant contact without committing a foul, especially if you came out with the ball at the end of it, yes, that would have been a great challenge. Maybe it was still a legitimate challenge. As far as the rules are concerned, the key questions are (a) had enough contact been made with Vardy to bring him down before the defender touched the ball? (b) if the defender did touch the ball, did he subsequently take Vardy out while he still had a good chance of reaching the ball? As regards (a), in the replay it looks like Vardy is going down before the defender touches the ball. The only question is whether that split second of contact was sufficient to take Vardy out, or if he was taking a tumble. So if the defender had evaporated the exact moment before he touched the ball, would Vardy still have fallen over? If he would have, then it's a penalty. As for (b), a lot of people get confused by referees giving fouls when a tackling player makes contact with the ball, but if that player impedes someone from reaching the ball without properly dispossessing them in the process of touching the ball, it's still an offence. Looking at the challenge again, his touch isn't a strong one and Vardy was clearly going to be first to the ball if he could stay on his feet. Is there enough contact to stop him from staying on his feet? Yes, obviously. So yeah, it's a penalty. Are you a ref? Or do you have the exact wording of the rules? They are surprisingly difficult to find/understand. If that is the case then can you please email it to all commentators/pundits/fans/casual followers because that is a penalty, and so was Stones' foul last week and he should have been sent off.
filbertway Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 Anyway, outside the box, so not a pen lads. On the second one, I only noticed that Vardy kicks his leg out backwards as he's going down. He's one of the best diver's (going to ground with barely any contact) going. They always look so much more believable than most players.
ThaiFox Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 Goals on Sunday today showed contact was made with Vardy before the ball. Penalty, red card. 100% agree. Stonewall penalty. As was the foul on him in the 88th minute. As for Vardy going to ground without much contact, running at the speed he does, any touch will be enough to fell you.
