WYS before kick off at home games and Goal Music

Just seen Dean Martin's version, that's at a good steady pace.

You're probably right, though I think it's a little slow. Old Blue Eyes did have a penchant for his lax rhythm, which would probably just confuse the hell out of our lot. :P

Deano's version for folks here:

All we need is something between the Jersey Budd dirge and what someone on here once described as a "rapped poem" as the fans chant it.

if you want to send the entire crowd to sleep and undo all the high tempo pre-match build-up then by all means play the Jersey Budd version of WYS. Its a NO from me.

WYS should be started by the fans and sung without backing music. Not one song played before the match over a PA system that everyone can have a sing song along with is good, and don't even suggest You'll Never Walk Alone because that's a steaming pile of shite.

Bin off Hey Jude as well, it has absolutely no relevance to our club. [/quote neither does wys

Words on screen so we all sing along together? We're not Crystal Palace with their cringeworthy orchestrated Glad All Over you know. Anyway, I cant stand WYS, never join in, so its a no from me.

What, more cringeworthy than cardboard clappers?

I'd personally prefer the big screens to just have the badge or the usual fox while it were sang, instead of words to the song on the screens. I can see the thinking behind it but I wouldn't be too keen, if I'm honest.

Don't think 'When You're Smiling' has that excitement factor for it to be played just before kick off. As stated previously it's an anthem, no problem with it being sung during the game. Also goal music surely seven nation army is going to be adopted by an English team soon. Why not us? It sounds incredible at some of the European grounds.

Clearly someone at the club is as superstitious as me - the Uptown Funk, Club Foot, Hey Jude combo must remain until our form implodes. Hopefully sometime in 2027!

Get rid of Hey Jude, it has zero relevance.

When You're Smiling - get it done City.

Agreed

Also.... don't know anyone that likes goal music. Just stop it (please).

Yes, by a country mile. Playing a song over the PA and getting the crowd to join in, I mean......

Fackin Landerners, not a fackin clue.

Fire is fine.

Glad all over is the biggest load of tin pot tosh I've ever heard. Plastic club

WYS isn't really one of those anthems that can be belted out by 5,000 in the Kop IMO. It just isn't.

Great song, love the fact it's ours. Good anthem. But it isn't "anthemic"

Bring on the Sunderland the Arsenal is a better terrace chant

Ok, this is a long post but hopefully you can bear with me on this. I am writing about 2 subjects, both WYS and Goal Music at the stadium.

WYS before kick off at home matches

I'd like to hear people's thoughts if the club were to play WYS (When You're Smilling) right before kick off at home games? Now I'm aware of the fact at first not everyone inside the stadium would sing along to our anthem, but this is why I thought a trial might work well. I feel playing the anthem song for 10 matches to start with would be good, and as the games go on, more and more fans are going to join in with singing this. With time and patience we could really make this work.

Just think if there was a champions league night at Filbert Way, how good would 32k fans singing WYS in unison sound? It would give the players such a lift and motivation right before games begin, and would set the tone really well. It has the potential to sound incredible if sang right. Even just for the normal BPL games, 32k singing the anthem would sound just as good. There is of course the issue of what version of WYS should be played, but in all honestly I feel Jersey Budd's version would work well. Listen to min 2:51 of Jersey Budd's version, that ending bit of the song would sound really amazing inside the ground. Even the start of it sounds good to me.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hn7kQ3reqwc.

Another problem we would have to try and negotiate is Hey Jude and the Premier League anthem are already being played. But, I'm not suggesting to get rid of Hey Jude, I'm just hopeful we could still fit in WYS before KO as well as these two other songs. I've taken inspiration from the likes of Liverpool, Leeds and Birmingham, they all sing their anthems to a very high standard, we can do this too with time in my opinion. This might also create the possibility of WYS being sung slower in general, maybe at away games, if people get used to singing the anthem at home, in tune, at the right pace.

Goal music at home games

What do people think on goal music being played inside the stadium for home games? Is there anyone out there who likes goal music being played? Please comment either way, I'd like to hear what fans have to say on goal music. In my personal opinion, I feel we should play the goal tune pre match, instead of it being played when we score goals. This way, fans who like it being played can still listen to the tune being played before the match, and for the ones that do not like goal music do not have to listen to the song being played in the stadium every time we score.

That seems the most logical solution to me. Being as the club are setting their sights on becoming an established top 10 Premier League side, you don't really get other teams in the top 10 playing goal music when they score goals. We have had it for a while now, again perhaps we can trial without it, unless fans really want to keep it. It's a decent song, but I just feel we should play it pre match instead of when we score. Unless fans do not want the song at all at the ground?

I have slight links to the club's committee meetings, so depending on the reception on here, the ideas may be suggested to the club and fans committee meetings. That isn't a certainty though. Feel free to comment on both the issues, if both are bad ideas, or good ideas, either way I like to know what the fans feel. If you have any ideas of your own, please by all means share those ideas too.

1. I don't think that many people would sing along to WYS, but I wouldn't mind it being played. It's better than Hey bloody Jude.

2. Basically no one I know likes or wants any goal music at all. I have literally no idea why the club started playing it and why it continues.

I doubt the club really want to change things though, else they could have done by now.

I heard that they were thinking about doing an online poll before the end of January on it - but with a week to go, there's no sign of it actually happening. Although it was meant to happen in October also and that didn't happen.

I've not heard WYS for a while, I used to love singing it at filbert st, I personally think it would be so much better than Hey Jude, I don't think it's too slow, Forest sing mull of kintyre, Liverpool have NWA and Sheff Utd have the greasy chip butty song....I always think they sound great as a away fan.

Why does goal music effect people's lives so drastically lol

100% agree, they could play the okey kokey for all I care. It has no bearing on my celebration/enjoyment. Having said all that I'm not a wannabe believing that it makes us look "tinpot" or less of an "ultra" outfit.

Sung multiple times every game in SK1. We really need to make more of it. Don't buy the "it's not anthemic" line, always used to be belted out by enough people at Filbert Street.

I don't even notice it these days, if you can hear it you're not going nuts after we've scored lol

A lot of European sides have fantastic goal music

Ok, so if we can't manage WYS then surely we can do LSF ?? Anyone that was on Vickie Park that night in June will know.

Hey Jude is embarrassing particularly when playing Liverpool or Everton. Like giving them a goal lead.
