WYS before kick off at home games and Goal Music

Ok, this is a long post but hopefully you can bear with me on this. I am writing about 2 subjects, both WYS and Goal Music at the stadium.

WYS before kick off at home matches

I'd like to hear people's thoughts if the club were to play WYS (When You're Smilling) right before kick off at home games? Now I'm aware of the fact at first not everyone inside the stadium would sing along to our anthem, but this is why I thought a trial might work well. I feel playing the anthem song for 10 matches to start with would be good, and as the games go on, more and more fans are going to join in with singing this. With time and patience we could really make this work.

Just think if there was a champions league night at Filbert Way, how good would 32k fans singing WYS in unison sound? It would give the players such a lift and motivation right before games begin, and would set the tone really well. It has the potential to sound incredible if sang right. Even just for the normal BPL games, 32k singing the anthem would sound just as good. There is of course the issue of what version of WYS should be played, but in all honestly I feel Jersey Budd's version would work well. Listen to min 2:51 of Jersey Budd's version, that ending bit of the song would sound really amazing inside the ground. Even the start of it sounds good to me.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hn7kQ3reqwc.

Another problem we would have to try and negotiate is Hey Jude and the Premier League anthem are already being played. But, I'm not suggesting to get rid of Hey Jude, I'm just hopeful we could still fit in WYS before KO as well as these two other songs. I've taken inspiration from the likes of Liverpool, Leeds and Birmingham, they all sing their anthems to a very high standard, we can do this too with time in my opinion. This might also create the possibility of WYS being sung slower in general, maybe at away games, if people get used to singing the anthem at home, in tune, at the right pace.

Goal music at home games
What do people think on goal music being played inside the stadium for home games? Is there anyone out there who likes goal music being played? Please comment either way, I'd like to hear what fans have to say on goal music. In my personal opinion, I feel we should play the goal tune pre match, instead of it being played when we score goals. This way, fans who like it being played can still listen to the tune being played before the match, and for the ones that do not like goal music do not have to listen to the song being played in the stadium every time we score.

That seems the most logical solution to me. Being as the club are setting their sights on becoming an established top 10 Premier League side, you don't really get other teams in the top 10 playing goal music when they score goals. We have had it for a while now, again perhaps we can trial without it, unless fans really want to keep it. It's a decent song, but I just feel we should play it pre match instead of when we score. Unless fans do not want the song at all at the ground?

I have slight links to the club's committee meetings, so depending on the reception on here, the ideas may be suggested to the club and fans committee meetings. That isn't a certainty though. Feel free to comment on both the issues, if both are bad ideas, or good ideas, either way I like to know what the fans feel. If you have any ideas of your own, please by all means share those ideas too.

I stopped reading at Jersey Budd awful version

Yesterday was the first time in ages I noticed goal music when we scored.

Not sure why because it was a atmosphere/fans were as loud as it has been and I was celebrating like mad as I normally do, but to be quite honest I wasn't sure if goal music was still played until yesterday when I noticed it.

Yes i'm definitely in favour of playing WYS before kick off and encouraging

everyone to get involved, maybe putting the words up on the screens to

make sure people sing it correctly!

Underlining each word in time also to stop it being sang too quickly!

No it's not, and the tempo for that version is just right for everyone to sing it together!

It's much better than the hurried, jumbled up version at the moment.

Sometimes it's over before you realise it's being sung!

Sinatra's WYS or GTFO.

As for goal music, I don't care one way or another. At least it's the boys from Kasabian instead of the Chelsea Dagger cringe-fest.

Have been thinking for a while with 'Hey Jude' why don't they mute the 'Hey Jude' bit so that the crowd can fill in with 'Leicester'. More people would join in just with the 'Leicester' bit, it would keep everyone in time and we'd have a better idea of how it sounds as it gets drowned out a bit at the minute by the blaring music.

Something to raise at the FCC?

Just seen Dean Martin's version, that's at a good steady pace.

Words on screen so we all sing along together? We're not Crystal Palace with their cringeworthy orchestrated Glad All Over you know. Anyway, I cant stand WYS, never join in, so its a no from me.

I love the two videos the club play on the big screens before kick off. Hair's stand up on the back of my neck with those goals.

it sounds cheesy at Liverpool, West Ham and Crystal Palace.

It would sound cheesy here to.

I know it's associated with us but I don't think the song fits with a football stadium or fans chanting it, I just don't think it's that type of song.

WYS should be started by the fans and sung without backing music. Not one song played before the match over a PA system that everyone can have a sing song along with is good, and don't even suggest You'll Never Walk Alone because that's a steaming pile of shite.

Bin off Hey Jude as well, it has absolutely no relevance to our club.

I'm well behind the notion of playing some form of WYS before the game but I've always thought it's one of those which isn't quite the sort to give you goosebumps. At the same time though it is our recognised song.

I'd still bin off the goal music. Just don't see it as necessary.

Post goal music - no, it must stop. It is crass and we will never be taken seriously when we play music when we score

WYS - yes please. It is part of our history and deserves to be sung "properly"

I know this is off topic slightly but it would also be good if the lads who start the songs could slow down e.g., Some people talk of Liverpool and Manchester....

I think its a great song but it won't catch on if people can't understand the words and can't sing fast enough !!

Top of the LEAGUE !!
