Thanks Raj, had a look and it's more expensive for the same level of cover. Appreciate the heads up though mate.

Which company are you with Geoff?

I might check it out for next time.

I use these. Called them out twice over the years, they've been brilliant.

Looks like £30.80 for the same cover as I already have - that's an excellent price. It's pretty much everything bar Europe which is more than enough for me. Reviews seem good too. Thanks for the heads up.

I've been with Autonet Insurance.

See above though Raj, Start Rescue looks a winner.

Sounds good.

If your a family with 2 cars like me n here indoors the autoaid might be a good option as it covers BOTH cars and drivers.

Just been back to Autonet and they've given me the cover for £29.50 so decided to stay with them for another year.

If you go for personal breakdown cover, it covers you no matter what car you're in, even if you're a passenger.

I'm debating on getting a lease car.

What puts me off is the fact there's no equity in it. And I'm not even considering anything electric, where a lease does make sense.

I'm trying to sell it to the Mrs, but she's not having any of it at the minute.

FFS, I always was a useless salesman, too honest lol

Looking at a BMW 128ti or a BMW m135i.

Both very similar prices, so the m135i has to take it really.

If I was buying a brand new car on finance, well I couldn't afford it, but if I was paying the same on a used motor on HP/PCP, it wouldn't be anywhere near what I could get for the same price as a lease, although I'd have equity to part exchange in 3 or 4 years when I wanted something else.

Tricky one.

I also might, be back in the motor trade soon, so get a company car. But company car tax is daylight robbery, so I'd rather pay another £100 a month on something I actually want.

I'll probably end up getting an e scooter

I'm back in the motor trade!

Starting on 19th August.

If anyone is in the market for a new car, feel free to give me a shout.

Working for Bristol Street Motors. Got over 7000 used cars in stock and I'll also be selling new Peugeot's.

Can't wait to get started.

Congratulations, hope it goes well.

Be diplomatic in case your new employer is watching, but what do you think of Peugeot as a brand these days? I had one, twenty years ago admittedly, and it was such a turd it put me off French cars for life (especially British built ones like this was) but I've read that in recent years their quality control has improved a lot

Thanks.

In all honesty, Peugeot isn't a brand that I'm too familiar with, never really had many of them in at my old place.

I've got a lot of research to do regarding models and specs over the next week or so.

I do know that over the past few years, they've rocketed up the reliability charts.

The 3008 and 5008 seem to be decent motors in the SUV category.

Also the 508's are pretty nice, that is something I've driven before. With Ford stopping production of the Mondeo, it definitely offers the benefits of a larger family hatchback that there doesn't seem to be many of on the market nowadays.

The majority of sales at the moment are on the used side of things. The lead time on a new car is about 4 to 6 months because of the semiconductor shortages.

Would you recommend an e208? They look nice to me

Honestly need to get through my training on product knowledge, do some reading up and sit in a few to give an honest opinion.

Would be easy to say yes, but I'm not one of the arsehole salesman that give the rest of us a bad name.

If you are interested and don't mind travelling to Northampton, I'll happily give you a test drive and the best deal that I can get from my new boss!

There's always a deal that suits both buyer and seller.

Said it so many times on here, I'm not in the business of ripping people off, which unfortunately, some are.

The commission is good, but I'd rather someone walk away with the right car and a deal that suits both parties.

You play the long game, if you've done a great job, people will recommend you. That's better than getting one deal that makes you a fortune.

Treat someone fairly, you're more likely to get return customers, plus their family and friends.

Thank you, mate.

I'd hate the thought of my mum or one or my step-kids getting ripped off, so why do it to anyone.

Reputation is everything to me.

Good for you Tom although I must say that  it had never occurred to me that there might be some dodgy sorts in the car dealing fraternity. I mean, on the whole, they look such an honest bunch

Found a nice car today that I was interested in VW Golf R, rang up this morning asked if it’s still available & can I test drive today. Lady on the phone said that’s fine and we arranged a time.

Got down there had a look around the car and asked if I could take it for a drive. The garage owner said I could only take it for a drive if I’m going to buy it. Very strange thing to say as obviously I’m interested in buying it hence the reason arranging a viewing and travelling over to see it. She would only let me take it for a drive once we’d sat down and agreed on a sale. I walked away

That's certainly not how it works. Pretty outrageous to be honest.

Where was this?

A big thing I've encountered before is someone dead set on a car. Then they take it for a drive and hate it, so we look at other options, because they still need a new car.

If you have a car to part exchange, the test drive provides the perfect opportunity to value that vehicle whilst you're on a test drive.

Why negotiate and waste everyone's time if you aren't going to like the car?

Give it 2 weeks mate, I'll find you one. You can certainly take it for a drive with no obligation before we negotiate.

The only thing that should be done is what's called a qualification. The salesman asks you questions.

If you want to pay £200 a month for a £30k car, have no deposit and want £5k for your 2003 Fiat Punto with 200k on the clock, you're on another planet and I wouldn't let you take it for a drive lol

It was a place called Fleet car sales in Leicestershire the thing is I bought my current car from there 4 years ago and she remembered me.

Thats the thing I’ve drove a golf before but only a GTD. On my way down there I was 90% sure I was going to have it I just wanted the test drive to confirm that I was doing the right thing. Money all in place literally ready to a deal that day.

This is the company I'll be working for.

Both slightly older, only by a year.

1 similar milage, 1 lower.

Both cheaper.

There's value to be had.

Beautiful cars. Stick it in sport mode and the noise it makes its fantastic.

My realistically priced ideal car. The Mrs is having none of it though lol

I won't be able to deal until I've completed my training, so start of September, but ask away if I can help out

That's poor form from a dealer though. Especially if you're a returning customer.
