There has to be some better plan than all these  lithium- ion batteries. They are huge and their production is terrible for the environment. Worse than fossil fuels in some ways, when it comes to their production.

Long term, I can see a lot more production moving to hydrogen powered vehicles.

Needs technological development, but it'll come in time.

well you have to start somewhere don’t you. But yes, hydrogen is the future!

Hydrogen is a long way from being the future for personal vehicles due to the cost of converting it from H2O,  but is likely to be the only alternative to Fossil Fuels for heavy transport at least in the short to medium term.  Much more likely that Batteries will improve through solid state technology.  Only time will tell.

Batteries will be the biggest and fastest growing area in car tech very soon. If all new cars have to be electric in 2030 onwards it'll have to be. You'll soon get long haul batteries and a full 300+ mile charge done in 15 mins within the next 10 years IMO.

Is it Toyota that has gone all out on hydrogen?

I think they’ve said they’re going to skip electric and get a head start on the hydrogen models.

I’m assuming it’s to with lack of confidence in infrastructure- maybe not so much here, but other parts of the world.

Toyota produce the Mirai, which is hydrogen powered.

There's a hell of a lot that needs to be done to advance the way that the hydrogen is stored in the fuel cells, but once that is conquered, there are huge benefits over electric.

Greater range, full fuelling in minutes, more practical for people who would struggle to install charging points at home...

It's coming, look at the advance in EV technology over the last decade. Hydrogen will make those advances too.

I almost think EV's are a temporary solution until something better, like hydrogen, is developed.

EV's will be around for a long time, but there's a better option once the developments are made.

i think EVs are great even if their only achievements is  to change society’s mindset concerning our  dependence on fossil fuels.

Absolutely.

I was very sceptical about them, but having got to work with them, I've certainly changed my mindset.

We had a chat about them at work the other day, EV's are a massive focus now. Someone put it very well by comparing it to how we've bought and consumed music over the years.

An internal combustion engine is vinyl. It's all anyone knew for decades and gives you the raw feel, it'll always be there for purists and will make a comeback.

Hybrids are cassettes. They are good and can be convenient for some people, but have impracticalities.

EV's would be your Compact Disk. Massive technological advances, but you can't do cwrtain things with them.

Then we're waiting for the long term solution in cars that'll be comparable to streaming music.

I thought that was a great metaphor.

EVs are fantastic, I wouldn’t want to go back to an ICE, unless you need to do more than 300m in a day there aren’t many downsides

Unless you live in a row of terraced housing. Or elsewhere you can't install a charger.

That's the biggest obstacle I face when suggesting them to customers.

Yea, if you don’t have a home charger it must be a total pain. Really need councils to step up and install them along roads. In Clarendon Park they are trialing lamppost chargers, only 3kw but I guess if the trial is judged successfully they’ll add in 7kw+ chargers (which tbf are fine overnight for most users) along streets.

Have I mentioned it's now my job to sell these?

I don't really have to do much. Just look at it.

If you'd like one, and why wouldn't you, let me know lol

I fancy getting an Alfa but I've heard things about them being prone to breakdowns and being unreliable. Not sure I could afford a decent model nor the insurance, but I find them very desirable.

Ballpark figure for a brand new one with a 5k deposit is about £450 a month on a 4 year PCP, doing 10k miles a year.

That's for the Veloce 2.0 280 bhp.

It depends how much you want to spend and what you want. I've had two second hand Giuliettas, one diesel and one petrol. Both were well under £10k and both three years old.

The unreliability reputation comes from the Alfas of old, these days they are no different from any other used car I wouldn't have thought. My insurance was comparable to other cars too.

My petrol Alfa was by far my favourite car ever, it put a genuine smile on my face every time I saw it, and the petrol especially was a beautiful drive too.

This was my second one

Love the number plate. Those first 2 letters could confirm the fact your offer of accommodation in Spain is swinging related lol

I've sold a few where the plates started BJ69. I know, I'm a child.

Sold a car to a lovely lady in her late 50's today. She'd been driving a Fiat Siecento that she bought brand new, 18 years ago.

It was starting to cost her money, so wanted a new Fiat 500 to keep for another 18 years.

Sold her a pre-reg, so she saved 3k on a factory order/new reg.

Her daughter came with her, the daughter drives a BMW and was putting off ordering a new car because of the supply issues.

Chatted to the daughter, valued her car, found out it was massively in equity and basically sold her a brand new BMW even though I don't work for them! The sales exec there will love me!

For anyone on here on a PCP taken out before last August, get your car valued. You're probably in a shit load of equity. Don't lose it.

The used car market could crash at any time.

That would help me out though.

A PCP on a brand new car is cheaper than on a used car, due to various factors.

As always, anyone need any advice, hit me up.

Can value cars for you and find certain new ones too.

Edit...Not a sales tactic. Helped a few of you out and posts on here prove that.

Don't get ripped off!
