Leicester City vs. Southampton FC post match thread 1 - 0

A better solution would be an indirect free kick in all those situations. Indirect free kick against any team gaining an advantage from the ball striking the hand/arm. Direct free kick/penalty and yellow card when it is deliberate, red when it is stopping a clear goal scoring opportunity.

Take the Huth one yesterday, there is no way Southampton deserve a goal for kicking the ball at his hand, but it is also unfair that a cross was blocked by the hand. Probblem a cross was unfairly blocked, solution Southampton get another attempt to cross it in with an indirect free kick, Southampton get the chance to put the ball in again (in those cases the indirect free kick could be awarded from the point it was crossed in and not where contact was made, but that is making a simple law more complicated.)

Of the above incidents, if the rule was applied Simpson wouldn't have conceded an in direct free kick IMO as the ball would have hit his body had his arm not been there so no advantage is  gained, probably the same for Sterling, that was a very harsh decision, but if the ref makes a mistake in those situations then it doesn't result in a goal which, changes the game, but an indirect free kick.

This seems the most equitable solution but its still subjective.

The use of video technology wouldn't help too much either, as its still subjective and the slower the replay the worst the incident looks.

MO had some big calls to make, and got all of them right.

Strongest ref in the premier league, another ref would have bottled it and thought 'well okay because I didn't give the other I should at least give this'.

Quibbling about decisions has become about desperately trying to prove how a different result would have been possible. Nobody ever goes on and on about decisions that would have meant a team wins 3-0 instead of 1-0.

That just shows it's not about wanting fair results, it's people with vested interests wanting different results.

I'm surprised at all the coverage given to these decisions. They're not even close to being penalties or red cards. I swear some people have forgotten that games can be decided without any penalties or red cards. It's like they can't live without them. Just get on with it for christ's sake.

How do you see Leicester doing next season. ?

Europe again. I think the others will get stronger but that gets said every year. I don't think we're doing this by chance.

It's just occured to me that we have qualified for European football through league position for the first time in our history. A quite remarkable achievement for everyone connected to the club.

I said exactly this but it turns out we actually haven't as Liverpool can still catch us. I think it's possibly safe to discuss who we want in Europe now though without jinxing it.

I'd be interested in a thread documenting when posters on FoxesTalk first stated publicly that they believed we would win the league (assuming, of course, that we do win the league) - we could even get a sense of "belief" amongst the posters at various stages of the game.

Turning the league into a one-horse race. :worship:

More one-sided title race than Germany, Italy or Spain. :worship:

Running away with the title. :worship:

Well I missed the game to take my daughter to a little mix concert. Sat staring at my phone getting the updates. Was delighted to get the 3 points and almost shed a tear. Tbf Little Mix put on a good show and my god they look good in sparkly leotards.

Anyway I watched the highlights. How anybody can put in a serious claim for handball is beyond me. Both incidents by the letter of the law suggests no penalty. Koeman just spitting his dummy out his pram. He would obviously state the letter of the law if it was the other way around.

7 points clear with 6 games to go. Unbelievable.

Norwich at home 1-0.

I was at a wedding, and I kept checking my phone for score updates. At 85th minute I gave up thinking it'd finish 0-0. Ten minutes later I check the result and you can imagine my reaction.

The following day Arsenal lost at Old Trafford and I truly believed we had a chance. We may not win it still, but Norwich at home was when I started believing.

Watched the analysis on MOTD 2 and hoow Kilbane can think the Simpson one is a handball is beyond me. He claimed he flicked his arm at the ball....thats some pretty amazing reactions if that is the case, to stop his arms natural running motion, reverse its direction and process where the ball is going to block it in what a split second? Absolutely ridiculous comment.

Disliked the guy ever since he kept calling Pearce JP on our FA cup game vs spurs.

Champions.

We're going to come close to winning or drawing through the last 12.

The handballs have been debated ad nauseum today on the radio etc.

Simpsons only looks like a handball when viewed from the away fans camera. Every other angle looks like his arm stays against his body and doesn't move towards the ball. Would be impossible for the ref or assistant to give it based on that. Fwiw, I believe it's an involuntary movement towards the ball as he realises that the ball could hit his arm and he instinctively moves it but has no idea where. similar to the way that you are drawn toward the car coming in the opposite direction at night, even though it makes no sense whatsoever. Those lights draw you in.

Huth's looks more likely as his arm is well away from his body - I think that we, as fans, need to prepare mentally for the CL next season. both of those would probably be given and much of our high tempo pressing and challenging for the ball will result in free kicks. I think Claudio will be ready for that though.

Simpson's doesn't look like a peno in real time. There is no way it is deliberate.

I only saw highlights but apart from long shots, it didn't seem as if Southampton created much.

I have a good friend across town who also gets up at the break of dawn and watches all the PL games.  We text back and forth during the games, except when Leicester or Spurs (his team) are playing.  I got a text as soon as the third went in (Huth) and the Foxes were leading 3-0 at the Etihad. He said fook, you are going to win the league.  It is when i believed too.

Watched it in New York at Legends with Jason and Patrick. The game kicked off at 8:30am local but the bar was still packed, with a mix of New Yorkers, expats and holiday makers like us. They even handed out the clackers!

Brilliant fun. Lager and another Leicester win for breakfast. Get in!
