Leicester City vs. Southampton FC post match thread 1 - 0

I'd be interested in a thread documenting when posters on FoxesTalk first stated publicly that they believed we would win the league (assuming, of course, that we do win the league) - we could even get a sense of "belief" amongst the posters at various stages of the game.

Would it? You'd get dozens of penalties a match if it were that easy - might as well just play red arse and be done with it if the aim of the game becomes to blast it as hard as possible at an opponents body part.

There arent dozens of occasions in a match where a ball his an opposition player on the arm.

Laws make no sense whatsoever. Huths arms are away from his body today, ball is crossed, if it doesnt hit his arm its going into a dangerous area, nothing given.

In the Newcastle 3 Man Utd 3 game, corner comes over, Fellaini and Mbemba contest a header, Mbemba loses his position and arms are away from body, headed against his hand from about 6 inches, penalty given.

Nathan Dyer in game v Spurs FA Cup. Nowhere near goal, doesnt know whats going on, ball brushes hand, penalty given????????

Danny Simpson, running back towards the line and literally pushes the ball away with his arm! i was in the stadium, and ive seen a tv replay, he physically pushed it away with his arm, what happened? nothing!

Cissokho in the game v Aston Villa away. Ball comes across the box, Cissokho slides to block the shot. Has no idea where the shot will go, and has the ball blasted at him from roughly 3 yards. Penalty given?????

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain vs Olympiakos in the Champions League, loose ball breaks, misjudges the ball, controls it with his arm right in front of the referee. nothing! How can controlling the ball not be a deliberate action?

Christian Fuchs at home this season (cant remember exactly the game) totally misjudges the ball, arms are miles away from his body, nothing!

Raheem Sterling vs Spurs, jumps to block a cross, whilst turning his back so can in no way deliberately be moving anything towards the ball. He jumps and arms move as would be natural when jumping, nothing unnatural happening. Penalty given???

Its so obvious that people are going to argue the opposite to every one of these decisions just to be controversial, but how is this total state of randomness better than handball is a penalty?

Me personally, I don't care. If we win the league and get relegated next year it'll still be worth it.

That's where I am too. I'll always be various degrees of delighted or pissed off with whatever we churn out as that's what being a football fan is like, but really no bad season will ever feel as significant again if we pull this off.

During the final few minutes, and especially at the final whistle, I felt genuinely emotional. I've been saying for a little while that I think we'll do it but I don't think I actually believed it until today. There was just something about that performance and the nervous energy you could feel around the ground. I was a mess during the game and I wasn't alone. I don't do crying at football, but I think if we the league title is confirmed at home I might just lose my composure. It still feels to massive to comprehend.

That's not what I said though - what I said is if you make it so that any contact with the hand is a penalty you'll get players blasting it at peoples hands from short range and as a result dozens of penalties in a match. Not that if that were the case there'd be dozens of penalties in the game earlier.

Subjective decisions are better than just turning the game into a glorified form of red arse, the latter would be pretty shit to watch.

See this is how most rival fans see it too which is why everybody are happy to wish you happy league wins and jump on this bandwagon and celebrate with you like chumps.

Not me...

I see the bigger picture Leicester City won't disappear they are not going to go quietly into the bottom half of the table next season you are Rivals now they will add the squad keep all their star players will have massive new income from Champions League and TV deals.

People need to realise this what if come late November this year and Leicester are 1st in the league again lol will everybody still be rooting for Leicester then no way.

Whatever happens in the next 4 games now, we will go into the Everton game still in with a chance of winning the league. One more win will ensure that we can take it to the last game.

But hopefully we will have wrapped it up by then. Don't know how many more of these 1-0s I can take.

It's just occured to me that we have qualified for European football through league position for the first time in our history. A quite remarkable achievement for everyone connected to the club.

...

These are the posts I enjoy, not this continual, nerving rants on penalty or not, filling the thread.

The games long gone, the ref descisions are of no further importance.Dog and bone come to mind.

Welshy and nightcap come up with future references, not whats passed, well done.

Vardys touch was too heavy and it was breaking away to the CB - yellow was fair.

Probably the first time I've ever seen you post something about a ref's decision that didn't suggest he'd done something unfavourable to Leicester!

Was a subjective decision better when it effectively knocked us out the FA cup then?

If someone doesnt have the skill to hit the corners of a 24 ft by 8ft goalframe with regularity, then i highly doubt they are going to perfect the art of blasting it at peoples moving hands from here there and everywhere.

US?

Serious rivals to the big boys???

See it's stuff like this I cant get my head round.

It's disbelief and bemusement that I'll wake up and we are just mid table, and I'd still be happy with that!!?

Agree with Webbo- IF we win the League, whatever happens after,THIS will never be forgotten.

Just be weird telling the kids it REALLY did happen when we are back to reality and mid table crap in Championship with our normal 20,000+!!!

Just an amazing feeling after today's game felt like we'd won a cup final, of course we shouldn't count a chickens just yet but with six games to go with a seven point lead surely we're not going to slip up now!. As expected it was a very tight game of football, but what an excellent cross from Fuchs followed by an excellent header from Morgan.

That wasn't even a subjective decision, that was capitulation by the referee (since he can't see the ball), but that'd still be a penalty if you made any contact a penalty.

You don't tend to hit penalties from a couple of feet away though - you set it up that any contact with a hand regardless of context is a penalty and all you'll get is people finding themselves in a blind alley and chipping it onto the defender jockeying them.

Last season (away to Liverpool) - Ball smacks Wes Morgan in the FACE, penalty given and scored!!??? This season, during a corner (away to Crystal Palace) Scott Dann literally rips Robert Huth's shirt off of him, blinding him as well as toppling him over, NO penalty given!!???!

Bottom line - We **king deserve a bit of luck to say the least.

I used that example to show how much of an ass the law is.

If we are talking intent to handle the ball and unnatural positions, if you dont know where the fvcking ball is in the first place you cant be intending to stop it or be in an unnatural position.

Ill suggest a comprimise:

Any shot stopped with a hand, and any time a hand stops the ball going reaching its intended target, then this is a penalty. Whether your arms are natural, unnatural, up, down, you have stopped the ball with your hand reaching its target. Penalty.

We absolutely do, no question.

Im not in any way complaining about the decisions today either, why would i? Im having a ball this season.

But handball AND offside, well its becoming a lottery.

It is, no doubt. And those 2 examples I picked (I'm sure there are several others from last season as I calculated that we were cheated out of at least 8 points, before we pulled off the "great escape") of us being on the wrong end of penalty decisions helps illustrate it being a lottery.

You guys are clearly under estimating yourselves in my opinion. It come across as tho some of you think this is a fluke or some sort. Hey you fluke a cup competition not a League. You've won it cause you've been the best over the longest period of time you've been the most consistent.

Don't any of you recall Atletico Madrid and their La Liga win recently they didn't do it spending millions of pounds they won it by good scouting, playing like a unit and believing in each other with a good coach behind them just like Leicester now.

How much could you command for Mahrez should you choose to sell £50.000.000+ easily.

The foxes have the platform for continued success that is a certainty.

Just because I don't mind being relegAted if we win the league doesn't mean I think it's going to happen.

Put it in here instead of do they mean us or teams of the week since this is the handball debate venue, but Garth Crooks continues to be a monumental bell:

It was only "a bit of a push" that led to Wes Morgan's winning goal against Southampton, said former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel. It was a clear push and referee Michael Oliver should have seen it.

Similarly, Southampton were entitled to a penalty when Sadio Mane rounded Kasper Schmeichel only to see Foxes full-back Danny Simpson clear the ball off the line with his arm. At this point, Leicester should have been down to 10 men. Two major calls have put Leicester City in an unprecedented position - but you can't blame Morgan or Simpson for that.

He makes it sound like he did an Henry vs Ireland or something.  I genuinely don't get this obsession with saying Simpson deserved punishment for the way the ball struck his arm, has the whole world forgotten the term ball-to-hand today?  MOTD and its slo-mo replays can't come around quickly enough because clearly I and a few others on here have gone crazy and need to be put straight.

Well we must keep hold of all our players, and if we do then why can't we start to really tear up the champions league too... no one thought it was possible to be in this situation now, so there is no reason we can't continue to add to this outstanding side and continue to be contenders

This team is world class no doubt about it , it is a side that has it all

Hahahaha we dominated the game Kasper made one decent save from long range but Forster performed miracles at times for them lol
