Driving test

A while ago you may remember me creating a thread about tips on passing my theory test, and now my practical test is soon, so I have a questions to ask!

- did you find it easy?

- how did you control the nerves?

- was there any point in the test where you was sure that you failed but still passed?

- any other tips?

Thanks!

Practical test is easier. You'll be nervous leading up to the test (that's natural) but I'm sure the examiner will settle you down and once you're in the car you'll be fine. Just relax and do everything normal, you know, as if the examiner isn't there or as if its your normal instructor. Best of luck.

I failed my first test for going 26 mph in a 30 zone three times. If you make the same minor error three times its a fail. He said you're looking at going 10% under or over the speed limit. I was gutted and didn't take it very well! So my advice is try and stick bang on to the speed limit where it applies.

I failed twice, once for driving too cautiously down a street with double parked cars and kids walking back from school and another for not anticipating the speeding car coming round a blind corner as I made a right turn.

Sometimes you'll get an examiner who's bored or in a really shit mood so don't take it to heart if you do fail.

A tip I'll give you is if you find yourself not taking the direction you're given don't panic and try and correct it, just keep going until they tell you to change the route again.

I failed twice. One was for passing some parked cars at the bottom of Humberstone Lane when cars were coming the other way. If anyone knows that bit of road, if you waited for the cars coming up the hill you'd be sat for hours, and there's plenty of room. When I was growing up my mum and dad would drive through there every time without any problem, so I just did the same. I've since spoke to people who've gone that way on a test and had no issue. Guess what I'm saying is that some examiners are fine and some are looking for a reason to fail you. Don't take it to heart and if you fail just try again as soon as you can.

only a fail if you do it 4 times, I had 3 minors for the same thing and passed

I passed on my 2nd attempt, first time I failed for positioning myself more to the left when turning right from a one way street.

I tried to get my tests early morning as most of the time you'll just be stuck in traffic.

Don't go round a roundabout the wrong way like I did.

How about when he asks you to go straight at the roundabout? Should you go straight over?

Passed mine a couple of years ago first time now. Chat to the examiner builds a relationship and makes them like you so they are more lenient. Just take your time, they understand that you'll be nervous but I found once I'd got out the test centre your focused and don't feel it.

It's nothing like as bad as you think it will be before you go in. I quite enjoyed it.

Oh, I didn't tell anyone either, with the exception of my parents.

  • Did you find it easy? Relatively, That's not being big headed, but I just didn't feel under any pressure during it.
  • How did you control the nerves? Didn't really have any, the pessimist I am I went in opinion that I was going to fail, couldn't be disappointed then! lol
  • Was there any point in the test where you was sure that you failed but still passed? I didn't do anything wrong really, so no, unless you do anything serious wrong you won't know till the end so there is always that doubt there. How many minors are you aloud? Because I got 1 less than what would be a fail, so I obviously did do alot wrong, but not enough to fail! lol
  • Any other tips? Nothing I can really think of.

Obviously you have to competent for them to pass you but personally I think alot of it is luck on the day, depends what examiner you get, time, how many passes that day, e.t.c, like I said obviously if you do something seriously wrong then it's a fail simple as that, but based on my experience for example, the examiner was quite friendly, talked to me all the way round (Which I personally wouldn't have thought was right, surely they should be let you concentrate), I was the last person of the day, as i've said I was 1 minor away from a fail and if I remember correctly, he didn't even get me to do any manoeuvers (Reverse round a corner, Parking, Three-Point turn, e.t.c) personally I just think he couldn't be bother to fail me, as it was more paper work to do? :dunno:

I remember getting home and my mum was there with some family friends, I said 'I failed' and sat watching the TV, they left me to it, 10 minutes later I got up and said 'Right i'm going for a drive then' lol

This, get chatting to them and they can oversea minors.

Also i stalled on my test and still passed, its how you recover from a minor that helps you overall.

I passed second time, but was convinced I'd failed because after completing the three point turn as I drove off I went over the pavement and the kerb on the corner of the road... I spoke to the examiner all the way round so maybe that helped :)

This could be my exact post lol

Just drive safely for 38 minutes. It really isn't that difficult when you look at it like that. Having said that It was a sweaty, intense 38 mins at that!

My tip would be evidently check mirrors as much as possible early on so the instructor knows you're doing it so you can ease off!
