Danny Simpson's pace

I always thought he was a bit of a slow coach but I noticed yesterday just how quick he is. When Lingard had a run on him he did ever so well to get his body back in front of him.

There were few other foot races he had with their attackers where he won too.

I wonder if we have a training regime to increase speed?

I don't think he's particularly slow, just that in a very fast team some fast players aren't as quick as others.

I think he is the most improved player this season.

The work of defenders is often overlooked, understandable as the TV loves the skillful players (Mahrez) and loves goals ( Vardy).

But our defence has been superb and Simpson has played a major part in that defence.

You can't increase speed can you?

Anyway I don't think he's fast or slow. He's about right. Did very well to make up for his error yesterday, no way was it a foul on Lingaard.

Surely with training you can? Speed is surely to do with the right muscles being strong (as well as natural technique)

He seems a lot quicker than what I remember of him last season.

When I was training for marathons I did some speed work, sprints and such like and as a result not only did my marathon pace increase but my speed over short distances massively increased. Obviously there will become a point where you just won't get quicker but speed is something that can be worked on.

Of course you can! Strange that you could think that.

You don't think a 20 stone man could get any faster through training? It's just that on a smaller scale.

I thought it was just one of those things you can't really improve. I mean over a short distance maybe, but surely you can't "get faster" (as such).

He's had a great season, and played an important role in making our defence so difficult to breach. However, I think that he was at fault for the goal yesterday - missed heading the ball when the cross came in and out of position, leaving Martial totally unmarked.

While he was  out of position for the Goal he was only doing what he's done all season that is tuck in tight to Morgan. It's then normally the job of the Midfielder or Winger to pick up the wide man. this is something Albrighton and Schlupp are good at, Sadly Mahrez not so much, But he is getting better at it.

The Square pass was just daft as last man and while he didn't foul Kasper got him out of jail.

It won't be by a large amount when you're dealing with people who are already physically fit, but you can still lose weight and train the muscles necessary for running to squeeze a bit more pace out of a player.

Training correctly can increase strength and speed.

You're thinking of height

This exactly, with training you certainly can get quicker, a lot quicker in some cases. But there is limitations to what your natural body can achieve, you won't become Usain Bolt even with the best training in the world because you need to be born with the right muscle structure.

It was a magnificently 'italian' piece of defending. Just enough contact to put pressure on his man, but not enough for the ref to blow for it.

Simpson is just fast enough to do his defensive job against pacey wingers, and he has shown great reslience in last ditch situations, this season.

Usain Bolt doesn't train.

Simpson is a top "old fashioned" full back. I can't remember the last time anybody properly skinned him. Players just don't get past him.

He isn't attacking enough for England but his style suits our team perfectly.

He does need to stop passing back to the opposition then he wouldn't need to run as fast. Fortunately neither cost but he was setting up Schmeichel for a red card tackle yesterday.
