Islam Slimani

I wouldn't take that as him not being interested in Slimani, but maybe slimani not being interested in us...at the time. Or the club not wanting to sell...

To be fair we were fresh from promotion and not even considering Champions League football at that time

For the interest of thw Algerian national team...we shouldn't put all our eggs in one basket.

Mahrez is more then enough...Slimani will end up...not leaving Sporting he is adored over there...he is playing first roles in Portuguese league he will play in Europe next year...he is well setup...no reason to move at 27.

All your eggs?  Two!

What's wrong with two players playing together at club level so that they can learn each others games inside out?  I would have thought that can only benefit the national team.

I can sort of see too many may eventually cause issues, but I don't class two as too many.

The connection is already there they have played one world cup ans one african cup together with nearly all the qualificatifs games in between. ..they work magic.

I just cannot see Islam coming here on a cheap and to an unknown outcome whilst he is considered in Portugale like a king....it is like Mahrez going to play for Benfica...unlikely!

This is my opinion.

SCP loved Ricky van wolfswinkel, he went to Norwich. Think you drastically under estimate the pull of the premier league, especially compared to the Primera Liga, and even then, Sporting seem to have fuked their best chance of winning the league in recent history. We are in pot 1 for the champions league draw it is looking like they will be lucky to be in pot 3

I also struggle to see why you think any part of this deal would be "cheap"......our club is well run and we now have more prem tv and prize money than we'd ever planned for, not to mention CL money coming in. We can afford to pay what both club and player would view as respectable.

As for your reservations about your national side, pretty safe to say no one in Leicester or Lisbon could care less. Mahrez is probably regretting the day he agreed to play for you, he'd be in France's squad now if he'd of held off.

Ghoulam (napoli); Boudebouz (montpellier); Ghezzal (lyon) Soudani (D . zaghreb)

Totally forgot about that lad at Napoli, the others I haven't heard of. Surely with a squad like that, as fans you'd be expectant to win the AFCON and qualify for the World Cup?

mm no Mahrez is Algerian through and through, just watch some of his interviews. Specifically the ones on French tv where he basically tells them straight to their face that he is Algerian first, French second. You can feel the tension and awkwardness in the room given France's post colonial climate where they expect everybody to integrate into their culture.

Steady on!

We know Mahrez is 100% committed to Algeria. No way would he want to play for France.

Sporting's revenue was just Euro63m last year (I believe), ours was Euro130m. This year it is probably going to be more than Euro190m. So, where does the idea that we'd do anything on the cheap come in?

I think as fans we need to respect each other more. We need to understand the passion of the Algerians, and they need to understand that we are one of the richest clubs in the world now. All PL will be. But with our recent success, excellent management on and off the pitch, we'll have jumped up significantly.

We are a very interesting prospect these days for players.

Great post.

Thanks :)

At 27, nearly 28, I think he could see us a potential option for a 'last big pay day'. He is reaching his peak age, after which he will likely decline, so we really would be a great option for him. Personally, I think we have fowards who are a similar age, and I'd like to see use get a really promising youngster in. But I'll trust Walsh, and know that we are attractive to all but the 'biggest' players these days.

Got an Algerian mate at work. He absolutely adores Mahrez, as you'd expect. But he's also a huge Slimani fan. He says this guy is the real deal. I tend to listen to him because he's a genuine football fan and follows all the Algerian games!

The pull of the premiers league regardless of this exceptional year was and is still led by the top four; now Leicester has to build on this year success for few more year to pretend competing the pulling power.

As for the cheap issue you seem to not pay attention to you gaffer; steve W and your owner; they are not going for prime names and expensives.

As for Mahrez choice to play for his country; well I am not surprise that you don't respect his choices as you know nothing about him his background or familly history.

I am sure for Islam to move away from the set up he is in is going to be very difficult.

We will see but i doubt that he will come to leicester.

With all due respect, a good side playing in one of the best leagues is more attractive then a decent side playing in a rubbish league. I'm absolutely confident that Slimani would jump at the chance to join Leicester.

I very much doubt he is regretting the decision to represent Algeria, his father was his greatest role model and Algerian through and through. I'm sure I've read that somewhere with direct quotes from Riyad.

I will tend to disagree Portuguese league is very technical and enjoyable to watch and few Sporting players are courted by big team in Europe.

Expectation are very high we have a good team but with need a good gaffer to glue the whole thing the Algerian way.

The lads are very technical and truly tallented we were expecting to do better the last AFC but we didn't.

LCFC success has proven once again that a football team is made not only by good players but also by an effective medical technical staff glued by an experienced very good coach.

We have the players ..not the rest.
