Statisticaly how many LCFC players should Roy put in the English team?

I'm not clever enough to understand stats. But going by that list and removing all the foreign players, doesn't that suggest Albrighton and Simpson should also make the England squad?

I'm not sure how they've generated the stats either (being honest)…. But, according to these stats, yes they should!!!

9 Leicester outfield players in the top thirty.... Just missing a Shinji. (Clearly they didn't include loveable wide grins in the stats!!!)

Top 11 English players: Vardy, Kane, Alli, Walker, Drinkwater, Deeney, Albrighton, Smalling, Simpson, Barkley, Noble

Bit of a shortage of goalkeepers, left-sided players and centre-backs.

Here's my formation (3-2-3-2 formation with rush goalie):

Deeney (rush goalie covering centre back)

Walker; Smalling; Simpson

Drinkwater; Noble

Albrighton; Alli; Barkley

Vardy; Kane

Probably do better than Roy's team of brittle men...

I like your style... Repatriate Morgan and we're in business!!!

Always thought Noble was unlucky not to make it...

Where's Dier or Henderson??? Oh, I can answer that nowhere!!!

When almost half of the best 11 English players statistically are not even in the 26 man squad, you know we have problems.

I wonder if Wes has any regrets about opting for Jamaica a couple of years back?

Maybe that would have been his preference, anyway, if he feels close to his family roots (cue cliched images of a dreadlocked Wes scoffing Jerk Chicken, smoking a spliff and skanking to some heavy dub).

He seems quite an English Jamaican, though.

I quite understand that a couple of years back, he couldn't have imagined himself ever being a candidate for England selection - but he surely would have had a chance, as it turns out?

You have to be careful with those stats though as performances are rated against team factors as well as individual factors, such as goals conceded, clean sheets, games won/lost.

Full breakdown here:

Leicester players will be rated higher because of team performances, even if individual stats are lower than say an Everton player or Liverpool player.

I would be surprised if Roy would have considered Morgan at 32, despite an amazing season I think it only would have been down to media pressure to get him in, but then we only have 3 centre backs going to the Euros (which is a crazy decision) so maybe he would have as we have a shortage there. I would expect Roy to go with tried and tested 33 year old Jagielka ahead of Morgan.

The other thing is would Morgan be the player he is now without the experience of playing for Jamaica? His busy summer of playing against the likes of Messi, Cavani etc could have been the catalyst for his amazing season, he has also improved massively as a captain, he is a lot more vocal on the pitch that could come from captaining the Reggae Boyz and being a senior figure in that squad.

lets be honest, we all know Wes would never get a call up to England. A Leicester central defender playing for England, Crazy! Woy would probably pick Jones instead of him

Do people really think he wouldn't have selected Wes?

He would have been absolutely nailed on to go to the Euro's after this season, he's been the best CB in the division by a mile, at the minute Godin is probably the only better one in the World.

You just know that if Spurs won the league that Alli, Kane, Walker, Rose, Trippier and Mason would all be in the squad.

We win it and it's only Vardz and Drinky, one of which may not even start because of a crock like Wilshere.

Surprised Albrighton not called up, he does 'behind the scenes' things on the pitch that hasn't been praised or even noticed at times.

Obviously Vardy (though I know Woy can't stand him due to his numb reaction when he scored for England not so long ago) absolutely deserves it as his success gives hope to any young Englishstrikers in the lower leagues that hard work and patience can make you a success eventually no matter what critics say about you and attempt to write you off at first glance.

Not sure on Drinkwater - he's been valuable when playing with Kante but he can lose the ball unnecessary and can let some opposition players loose only for Huth and Morgan to save face.

When was the last time a title winning team didn't have all of their regular starting English players (or even subs) not in the England squad?

Yeah but Woy has trust in his staples and what they have achieved (ie fvck all ever). Bin Hodgson off, make Vardy player/manager

Albrighton's problem is he's a defensive winger in a 4-4-2 or a wing-back in a 3-5-2 though isn't it? And his role is a very unfashionable one in England where people sometimes view certain positions in black and white and think wingers must all be about attacking and skill, only player who's ever really got praise for being a defensive winger in England was Ji-Sung Park and that was only because Fergie kept (rightly) praising him so much for it that the media and the bloggers all started saying how great he was (the same thing happened with Busquets at Barcelona for example who only got praise after Guardiola and Xavi praised the role he was playing in the media).

You do get the feeling Albrighton would be much more recognised by the press etc. if he played in Italy or somewhere where defensive football is traditionally more recognised. It's obvious to see why a traditional Italian manager like Ranieri rates him so highly anyway.

But Hodgson, with his 4-2-3-1 with "wide forwards" is never going to pick him, even if he is quite obviously a better player than Andros Townsend or Jesse Lingard.

Would you have seriously suggested Wes could play for England back in in August? People were suggesting we drop for a little while.

Even before then, Jamacia would have been the sensible option: previously his only realistic option at international football.

And both us and him benefited enormously from his international experience, which he wouldn't have got otherwise.

Wes Morgan being England's best option at CB seems only slightly more believable than a Stockbridge Steelers' forward getting in the England squad.

If Man United had just won the league, all of their English players would have gone, even the fringe players. The fact that Simpson and Albrighton haven't gone but the likes of Delph and Milner have represents everything that is wrong with English national football.

Butland

Simpson Smalling Cahill/Stones Cresswell

Dier

Drinkwater Alli

Barkley

Vardy Kane

That is England's best team based on form this season discounting Butlands injury, even then Forster should be ahead of Hart. There should be room in the squad for Albrighton, he's a better wide option then Milner in my opinion.

This is no great conspiracy, and it is getting a bit tedious to read, Whilst I don't necessarily agree with Roy he is faced with choosing players who play for United, Arsenal, Liverpool even Spurs and Everton or Leicester and West Ham. The difference is players for those clubs have been performing at a high level, Champions league, Europe, top half of the premier league for years, our players haven't. They have also been in and around the England youth set up.

More importantly though, we have won the league for being the best team this season and not for having the best players. You take Morgan out of our side put him alongside Stones and attacking full backs playing with a high line and without 2 midfielders screening them he will not be anywhere near as effective. Same with Simpson ask him to play like Walker or Danny Rose or Albrighton to play like Sterling it just doesn't work.

This is why there are question marks of Drinkwater at International level can he be as effective outside of our 442? He has had one phenomenal season playing to his strengths, long may it continue, but it doesn't make him automatically better than someone who has performed at the top level for years.
