Stadt Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 Gove just doesn't strike me as capable of winning elections. His face is a bit weird too and that never helps.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 So in true Gove style he stabs his old mate and Brexit running partner in the back, the night before he is announcing to run for PM and then announces himself for the job instead. What a guy. hashtaganybodybutGove Why have you written hash tag, rather than just use # ???
Strokes Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 Gove just doesn't strike me as capable of winning elections. His face is a bit weird too and that never helps. Weird face never stopped Blair.

Agree, you want him on your team though, I spoke to an MP a couple of years ago who told me he's the smartest man in the HoC, people from all sides are amazed at his intellect.
Nick Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 Why have you written hash tag, rather than just use # ??? I did it to gain attention Barry. hashtagattentionseeker.

I'm really not amazed at his intellect. He knew nothing about education reform and even less about criminal justice.
leicsmac Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 If Gove is as smart as is made out, then he's a massively calculating sociopath. Which means he probably wouldn't have the PR skill to lead and if the Tories want to win they probably should go for someone else.
Jon the Hat Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 I'm really not amazed at his intellect. He knew nothing about education reform and even less about criminal justice. Nah, he just doesn't give a flying **** about those resistant to change.
Guest MattP Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 I'm really not amazed at his intellect. He knew nothing about education reform and even less about criminal justice. He's a reformer, he wants higher standards, of course the people who he wants to try an achieve those things will be recalcitrant towards him, they should be honest about the reasons why as well, he saw Britain sliding down and down the league tables in terms of academic achievement and tried to reverse it, of course if you touch anything in the public sector these days as a Tory you'll be howled, jeered and moaned out by militant professionals used to having it easy. What's he done wrong with regards to justice?
Stadt Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 Just been reading up on Fox because I've been impressed with his TV appearances and he's certainly got some baggage, he was the MP with the largest over claiming of expenses and the scandal where his mate tagged along to loads of of official trips and was far too involved than he should have been.
Nick Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 Nah, he just doesn't give a flying **** about those resistant to change. I'm not in the least bit resistant to change - quite the opposite in fact. Bringing back examinations for schoolchildren when all the research says it disadvantages girls after years of attempting to level the playing field? Selling off prison contracts to private companies with an appalling success rate in well, every single department in which they are measured and ensuring we have the least qualified people looking after the most vulnerable in our society (especially children)? Do me a favour, the guy will take the cheapest option every time that creates revenue - irrespective of the quality and outcomes - that's not progress, that's idiocy.
fuchsntf Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 This Johnson and Gove switch was always the plan, I seen it coming before the referendum... Conservatives always wanted The T.May and M.Gove to be the competing candidates.... The media obviously will turn it into a Treachorous betrayal....sorry this was also known in the media corners. Johnson would of had no chance against T.May. Forget the other candidates...
leicsmac Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 Nah, he just doesn't give a flying **** about those resistant to change. Exactly. Pursues his own pathway without regard to the thoughts of other people and does what he perceives to be right, no matter the collateral cost. Sociopathy. Of course you could make the argument that he might be right with the action that he's taking/took, but...

Guest Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 Didn't Gove himself say he was not up to the task of leading the party only a short while ago?

Sounds like the man to lead the tories then.
Guest MattP Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 Odds May 4/7 Gove 5/2 Leadsom 12/1 Crabb 25/1 Fox 50/1
Guest Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 Odds May 4/7 Gove 5/2 Leadsom 12/1 Crabb 25/1 Fox 5000/1 It's a sign.
CosbehFox Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 Didn't Gove himself say he was not up to the task of leading the party only a short while ago? Yes willing to sign on that statement in blood was the comment about becoming PM
Babylon Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 Been watching videos of the candidates, seeing as it's a popularity contest here's my view on them (not their policies). Leadsom speaks very well and comes across quite natural... she just has a slightly evil look to her. May comes across well also, and looks slightly less evil. Gove comes across as a total shit bag, never a straight answer even to simple questions... almost like the very definition of what you expect form a politician (that's not a good thing). On to Crabb and Fox.
Izzy Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 I remember a while ago that a fresh faced Cameron was long odds and an outsider to be leader of the Tories. A mate of mine had a bet on him early doors at about 10-1 from memory and won a grand. 25-1 for Crabb might be worth a flutter. You never know...
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 I remember a while ago that a fresh faced Cameron was long odds and an outsider to be leader of the Tories. A mate of mine had a bet on him early doors at about 10-1 from memory and won a grand. 25-1 for Crabb might be worth a flutter. You never know... Crabb doesn't have the same air about him that Cameron did - Crabb is also up against much stronger opposition and the party is in power so has something to lose, unlike than the situation Cameron inherited when the party was in a shambles (OK, like it is now) and had made some pretty damning choices for its past two leaderships. It also didn't hurt Cameron that he had a likeness to Blair who was in power but on the way out. Now if the Conservatives are sensible - they put May in charge because she would almost guarantee them another election win, with an increased majority too - whoever Labour had in charge would find it very difficult to do battle against her (especially as she was officially a remainer so can't be tarnished with any fall out, but on the same hand will be more than happy to lead us out of Europe). And let's face it - with May's growing likeness to Thatcher in some ways, I'm sure they will put her in place (shudder!) Gove on the other hand, would give Labour a chance - there would be enough material against Gove to use at the right times.
