brisfox Posted 26 July 2016 Posted 26 July 2016 Over here in California , waiting for the game on Saturday which takes place in an area of Los Angeles called Carson. Not seen any other City fans yet although the locals are aware we are here. At the airport the border guard asked me why I was visiting and I told him it was to see my "soccer" team play. " You're a Leicester fan? They were great last year ! Loved that story " They weather over here is hot an sunny with a lot of smog due to recent forest fires. The natives are friendly with a very large Mexican/ Hispanic minority. Not sure how many City fans are making the trip but there should be a good crowd as tickets are almost sold out. The team are staying in Santa Monica (on the coast west of LA, this was where Baywatch was filmed in the 1980's). Very nice area but expensive. I'm down in San Diego, much cheaper and to be honest, much nicer. If anybody has any questions, post them and I will do my best to answer.
separator Posted 26 July 2016 Posted 26 July 2016 I thought LA was a bit of a dump tbh but its a few years since I was there. The gaslamp quarter in SD was decent. Remember to cross the border to Tijuana for a day out and cheap beer.
UPinCarolina Posted 26 July 2016 Posted 26 July 2016 If anyone is staying down in San Diego on Friday evening and wants to grab a pint, let me know. Hoping to see some Foxes out and about.
jonthefox Posted 26 July 2016 Posted 26 July 2016 Who would win a fight between captain caveman and Hong Kong phooey.

m4DD0gg Posted 26 July 2016 Posted 26 July 2016 San Diego is like a 4 hour drive from LA. Bit of a trek.

brisfox Posted 27 July 2016 Author Posted 27 July 2016 Day two. Still hot and sunny. The locals appear to be aware that we are here. I was speaking to one yesterday who said that two of his friends were going to the game. I asked him who they supported " Leicester, of course!" Came the reply . News over here is dominated by politics as the Democratic Convention is going on. General con census is that Trump. is a nut and the Clinton is a crook. It's going to come down to who people hate the least. My money would be on a Trump win as Clinton is hated over here like no other politician I have ever seen. Back to football,Vardy is due here real soon. Hope he hasn't worn himself out on honeymoon. Still not seen any other City fans yet. I'll be thinking of you all while I'm at the beach later.

The smog is almost always there even when there are no fires and is from exhaust fumes in the main. It's caused by what's known as an teperature inversion layer over the basin. Hot air from the desert to the East flows in at a higher level than cooler air below that comes off the ocean and so the polluted air cannot escape. If you have time there's a nice road trip from San Diego to Palm Desert (Palms to Pines Highway). Mind you, the temperature in the desert is about 115F in the afternoon right now. Despite that you will be in the cooler mountains until you reach the desert and then drop about 4000 feet to the desert floor.

Yes, there is always a layer of smog over LA, but most of it is from the wildfires at this time of year. Palm Desert is a great place to visit but it is stinking hot at this time of year. Meanwhile, a nice temperate 85f here in San Diego.
