Money on their minds?

Recommended Posts

Call me a cynic, but Schmeichel, Morgan, King and Vardy have recently signed huge new deals. Is it really a coincidence how these players were the worst on the pitch yesterday?

For me the owners have had there pants down by the players/agents after us winning the league. We are reportedly paying some players 100k a week.

I'm all for this, after we as a club are consistently in the top 7 clubs in the table.

We all know that players often play a lot better when there contracts are nearly expiring, and get complacent just after signing a new one.

I personally would have told the players to continue the good form until Christmas, and then if the top performances continue then here are the new contracts.

I just hope that money hasn't once again ruined the day in football.

Half the reason the team spirit was so good last season was because the players were all basically on near enough the same money - now we have a few players on 100k and some on 40k.

I mean there hasn't been a new deal yet for okazaki, playing out of his skin it seems.

Also, signing up wes morgan until he's 35? We've been well and truly had by the agents here.

Chelsea have a policy of 1 year deals for the over 30s, seems sensible to me.

Well I am glad your not running our club.

Sadly, football and player contracts is not as simple as that. The players you mentioned would have left or attracted huge interest ....they are professionals who collectively (14 played yesterday) were not at the level they would expect with a raft of reasons so let's not be ridiculous about one defeat....even if we know it was not the real LCFC that turned up yesterday!

So King and Morgan would have attracted huge interest? Not having it. King didn't even play last season, it's absolutely ludicrous that we are giving him a new 4 year deal on probably 40k a week at least.

Morgan would not have got more money elsewhere. He's 32. There was simply no need for these new deals.

Yes. A really pivotal player for us last season wasn't he. Definitely deserved a new 4 year deal. Here you go kingy, here's a 4 year deal for playing 1 or 2 games. That will make you motivated next season won't it...

Having one bad game does not mean they aren't motivated and I'm not sure why you think comparable wages were 'half the reason the team spirit was so good last year'. Reads like a Sean Dyche press conference.

Perhaps they had Friday on their minds.

Surely the contracts were both a reward for winning the leagues and a statement to the players and fans the owners wanted to keep the team together and why not ? It's the right thing to do.

This season they will be judged on how they perform again I'm sure they know that. Yesterday was a blip Hull were desperate and wanted it more, and well done to them we got out Leicester'd and that will be a lesson learned not to take anyone for granted in this league.

You are making yourself look stupid!

Kingy played in 29 games last season starting 9 in the premier league. Squads/dressing rooms need people like Andy ..he is experienced, reliable and a very good player...I would concur that he is not the answer to our starting midfield but in the squad absolutely!!

Your initial post was ridiculous but you have topped it your follow ups....numpty

Yes fair enough but he was already under contract. Why the new contract? If you think money and contracts has no impact on players performance then I'm afraid you don't really understand the modern game of football...

If rudkin had any sense he would have made these new deals so that they are still motivated.

ie. Pay rise while we are a top 7 side. If we finish below 7th this season then you go back down to original pay. Then next season if we get 7th or above pay rise again. I doubt it though

Trust me I do...more than you will ever know.......the new contract locked in and rewarded a 27 year old midfielder who has been at the club 10 years+, was an instrumental character in the dressing room, stepped in repeatedly last season to perform fantastically, the salary increase was sensible, he could earn more elsewhere and if you ask anyone within the squad last season they would talk glowingly of AK.

As I stated AK should not be playing in a 2 with Drinky which he probably would not have done yesterday had Mrs Mendy not been having their child.

Money does affect players but the ones you listed have new contracts because they are superb pro's.....

Nothing personal and only an observation but I have never liked chilli con carne. Think it's the beans.

we are an ambitious club

we will not keep players on 30k a week when other clubs would be delighted to pay them 50k.  We have no idea exactly how much we are paying these guys on heir new deals. Suspect wes is now on around 60k (seems reasonable for a defender of his age who hits made PFA team of the year).

Andy King would quickly be signed by many lower half prem league clubs and paid 40k per week.

I think Kasper's new deal will be in the region of 70/75k per week.

we had the squad on the same kind of deals two years ago

last year saw inler earning 50k whilst DD was on 30k. Did you notice how poor and peed off Danny was ?

Vardys new new deal in Feb took him to 75k. He was so poor after that. Just seemed not bothered to me!

seems the policy is to reward the squad with pay rises and an attempt to keep them all together rather than buying loads of new guys on big deals and dumping the existing squad.

Spot on.....some of the numbers are a way off but your absolutely right and they are the foundations for the next few years as the club grows....it is quite likely if the expectations of the board can be met that some of these players maybe sold but on our terms not because we are contractually exposed!!

The open poster is so so wrong , but also there is a grain of truth in his point

last we were a team of Hungry misfits and cast offs , a special bond started to develop and of course the goals flowed  ,that hunger is a huge huge driving force , but it's not about just cash it's abut recognition and respect

yesterday hurt , the manager was hurt , the players looked devastated , the owner was shocked

yesterday was NEEDED , we lost focus and we lost our edge , which is normal FFS we just won the fecking league ! So cut everyone a bit of slack

So let's all calm the FECK down and start the positive vibe next weekend. The League starts against Arsenal !

We march on together

champions of England , we should know what we are !

Last season was amazing and they should be rewarded but it seemed the celebrations went on for too long.

Open top bus parade after open top bus parade, trips to Thailand, the money spinning champions cup.

Those silly BMW's were a bit bemusing as well considering they already got those Mercedes mini vans at the end of the season.

It's simple psychology really, you spoil your kids and they become entitled, whingeing little brats.

that was back in May lol . They're well entitled to celebrate then. We went to Thailand in May 2015 as well...

It's the Champions Cup which has royally fvcked us over.

They won us the premier league so deserved more money. Pretty sure they weren't exactly skint anyway so not sure how going from being rich to more rich is suddenly going to turn them into bad players.

We lost a world class player in Kante that's all and any team would struggle to replace him. If Mendy is anywhere near as good as Kante then we would have won yesterday had he played.

Huth is also key to how we defend, another big loss. Away from home against a team who don't have a bad 1st 11.
