KingKante Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 Before we had the freak of nature in Kante we had to use a different system. This was Nigel's relegation escaping 3-5-2 which worked wonders in the last 9 games. It was attacking, entertaining and solid. With the players bought it I can't help but think we would suit that system to a T. Being as 4-4-2 without Kante just doesn't work....
cityfanlee23 Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 I agree, Mahrez has massively improved his work rate tracking back aswell. Ranieri has also used 3-5-2 all over europe, he knows the system, makes you wonder whether he thinks it can work in this league though, much has changes since survival and everyone is much stronger than they were 2 years ago.
TheMightySystem Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 Do we really need 15 threads which all talk about the same thing?
Fox92 Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 Only problem with that is we've too many attackers... Slimani, Vardy, Musa, Okazaki, Gray, Albrighton, Mahrez, Kapuska... Where are they fitting in?

lcfcben76 Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 Can definitely see it, . Kasper Huth Morgan Hernandez . Mendy/amartey drinky albrighton Mahrez. Chilwell/fuchs Slimani Vardy

We we only have one central midfielder that is good enough (Mendy aside due to injury - but the jury is out with him also maybe), plus we now don't have s right back. I am very pro the Thais and Ranieri, however these areas have been badly overlooked. I understand NZonzi backed out at the last minute and the strange 'Silva matter' but the season finished in May not August 30th. There was ample time to get players in - even after Kante left, and we are no doubt now on the back foot, from what should have been a position of strength.

I don't understand why, with all the games we have this season, we've got rid of both right full backs in De Laet and Moore. Simpson is now injured so we've got a center back at full back. The only other options are Wasyl (another aging center back) and Benny (is he registered??) ... Seriously don't know why we haven't invested in the defence.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 I think both formations 4-3-3 and 3-5-2, could give Albrighton the chance to return to RM, with Mahrez trialling out a more central role. Albrighton was excellent for us when he came into the right wide position and it would mean he wouldn't have to keep checking back inside. The second side to it though, Fuchs and Albrighton are very good down that left side having formed an understanding for a while now. But, I still can't help but think Albirghton could be even more effective at RM.
BigWesMorgan Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 Schmeichel Hernandez Huth Morgan Mahrez Mendy Drinkwater Amartey Albrighton Slimani Vardy Don't like 3-5-2 but that's actually pure filth
lcfcben76 Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 It's a formation which I think works really well if you get it right, I reckon we could pull it off. Would love to see chilwell in a left wing back position think it would really benefit him and he would provide good attacking threat and crosses too
Bluetintedspecs Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 I'm going to start a thread titled Kneejerk; then this and the other 300 that have appeared since yesterday can be amalgamated in one large negative shitstorm.

Mahrez won't defend on that side. If anything it needs to be Albrighton there and Mahrez more central.

It wasn't the result - I can accept losing - but again the performance was shite. I'll say when we are good, I'll say when we are bad.
ian_marshall Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 I'd like to see us try a 4-2-3-1, with Drinky and Mendy sat in front of the back 4, Kingy or Okazaki sat in front of the central midfield 2, and then depending on the opposition, if we want an attacking emphasis Mahrez right, Gray left, or if we need to protect the full backs Albrighton right, Schlupp left.

Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 One thing I definitely think is that Albrighton was better on the right under Np than he has been on the left. He does a reasonable job on left but is only there to accommodate Mahrez on the right really. He made so many more chances from the right and he really could get decent crosses in rather than predictably having to turn on to his right foot when playing on the left. Think he'll benefit from going back on the right and also so will likes of Slimani in the air
Izzy Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 "Systems and formations win you nothing. Players win you games" Said Alex Ferguson, Brian Clough and all great Managers worth their salt over the years (including our own Nigel Pearson in April '15) We can talk about it all day and night on here, but nobody knows better than the Don.

We were diabolic yesterday, they deserve all the criticism for such a poor performance.
Wymsey Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 Like Kante, Pearson has gone and can't dwell on missing him. Ranieri is not daft but I think he's trying to accommodate certain players in midfield (the unfixed area) more than anything else. It may take some time.

dylanlegend Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 We certainly have the players for it, I also think the 4-2-3-1 would suit us with the players we have maybe away from home: Kasper Simpson Morgan Huth Fuchs Drinkwater Mendy Musa Mahrez Schlupp Vardy
