Is the stadium tour any good?

Recommended Posts

Thinking of taking my 8 year old - 300 mile round trip so want to know if it's up to much!

Has anyone done it, and if so how was it?

Cheers

Did it years ago, was pretty good. Not sure it's worth a 300 mile round trip though.

That said it might be better now (Not that much can change though really), I'm tempted to do it again as presumably you'll be able to see the PL trophy?

I had one in May, it was decent but your limited to what you can do. You can't step on the pitch but you can stand pitch side and sit in Ranieris seat etc..

Did it the other day. Is interesting. Decent if you're in the city for something to do. About an hour or an hour and half depending on how many people. Not worth a long trip for.

I have a voucher for a stadium tour - do you get to see the PL trophy?

I'd presume so. I went on one a few months back before we won the league, and got to see the Championship trophy.

I recently went on a stadium tour at Old Trafford (Sorry, i was passing) and had to say it was a good experience. I have been on a stadium tour at Leicester a few years ago and from what i remember it was good fun. You go into the home changing rooms and walk down the tunnel etc and can get some good photographs to remember it by. I can't see why you wouldn't be able to see the PL Trophy however given football now days, it will probably be at extra cost!!

Doing the tour in November. Think we did it when the stadium first opened so it must have changed a vast amount since then. Can't wait for it really.

Also did Old Trafford as well. Phenomenal stadium. The museum is really good as well.

I think the thing about Old Trafford is, you really do not need to be a Manchester United fan to be able to thoroughly enjoy and appreciate what this stadium has to offer. I must agree the museum is insane and the tour itself was very relaxed and informative.

I particularly enjoyed walking down the tunnel with the match day sound affects playing, true goose bump moment. :P

I think I did one back in around 2008 or 2009. Want to do it again for sure.

Went on this the other week. Didn't get to see the PL trophy, just a replica of the championship trophy.

Wouldnt make a special trip that far, you see a exec box, changing rooms, media room, tunnel, post match interview areas, and dugouts. There's bits and bobs around as you walk about, memorabilia etc. It was all a bit rushed to be honest.

I took my nephew to Anfield (he made a poor life choice to support Liverpool and at 12 years old now has loads of Leicester fans taking the piss out of him at school). We did the tour in the morning and then watched an FA Cup game in the afternoon.

The tour was really good actually. The guide was a classic "cheeky scouser". I told him I was a Leicester fan and he said he'd not forgiven us for selling them Heskey!

The most interesting bit was in the old main stand which housed the dressing rooms which are suprisingly basic (I guess they are not in the new stand). He said that the Liverpool team meet at Melwood on a match day and they have all the luxuries you would expect up there, but when they arrive at Anfield they are "at work" and so no fancy stuff. The home dressing room is soundproofed but the away one isn't and you can hear all the noise from the stand above.

He also said that when Shankly first arrived at the club, he had the caretaker have the home dressing room door cut down and an infill panel put in above it. This was the create the effect of the Liverpool players "duck" under it as the emerged opposite the away room, creating the impression to the visitors that Liverpool players were massive!

Got to walk down the tunnel and you could touch the "This Is Anfield" sign (if you wanted to), sit in the dugout and on the Kop. Was only about £15 each so well worth it.

In actual fact we were looked after really well by all the staff at Liverpool.

If you're driving 300 miles make sure you come soon and see the new walk city exhibition too whilst you're here

I do the 300 mile trip for most home games - but I think the tour is something I'd like to do with my lad. He's not been to a game yet and he is a bit curious as to why his dad is a Leicester supporter! Would be nice if the stadium tour gave him the wow factor!

the tour was at about 11.00am so afterwards me and my mate just hung about in the bar above the players entrance, snuck into a corporate do and got a full free meal with numerous pints included. Met Steve Walsh and Milan Mandaric also at this fixture.

I did the Anfield tour with my lad ( Liverpool were his "premier league team", oh how times change).  5 European cups on display is a tad impressive.

I've booked for my boy in Nov. Would like him to see what it looks like on a non matchday.

I've been in most parts having worked at the club and been on a corporate before.

But hope he enjoys it.

For the op. If you make the trip for home games. Would it be worth looking online if they do it the day after or before a home game and just book to do it then and staying over?

Yeah, it was really good actually.

It kind of worked like this - I promised to take him to a Liverpool game for his 10th birthday but didn't reckon on how hard it would be to get tickets so when they drew Oldham at home in the FA Cup, I thought I'd try that but it was still difficult without being a member (familiar story).

In the end, they offered me hospitality tickets for £75 each which included the tour and museum  and then we could go into the suite in the Centenary Stand at 12.00 and eat as much as we liked - the food was pretty good - plenty of options for adults and kids. Then watch the game (famous Anfield atmosphere distinctly underwhelming but then I suppose a 3rd Round FA Cup tie against Oldham is never going to be all that).

Had hald an hour after the game back in the bar chatting up the "hostesses" before driving back.

(I realise we are distinctly off topic here)
