'Pearson who took us from the third tier to staying up in the top flight and within a year of winning the title' Pearson? 'Pearson who bought nine of the eleven regular starters (for a third of the cost of Ranieri's signings) in our title-winning line-up and began the search for Kante' Pearson? 'Pearson who installed the scouting network and backroom staff which led us to the title' Pearson? 'Pearson who began the run of good form which led to us winning the title' Pearson? No, he didn't have anything to do with us winning the title, clearly.

The title was Ranieri's. The set up was clearly one that he inherited. I don't think people should be calling for Ranieri's head and I have no idea whether Pearson would be doing better than Ranieri now, but that comment is pure insanity. I can't believe any semi-serious Leicester fan could hold such an opinion. Obviously people are likely to bang on about how good Pearson was, because he was. And they're even more likely to bang on about it when people say things like that, which is a bit like saying any other club legend - Gillies, O'Neill, or even Lineker, Izzet, Cross, Banks - wasn't up to much. People will naturally point out how wrong you are.

Why not consider whether what you're saying has any grounding in reality before you actually say it?

Dear oh bloody dear.  Get over it he is long gone.  Pearson one dimensional, tactically naive, didn't win us the premier league Ranieri did.  Shakespeare has gone too.  Pearson didn't rip up any trees at Derby did he.  The great escape didn't come about because of Pearson it took a players meeting to sort it out Pearson wasn't involved.

Ranieri is a bloody good manager and he will get it right.   Some of you, need to get over Pearson like O'Neal he has come and gone.

Well thank you for correcting me. It's a bit eyebrow-raising to be corrected by someone who thinks Craig Shakespeare has gone and who doesn't know how to spell 'O'Neill', but I'll live with it.

You do, on the other hand, appear to know a great deal about who was doing what during the 'Great Escape'. In fact you seem to know more than any of the people who were actually there, and spoke about it publicly. It's astounding how a few desperate people hang on to some myth about Pearson being sidelined at the end of his time at the club, in spite of there being literally no evidence for it having happened. I'm aware that a few of you hang onto this, but there's nothing whatsoever to suggest that it's anything other than total rubbish.

As I pointed out in my message, I was responding to someone who said that Pearson had nothing to do with our success, and if people come out with utter tripe like that then other Leicester fans will have to point out how it's wrong. Just like if you said Gordon Banks was actually ****, or Gary Lineker was a traitor, or Martin O'Neill was a waste of your time and mine.

I didn't come into this wanting to rear the ghost of Big Nige, so if you're annoyed by this you should divert your anger to those that did, rather than those who replied to those that did. But obviously the guy was pretty damn good. If you're a City fan, you'll know this.

A shit performance and suddenly it turns into Ranieri versus Pearson wtflol

Both have been absolutely fantastic for us in different eras of the club. Pointless comparing them, bizarre.

Personally I don't think there's any point in comparing them. Ranieri is the genius now, and he's the guy who has to roll his sleeves up and sort this out now.

And I don't think Nige could roll back into town and necessarily work things out any better than Ranieri, which was what some people thought. So long as our defence of Ranieri doesn't descend into a condemnation or 'disremembrance' of Pearson, I've got nothing in particular to say about the guy.

I'm just so fed up of reading excuses.

I have got to seriously question the ambition of some people on here. There was a post a few weeks ago from someone on this place that was absolutely spot on - what we did was incredible last year, and in doing that, we fashioned ourselves a unique opportunity to sustain ourselves as a regular European contender. We picked up the European riches with a budget of a side expected to come in the bottom half. We picked up a reputation as being a hard-working, odds-defying side who players would like to play for. We won the bastard league.

So why on earth do people defend this complete and utter mis-management?

I'm not saying just Ranieri here, it's a collective effort. Our summer looks more and more shambolic with each passing week.

We have failed to even attempt to replace quite possibly the best player we've ever had. The most crucial player in our best ever season, gone for the same fee as Moussa Sissoko, not replaced by anybody. Treat Mendy as Inler's replacement because that's what he is.

We have overloaded the squad with forwards and wingers, yet cannot even experiment with a different formation that patches up the midfield because we don't actually have the players on board - not even a case of them being good enough, we don't actually have enough players to commit to playing 4-3-3. That's an absolute embarrassment.

You lot can say "this is the reality of being a Leicester fan", and yes, it has been, but it didn't have to be. We took the ultimate stride to changing upping our level, and if anything I think we actually look a poorer team than we did in 2014/15. Forget last year, you're not replicating a side with an extraordinary player like Kante in it, but to not even be as good as that team? Just how?

Watching MOTD worried me tonight. Even shit like Sunderland & Swansea look more dangerous going forward we do.

We can't defend, we can't attack, we can't keep the ball.

This is a team that won the league last year.

It's beyond me. It really is.

Great post, its hard to really second guess the thinking behind the signings. But the squad is very unbalanced, and surprisingly one dimensional.

Its amazing a title winning team can have such little confidence to pass the ball too

This is what I was woried about when I saw people would be happy with playing bad but getting results. Yes for a few games its fine but when you start losing games and can't up your performance thats when moral starts to take a hit and form becomes hard to break. I can only think of one game this year we played well in for the full 90 and that was Burnley.

Mahrez is close to regaining form, just needs to pass or cross more as his dribbling for the most part is back to last year standards.

Vardy can't do much because of no service although I would love to see Slimani play as the main striker against Brugge and Vardy sitting behind him doing the Okazaki running that got him so much praise last year.

Amartey I thought had a good game, his passing was better and more positive, wasn't caught on the ball as much if at all. He is reacting quicker when defending which shows he is improving. I would keep him in the team as he is no worse then King and he can still improve and surpass King.

Drinkwater needs a rest as he is making mistakes now and losing confidence, I would give Barnes a shot to reward him for his performances at U23 level.

Morgan or Huth out and Hernandez in at CB.

Gray and Kapustka in at LW or CAM, might as well see what both of them can do against Brugge.

Spot on.

To not even attempt to replace Kante was nothing short of ridiculous.

As you say watching some of the other poorer teams atleast when they attack they look dangerous or create opportunities from open play & that's what concerns me most. In the last 3/4 matches we have barely created any!

Where do I start?

We had won the PL, everyone was on a high and progress and PL sustainability were surely inevitable and certainly achievable. But mistakes were already being made

An awful pre-season that we were obviously bound by rules to participate in, but that god awful tournament didn't help fitness levels one bit

Now Kantè leaving wasn't a mistake but not getting replacements in was. Kantè himself may have been irreplaceable but our back up certainly should've been improved! Yes we signed Mendy, but Mendy's crocked and has been most of the season, oh and i believe Mendy was an Inler replacement anyway. So that left us basically with a player who we have no clue if he truly is a midfielder and even PL able (Amartey) and King who does his best but has one decent game then goes missing the next (same could be said for most so far this season though) and Drinkwater who has carried the team so much even his performances are starting to suffer! Why did we fail so bad in this department?

We signed wingers and strikers, Musa looks outta his depth at times then looks like he could make it. Oh and Kaputska, yeah you know that Polish guy who plays most games for a decent Poland team but can't even get on the bench for us! Slimani looks like a decent signing though

Our defence wasn't improved either, Hernandez looks very iffy. These are all Ranieri signings, so he's basically got 1 right in Slimani and the rest the jury is out and Mendy well he's just out full stop!

Contracts were stupidly upped and we were basically held to ransom. I remember an interview with Steve Walsh after the Everton win saying we wanted no billy big bollocks players, well that kinda died when all these contracts were upped! Oh and then Walsh left lol

I think I'd have rather let these players go then risk what we are seeing now! Saying that I'm not so sure I'd have been confident in Ranieri getting in replacements! If Walsh would've stayed then maybe so. Southampton have a policy but they have a good scouting network, god knows if we do anymore!

Intensity levels have dropped, players attitudes to games have dropped, Ranieri has made so many mistakes it's criminal! He played a deadly game in basically prioritising the UCL, it set the rot for the PL and that rot is now sinking into all competitions!

We honestly have only played decent in one of our games in the UCL and that was Brugge. The rest of the games have been a mixed bag of ok and total shite

Ranieri I'm afraid is saying all the wrong things right now, I pray he's only saying them things to the press and saying the opposite to the players because if he's actually saying he's proud of performances like today to the players then that's unbelievable and no wonder we are seeing nothing from them

Most of our games have basically been mirror images of each other! Hardly look like scoring, being all over the place, no intensity, no desire, so many players going walk about, no plan, no clue!

The big issue is sorting this whole mess out! This rot could be terminal! People can't make up excuses anymore, we look poor, we look relegation material and this rot somehow needs to be cleaned up and if Ranieri keeps this up then I'm honestly not sure if he's gonna be the right man to sort it out

We were all worried about him and he proved us wrong but right now he's starting to prove us right and we are kinda seeing the Ranieri we thought we would see. I am eternally greatful to him, he's a top bloke but I deal with now and right now it's not good enough

No the dear oh dear statement must be put on you. Pearson got us to where we were, kept us in the prem and the momentum of his great escape is what lead to last seasons crazy run of form (He was also at the players meeting, he called it ). I'm not saying Claudio didn't play his part, because his control of the media and wooing of the players did boost morale even higher than before and his switching of players when required, worked well. But if there is anyone who is looking one dimensional right now, it is the king tinkering, who has just tinkered too much again and upset the apple cart. Don't forget Claudio also admitted that he didn't rate Kante, as he thought he would be too weak and small for the Prem. I bet he wishes he had him now though.

Pearson's time at Derby should not be used as a measure of success. He was given next to no time and the club is a shambles. The owner spied on his personal life with a drone for goodness sake.

The players are literally just shattered mentally after such a long season last year of playing well above themselves and are on top of that unfit after an abismal pre season. All these little things are down to the manager to get right and fix, and this time Claudio has got it all wrong. I'm really starting to doubt he has it in him to challenge these players and get them back to the required mentallity to compete where we want to be. Saying that they showed spirit when all they did was huff and puff is worrying for me. Pearson wouldn't have them conceeding this many goals, we've conceeded more this season than in our great escape season, and I think I'm right in saying we also have less points than at this point in that season too. I'm the reverand optimist, but even I'm worried.

We are on a run that means relegation is almost a certainty.....until the beginning of April when we will win the last 6 out of 8 games and survive. Then this forum will be full of away reference beggars again, as we win the league in 2017/18. If you missed out last time put your money on around mid-March. It's never dull being a Leicester fan, and we should count our blessings we ain't from Stoke.

Next we'll be having people demanding Cambiasso returns to play alongside Amartey.

With a third of the season gone and Claudio looking a bit clueless, people are starting to realise that it might have been Pearson and his back room staff's influence that played a huge part after all.

To be honest losing Walsh (who is a scout but also a bloody awesome coach and man manager) is a huge reason for this season as well.

Sorry but the highlighted comment is nonsense. Walsh was very much a part of the back room team for the majority of the summer signings so to imply that these were all Ranieri signings is incorrect.

Only Kaputska and Slimani were signed after Walsh left, Kaputska less than two weeks after so Walsh must have been involved in that transfer when you factor in negotiations. Considering Walsh was heavily embedded within the backroom team when we signed Amartey, bid for Musa in January, and had signed a pre contractual agreement with Hernandez long before Everton came along, I think it's fair to say he certainly had input into these signings.

Furthermore, Walsh often talked about the club carrying out due diligence on new signings for 12-18 months before commencing talks with any player. The club has policy's and processes for bringing in new player's with numerous parties involved in player acquisition so let's not pretend that Claudio went rogue and these guys just suddenly rocked up to training one day.

Everybody talks about Walsh's influence on signings yet no one ever mentions Rob Mackenzie or Ben Wigglesworth. Could it be that Walsh was more reliant on their input in identifying top talent than we were led to believe?

But one could easily question the signing of Slimani. Big money, poor attitude and him and Vardy arguing across the pitch. Some players can be poisoning to the team. Especially when the success of the team relies so heavily on squad morale.

Anyway Kaputska was one for the future, Gray looks promising and Hernandez and had some decent performances in the champs league. Amartey is still young and has a lot to learn, he's been chucked in at the deep end which has been unhelpful to his development in my opinion. Especially when we have looked better with King in the side. Musa has been played on the wing when he is striker, more interesting man management.

I do like Claudio but he has made some pretty monumental mistakes this season. From a poor pre season to strange choices in terms of player selection. Musa on the wing, Amartey over King, dropping Simpson (when he's playing well), playing a half fit drinky, Schmeichel with a hernia.

It's all been a bit shambolic to be honest. I'm not saying he is a poor manager, but his history of jobs does suggest he has a poor season after success the season before. Man management an issue?

I agree with your second point, we do indeed have some promising players that I'm sure with time will prove to be fantastic signings.

However, I personally wouldn't say Slimani has been a bad signing having scored a goal every other game, nor would I say that there seems to be question marks over his attitude. Admittedly I do think we could have done with strengthening in other areas, and I also don't think we've yet to find a system that successfully incorporates both Vardy and Slimani, but that in itself shouldn't be a reason to question the signing of Slimani as it was becoming increasingly obvious that we needed to add another source of goals as we were overly reliant on Vardy and Mahrez.
