Second half he improved and made some decent challenges and passed the ball ok. Still not sure what type of midfielder he is, as he definitely didn't offer anything in attack and made no runs to think of, which I think we desperately need in our midfield - Someone who can pick the ball up and drive forward, as opposed to always playing the short sideways or backwards pass, which is what we had with the 3 CM's today. Would like to see him get a full game against Everton in the Cup and hopefully see him try to have more of an impact on the game. I think he'll be a very good signing once he's up to speed. Do remember one incident when he made a tackle, got up and ran with the ball sucking in defenders, then played a nice through ball. I think once he's match fit we'll see more of this. The problem is unless Ndidi comes and is an absolute revelation, I still think we'll need 3 in CM to get the best out of him.
funkyrobot Posted 2 January 2017 Posted 2 January 2017 I thought he was bang average again today. I'm really hoping it's a lack of match practice.
coolhandfox Posted 2 January 2017 Posted 2 January 2017 On he's showing so far, provides nothing King and Amartey can't, seems another waste of money. Hopefully he can prove me wrong!
Marshall Cockney Fox Posted 2 January 2017 Posted 2 January 2017 He looks likely to be a deep lying centre mid who will spray passes about and break up attacks a bit. He certainly doesn't look mobile so isn't an attacking mid. Currently I'd say our centre mid players are unbalanced with none of them likely to get forward and score anything.

sdb Posted 2 January 2017 Posted 2 January 2017 Grew into the game. Not sure he was fully comfortable with the pace of the game to start.

Marshall Cockney Fox Posted 2 January 2017 Posted 2 January 2017 The holy trinity was Lennon, Izzet and Savage. All offered something different and complimented each other. Izzet being the forward/attack minded one. Today's trinity looked liked they'd all read the same job description. A pretty poor person spec at that!!!

Marshall Cockney Fox Posted 2 January 2017 Posted 2 January 2017 Do people remember how Lennon never went to ground, he just manoeuvred players off the ball. In a way Kante was our new Lennon. Who will be the new Kante.

Chico1958 Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 2nd Jan 2017............................... There you go, he's back And by the way, I thought he did OK
Monsell1976 Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 Just looked short of games, have every confidence when he's match fit, that he will be an upgrade on king, and give amartey time to grow, as amartey has been thrown in at the deep end, and yes been inconsistent, but that's his age

Guest CityFan 06 Posted 7 January 2017 Posted 7 January 2017 I've been optimistic about him since he signed for us. He's come into the side and done really well. Tidy, covers ground and sits in front of the defence nicely. With time we may start seeing his distribution as well, which is an asset of his. I think he will be a top option for us. He's been part of the reason why we have shored up defensively.

I was talk about the type of player his is i.e. a defensive midfielder, both King and Amartey can play that role, we seem to be collect that's sort of player! We need players who are more balanced in my opinion, Kante could put a foot in but could also run with the ball and pass it. I just feel our squad isn't very balance in the centre of the park, if Drinkwater doesn't play, we don't have another playmaker. As I stated hopefully he prove me wrong!
Slim Dog Posted 7 January 2017 Posted 7 January 2017 Yeah, but Mendy's better than King and Amartey. If anything, King would play further forward if he had the choice. Also, Mendy might not sprint up the pitch but his passing is very good.
